MKP tried to do a tank+marine attack on Xel'Naga and he lost horribly because it has a serious weakness. If you do a one-rax into tanks, you can get crushed by a smart 4-gate. It's not even possible to defend on a map with a wide-open choke like Xel'Naga. You need a very particular map, which is why MVP used it when he did - tiny choke, easily defensible with his amazing micro. It was a build very carefully tailored to the map on which he used it, and it was as effective as it was because Alicia's greedy late detection crippled his econ and delayed his HT so badly that MVP was already sieged at his nat by the time he could storm. Suppose it's a map that doesn't have a tiny choke at the nat. You delay the FE until you have tanks and siege mode out. But now you don't have enough gas for ravens in decent time, and you NEED a raven on any map where the protoss can get a pylon's radii into your main (that's pretty much all of them) or you'll lose to DTs. They don't need a stargate, since they have hallucination. You're also precluding the possibility of tanks and cloak banshees, so you can't put any pressure on P if he skips detection. Now that's all assuming he doesn't go for some sort of starport play, which will mess up your tank builds very badly with proper micro. Phoenixes can lift them, or void rays can hold you in your base and force you to build vikings, allowing him to aggressively expand and start massing up HTs. That's another meta-game consideration you have to make. So try to look at those type of factors before reducing it to something as simplistic as "no tanks = lose, tanks = win." | ||
