Ladies and Gentlemen, this event promises to be quite the starter to the 2011 year. We'll be slowly revealing the list of participants as the event approaches in this thread and I promise you that you will all be very excited to see what this invitational tournament has in store for us all to start off our new year.
As for the remaining 10 spots that aren't confirmed? You'll all see what we have in store for those as we get closer to the grand finale.
|
looks good will be watching
|
We're excited to be hosting it for Justin.tv! Good luck to everyone who participates.
|
Just a little taste as the players start rolling in... but the thread has been updated with the names of the first 5 invited players! And what a nice mix we've already started to have from all three races. Hope you all are already excited!
|
Is this really going down on a Thursday?
|
Yes it is... and as you'll see the players we have confirmed you'll start to understand why as well. Got a very good response from the Thursday time as it didn't conflict with the zillions of other tours out there.
|
But a lot of great players make it even worse... as I will miss out on some awesome games.
Having great tournaments like this one happening during the week due to other great tournaments on the weekend is probably nothing someone should complain about though.
|
|
Go Select. Show them what you've learned in Korea!
|
The good news about this particular event is that if all goes well (which we are hoping it will) is that our sponsor Justin.tv will most likely allow us to turn this into a more common event so we can continue to bring you lots of high quality coverage.
So consider this particular event a bit of a trial run and if we see lots of support than there is a higher probability of more like it with even a more long-term event in the future. I do hope you all enjoy it though as we are putting a lot of work into making it a smash up success!
|
So, will Justin.tv lift their regional viewers limit for this event, or will all the viewers be american?
Also, I might be blind; But I don't see which server, although I'm assuming US.
|
remove SoW from the map pool imo.
|
There is no longer a regional viewer cap on justin.tv. That was taken away a while ago as they told us so that shouldn't be an issue once things get going. We're looking forward to proving that by having tons of people from all over the world watching at the same time. :-)
And I am considering looking at the map pool rules looking at it now. I had forgotten one of my favorite systems for choosing maps in Bo whatever events, and that's the alternating banning system where you leave only the remaining maps. I'll talk it over with the other admins sometime today and see what we might do about that.
And yes, this will be on the US servers.
|
|
|
Just added two more players to the list of confirmed invites. Just to keep things interesting... With this many players I think we'll reveal a few more each day until the list is complete.
|
can't wait for this.....gl to all those who get invited and participate...i wonder if other stream sites will host tournaments like Ustream and owned

As the final confirmations roll in a few more players have been added to the growing list of amazing players. Check out the list in the spoiler up top!
|
And since I'm an insomniac that wants to watch the GSL finals I figure I might as well add a few more players to the list since it's technically a new day.
For those of you wondering about if you can get into this event as it stands... might I suggest you pay attention to this thread a bit more as well because as I said... there are 10 spots deliberately not confirmed for a reason.
Regardless, if you think you deserve a spot a PM never hurts either since I'm directly responsible for all the invites... You never know...

More time passes and more players are added to the roster... and for those who are too lazy to click on the spoiler I'll start posting the players in these as well

Yeah I put a lot of effort and used some connections with these guys to get them involved in this event. This one's a bit of a trial run for us from justin.tv to see what can happen so with the great response we've been getting we're hoping that they'll provide us with even more money to put on some even better events. ActionJesus yay he's in this tournament :D

