Group Stage Details (NOW CONCLUDED)

How to read the fixtures:
+ Show Spoiler +
Within your group you are assigned a number. For example, if I were:
6. Brockemon
In the first matchup I see that it is 5v6. Hence, I'm facing the 5th player in my group, in this case it would be
5. Malik on Lost Temple on the 10th March

FAQ:
I can't make the scheduled time. What should I do?

These match schedulings are flexible. However, it is up to you to organise an alternate time with your opponent.

I can't seem to contact my opponent. Should I declare a forfeit?
If your opponent is uncontactable try to give them a couple of days leeway to reschedule before declaring a forfeit.

What Best of X are the group stages?
Matches in the group stages are best of one. It is 1 point for a win, 0 for a loss and draws should be replayed. However the match can be played to a best of X if both players agree to it.

Is there chat channel I can sit in while waiting for my opponent?
The USYD chat channel on SEA will serve as a temporary lobby. Chat with other players, arrange practice matches etc.

Do we really have to play on SEA?
Yes the tournament is officially taking place on SEA, just to make it constant. Not everyone has a NA character. If you and your opponent both agree to play on NA that's fine too.

Why don't my points add up to the actual total I've earned?
If you do not report your results you will not get points. If you believe we have miscounted your points please e-mail us. It's difficult to keep track of everyone's results. Miscounts will be inevitable.

I'm a bronze player and I keep getting matched up against diamonds. WHY IS THIS TOURNAMENT SO IMBA?!?!!
Every group has at least 3 diamonds. This is to ensure a high calibre of players in the elimination rounds. That being said, the rest of your group is sub-diamond. Additionally, in each group there are at least 2 players of the lowest league. This means you will at least play one person of a similar skill as you even if you're the lowest rated in the group If you play in a tournament you have to expect to run into players stronger than you are. We might organise something for the gold and below players to do after the group stages.

How do I submit my results?
Please send your results to usyd.starsoc@gmail.com and include your replay if you can. If you feel it's epic enough to be commentated please include the keyword COMMENTATE in the subject line. Inside the e-mail please provide this information

Ah I knew I forgot something.

All stages will be online except the finals if we can get a venue going.
Later rounds will be live and casted.

Copypasted from the society thread:

+ Show Spoiler +
You must be a student at USYD and/or an Access card holder. For this you get free entry into our tournament ($3) and subsidised prices at our lan events which happen every couple of weeks. If you go to even one lan, you will earn back the cost of joining the society in the first place.
How to join:
Send $5 to the paypal account brian.ng90@gmail.com
In addition send me a PM or e-mail usyd.starsoc@gmail.com in the following format:
Full Name:
Access ID: (ie the last 6 numbers of your barcode)
E-mail:

On the other hand if you are neither a student at USYD nor an Access card holder, we can add you to the mailing list regardless and you can still join our tournament for $3. For details on registration to the tournament open the relevant spoiler and head to the thread.

I do a combined degree of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Architecture is said to be second to Med's workload and engineering on top means I have no time for anything else. Uni is now my wife for the next 14 weeks

Just send it to the usual usyd.starsoc@gmail.com.

Registrations are now closed and the tournament is capped at 64 players. GL HF to everyone and remember it is up to you to reschedule your match time if it is not convenient for either player.

Lol. Dream on. I did 4 years of Med and still kept up a healthy WoW raiding schedule for half of them. Even amidst 7pm-7am shift placements. Even with my graduate friends, architecture is nothing vs the likes of a combined Law degree, or aeronautics. This tournament is for amateurs to play and network as part of a society. I haven't played a 1v1 in 1-2 months but still retain a Diamond. I'll compete despite the fact I'll probably get my ass kicked.

If you can't manage your time, that's your business, but don't call out others' degrees.

I have some contacts in Hong Kong .

Other than that I'm pretty sure you can find it at auspcmarket if you're looking for an Aussie retailer.

So, now that group stages have been finished for a while, are there vods available for the matches ro16 onwards? You mentioned in O'week that someone might be casting them live. What happened to that?

And filcos are so nice to type with, feels even better for typing up a document!

Eh I have access though I probably won't be playing in the tourney (UNI STARTING. Y U ALL HAVE TIME TO PLAY? ARTS STUDENTS? FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU - Don't mind me, my workload is insane...). Anyways, seeing as the society probably get money for my access card, I'll message you my card number.

What do you even do... I do med science...

I do a combined degree of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Architecture is said to be second to Med's workload and engineering on top means I have no time for anything else. Uni is now my wife for the next 14 weeks

Lol.

Eh, IDK but everyone in my course is working hard every day of the week. I don't really know many other people that get worried on friday afternoon about work due on monday

That's pretty much everyone at uni except arts students.

Hey everyone

In case you didn't get this e-mail please reply if you're interested.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Hello fellow Dota Soccers!

After weeks of exciting battles, the SCII Tournament is finally wrapping up! Thanks to everyone who got involved and I'm sure you will all join me in congratulating to our semi finalists:

- Jared Krensel, Zerg (aLtPiG)
- Henry Feng, Protoss (LAGBreaker)
- Brock White, Terran (Brockemon)
- Sami Kilani, Zerg (Rampager)

But of course, the excitement isn't yet over! Semi-finals are coming up in the very near future and after that there will, of course, only be two... which means it's FINALS TIME. We are planning something a little special for the Final, if enough people are interested. We are going to try and get a venue at University with the game being projected on large screen and shoutcast live. The event will most likely be sometime during the Easter break.

So please RSVP to this email if you would be interested in coming along to see two of Sydney's best SCII players duke it out! If we get enough emails we will start organising straight away!

Kind Regards,

Jerome

Secretary, University of Sydney DotA Society

Yeh sorry about this. I actually have no control over how the finals occur because I'm not actually a society executive, despite what most people may think.

The actual executives have told me they have been too busy to actually organise anything. All I can say is please be patient. Hopefully things will get going soon!

Well it looks like this thing kinda died. It's a pity too, the tournament was going really well up until the RO4.

Thanks for the patience guys.

The current plan is to have the finals as a cast instead of live because at least one finalist can't make the day. However we're trying to get the 3rd and 4th place matches will be played at a live event, hopefully that we will be hosting in the holidays. We're speaking with SUITS (Sydney University IT Society) to get it going.
