Invitationals generally draw a stronger player pool because there is no sort of 'application process' where players who are not as strong try to push forward reasons why they should be picked. FXO just picks strong players based on results.
Not to say anything negative about NASL-- Their way of doing their tournament series is just different. It brings spectator-favourites instead, and gives lesser-known players a chance to prove themselves.

I think many people would wholeheartedly agree with that. On the other hand, spectator favorites, however, would usually include many of the strongest players as well with some sort of backstory - I feel that stylistic players like MKP (micro king + cute stylish kid), TheSTC (strong hellion/biomech play + he's in the army), MC (timing-push god + extremely cocky and confident), Jinro (mech king + doing so well in the GSL/cool personality), and IdrA (extreme macro + some hilarious BM) are some of the most popular right now. I think it's actually rare that less prestigious players are spectator favorites, with the exception of players like Goody, Kiwikaki, qxc, or Catz, but they are also some of the most well known players.
I think the only top players who perhaps aren't spectator favorites would be players like NesTea and Mvp, where they have relatively "bland" personalities, and have ridiculously solid and robust playstyles that are not flashy in any way. I guess it's why Bisu has more fans than Flash, even though Flash is pretty much universally considered to be the better overall player. I'm a Flash/JD and just overall skill-level fanboy, which is why I'll most likely be paying much more attention to tournaments like the GSL and FXOpen, rather than the NASL. Then again, I do hope the NASL can bring in some of the top level Koreans.
Enough of that though...this tournament is looking to be absolutely AMAZING. Between this, the GSL Finals + Up/down matches, TSL, and the GSL World Championship...man, the upcoming month is going to be ridiculous.

Both formats have their place and both will most certainly be incredible

Guys please pay attention to the time and dates of the qualifiers, I have a feeling alot of people are going to be upset that they 'missed' this...
|
Also please make sure that if you play in the qualifier you are able to play in the main tournament as well!

I just wanted to say Kudos to FXO for having multilingual casts. That's a grade A move and gets a lot of respect for me.
Actually, most of the things I see coming from FXO has been really good and I like the directions you guys are going.