What happened to kiwi and huk? i would like to see them in this
|
No kidding, kiwi and HuK would make this a dream.
|
|
|
Huk is in Korea for those that do not know and thus is hard to get ahold of. As for Kiwi for whatever the reason he has declined our invitation / isn't responding to our invitation. Having said that we are talking to Nazgul who if you don't know is the manager for Sc2 tl.net stuff. So we are trying for you guys ^.^
|
i'm interested in playing as well.
Romorc . 550
|
Yeah about that whole player thing... Just got back from a long day at work and managed to lock up a couple of excellent additions to our roster! And by popular demand...
EGLZGamer
RootKiwiKaki
FXOSheth
Hope you're all a lot more excited by the addition of Mr Kiwikaki since a few of you were eagerly hunting him down as a possible addition to our roster! As for the TeamLiquid.net guys I am very sad to say that they turned down our invitation for this particular event due to the issue of latency in Korea to the US servers and Mr TLO's continuing wrist problems. (Wishing you the swiftest recovery buddy! ) More to come soon as this amazing list of players continues to grow!
|
And three more great names for you all before I call it a night on my end and get some well-deserved sleep before I move on and wake up for a brand new work day in like 3 hours... X_X
VTSpades
atnSocke
EGStrifeCro
|
With such a small prize pool I'm amazed at the player list but this is definitely going to be exciting.
|
Zeles, I've started to notice that a lot of these guys are more than happy to play as long as the competition is good and the format makes sense for their busy lives. Plus actually approaching them all with a level of respect as I have done has definitely not hurt my chances but as the list grows I keep staring in amazement at just how good of a response we have gotten to this event.
Granted as I'm sure you'll see with the final list I couldn't get everybody to play, and there are always those players who are too busy and the like and therefore not able to participate, so if you see somebody missing you think should be in the event it's most likely because they were either A) Too hard to get in touch with or B) Declined my invite for whatever reason, which is totally ok in my mind since we all have lives outside of SC2 and prior commitments, even these guys on the highest level.
And for those wondering... yes I couldn't sleep because I looked at the clock and realized a lot of my pending EU invitees would probably be waking up so I could chat with them to see if they were still interested!
|
Ravenwolf your such a cock-tease
and i mean that in the most positive way =)
list just gets better and better, you should be very proud of yourself and the people with you <3
|
That's a damn solid list of players. Looking forward to this.
|
Well just got back from work so I'll add three more players to your list of awesomeness. I really appreciate the positive response from you all regarding this event so far, I've been personally working my ass off to try to give everyone an event that we all can enjoy from a player angle while my partner Rakura and others (like our gracious tournament site z33k.com) work on the other aspects of the event.
Regardless, here's three more players for you all to enjoy!
KawaiiRice
VTDesrow
FXOSheth
Also wanted to apologize to all the ROOT gaming players since I'm an idiot and put Root instead of ROOT for their clan tags... Fail me... But better late than never I suppose! X_X
|
So did Sheth clone himself to play twice? Cause he is on the list twice! :D
But really, this tournament is looking AWESOME so far.
|
And YES Mr Sheth TOTALLY has cloning capability and therefore is in this event multiple times! X_X. No that was me being an idiot because my list is so long that I forgot to check the thread even though he was RIGHT above the others...
To repay you I added two to the list instead of one so that things could even out a bit! But without further ado (and before my new work day) I am pleased to announce that
EmpireKas
PraeNightend
VTLooky
Naugrim
WILL be joining us on the 6th for some amazing SC2 action!
And for those of you wondering how on earth we can cover each and every one of these matches come game day, we decided to make the intelligent decision that because we ended up with so many amazing players that besides our live coverage we will be ensuring that EVERY SINGLE match is covered in a live replay format and uploaded for everyone's viewing pleasure as quickly as possible once the games have been taken care of.
That way there will be no questions about just how your favorite player kicked somebody's butt or where that crazy upset came from! I'm off for now crew but I'll be back with more later today! Get pumped!

As an update we did get Kiwi into the lineup. However, and Raven still has the final verdict here, but as it stands on the information I have available Nazgul has formally declined our invitation. This means that no TeamLiquid members will be showing up. Now this could change last minute. The reason it could change last minute is there will be several qualifier tournaments for the public to get involved in.
What does that mean? It means that if you should win one of these tournaments you will get an invitation to participate in the Justin.tv invitational. This also means a random TL.net member "might" show up and win one.
Where do I sign up for one of these? Currently we have not worked the final details out for these but starting next week I would be paying really close attention to this thread and any news related to this tournament. Also I suggest you drop by the GosuCrew's stream as information sometimes is slipped ahead of time to their regular viewers.

Really? I'm certain I got it just a week or so ago when I tried to watch some sc2 stream(cant remember what player)
But yeah, hopefully justin.tv can set it up(since it is their tournament) in a way to avoid that because it's very frustrating.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the number of top players in this tournament, for the relatively small price pool. I guess these guys just love SC2. Funny how that works, eh? :D

am i the only one wondering there are no Liquid Players on the List? Is there a special reason behind this?
|
Keri,
To answer your question... I have done everything in my power to try to get members of Team Liquid into this event and have unfortunately been met with the tragic reality that they were just not interested in playing. TLO WAS going to play, but unfortunately is going to be on a plane while this event is occurring, and after talking to Nazgul he said that the guys in Korea weren't interested.
Been trying to catch Tyler for a week or so now to no avail thus far but I will continue to hold out in the hopes that I can get at least ONE representative from TL.net in this event since, as the guy who's been going days without sleep just so I can get in touch with these players personally to invite them, it's caused me great sadness to not have a representative from Team Liquid in this event to date...
I will continue to try until I am completely left with no invites to secure at least one TL.net player for this tournament for you all to enjoy, but I am met with continued sadness in my struggles... . Here's to hoping!
|
|
Looks like a great tournament. Would be nice to see team liquid members but of course they're busy preparing for the GSL season (good luck to them) but there are a lot of top players scheduled already should be great. Really want to see which of these guys has what it takes to compete in Korea.
|

Second qualifier is going to be this Thursday at 9 PM EST if you have not signed up by all means do so. Coverage will be on the same channel as the first. There will be 4 more qualifiers after this one but as we inch closer to the real tournament the competition and late entries will only make getting a prized invitation that much harder.

Yes Gosu Crew will be covering as many matches as possible during the tournament. However, we cannot cover them all. Having said this the plan is to go back and cast every match round by round. This will take some time of course but we will get it done because as most people have said the pool of players for this tournament makes it worth doing.

All of the above is correct... And also here's a few more players for you all to enjoy! The list is ALMOST complete!

I hope the replays will be released to someone to commentate the matches that are not aired, with that lineup there's going to be many epic games, would be a shame to deprive the fans! Replays are always available as soon as the match is reported. Simply navigate to the match and click download. As for back-casting the unaired games, I believe the plan is to go over them the 7th (Friday). We will keep you posted though. Also, the 2nd qualifier for the main event is today (30th) at 6pm PT / 9pm ET, so if you still want in, make sure to register here http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/93-justin-tv-qualifier-2 Yes Gosu Crew will be covering as many matches as possible during the tournament. However, we cannot cover them all. Having said this the plan is to go back and cast every match round by round. im sure alot of other stream teams would love to cast the games you guys can't, like what GLHF.tv and TotalBiscuit did in Dreamhack for the games Day9 couldn't cast

Dam that is an awesome looking wiki page. wtb more like this
|
As everyone repeatedly says when it comes to Team Liquid representation I am constantly saddened since TLO will be unavailable when the play time comes and Tyler never got back to me no matter how many times I tried to message him.
Nazgul also said that the other TL.net members turned me down based on the lag issue when I discussed it with him, so the fact that I"m missing Team Liquid is probably the one thing that I'm unhappy with based on my invite list.
Other than that, I think it turned out pretty well, and if you want in, ENTER A QUALIFIER!
We have one this evening at 9PM EST on z33k.com, and also on Monday and Wednesday.
This is also the last day to enter the cevo.com qualifiers on Tuesday which will take place at 7PM EST. So let's get going and PROVE that you have what it takes to play with the best in the world, you never know what might happen...
|
|
Reminder to everyone that the third Justin.tv Invitational Qualfier is this evening at 9PM EST. If you signed up MAKE SURE YOU COME 20 MINS BEFORE START TIME so you can confirm your registration for the event and we can have an awesome qualfier!
If you are on the backup list... SHOW UP ANYWAY! There are always a significant amount of people that dont' show for some reason so we always end up using some backup players. So get moving and get ready for some awesome Starcraft 2 action!

but looks great none the less
|
|
ThisIsJimmy is up there twice.
|
Two words: Action Jesus.
Nuff said.
Other than that little bit of hilarity, this looks like a phenomenal lineup of players. Can't wait to watch!
|
Oh actionjesus was a carefully calculated decision on my part because I'm the type of guy that likes to give people a chance to prove themselves off more than one event. Although I am going to be horribly curious about what tactics he uses in this event and if he's more than a one-trick pony.
Also, thanks for catching the duplicate... I had a giant spreadsheet and it was so easy to screw it up, but ThisIsJimmy no longer appears on the list twice
Reminder though... SIGN UP FOR THE QUALIFIERS! Cevo's event is far from full and they have a few keys to give out and z33k.com needs backup players since many times players don't show up so you have a pretty good shot at getting into at least one of these events even as a backup!
But get ready for some AWESOME SC2 action at 9PM EST tonight... for z33k.com's 3rd Qualifier for the Justin.tv Invitational! Good luck to all that enter!
|
|
Justin.tv Qualifier Number 3 is starting in a few short hours. Feel free to enter as a backup yet since there are always people that don't show and we're really gunning to have at least 128 for this evening's event. If we do manage to get even larger we could always expand the bracket size on a whim based on interest.
Sign ups and player list is http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/98-justin-tv-qualifier-3
Let's get this party started! This event will be covered live by The Gosu Crew as always, at http://justin.tv/rakura1
|
I'm sad liquid`tyler isn't going to participate, but I'm still super excited to watch the tourney.
GO incontrol!
I think i'll try and qualify, but I"m just pretty much screwed in that department. Good tourney experience thoughl.

|
Z33k.com Qualifier number 3 for the Justin.tv Invitational starts in just under 30 minutes. If you signed up to play make sure you go to the website and check in so we can get this party started and prepare for a night of awesome StarCraft2 action!
If you didn't sign up, don't worry, there are still quite a few opportunities, one per day to be precise, on z33k.com and Cevo.com
Regardless, let's get ready for a night of awesome StarCraft2 Action! :-)
|
Website for qualifier #3 isn't working, could someone post the brackets?
|
|
Qualifier 3 was a bang up success! 110 players battled for 1 spot to in the Justin.tv Invitational and we ended up with a great battle between two interesting terran players. ICCup maps WERE used and great entertainment was had by all.
But you can STILL get into this epic event! 3 Qualifiers remain but the CEVO event is now WAY easier to register for... just follow these simple steps
1) Make a CEVO account
2) Email cmowery@cevo.com with
A) Your CEVO account name
B) Your Starcraft 2 game name and character code
and C) Say you want into the CEVO Justin.tv Invitational qualifier
Do that and you're IN!!! So get registering! 6PM CST on Tuesday with lots of spots left open!
|
Don't forget that tonight at 9PM EST, Qualifier Number 4 for the Justin.tv Invitational begins! The first three events have been stellar and many great players have been battling for that spot in this awesome tournament event.
If you signed up, MAKE SURE YOU COME TO CHECK IN STARTING 20 MINS BEFORE GAMETIME!
Just because you signed up doesn't mean you are automatically in the event unless you come and confirm your spot before the start of the event. We'll keep expanding the event to accommodate more players if we must, so just because it might look full doesn't mean it actually is!
So let's get going and crown another Qualifier champion! Signups are located at
http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/100-justin-tv-qualifier-4
|
We're up to 235 players signed up for this evening's event... we'd love to get a 256 player bracket for this evening to make this our largest qualifier yet, so KEEP SIGNING UP! :-)
http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/100-justin-tv-qualifier-4
So many quality games and so little time left to sign up for this evening! Keep the numbers coming, we always need backups if we go over and if we have to we'll expand the bracket size to accommodate more players! Let's do it!
|
jayneld.881 signed up for 4 and 5
|
|
the qualifiers are already crazy from the streams I've caught
|
Qualifier Number 4 starts in 40 minutes! If you signed up make sure you CHECK IN starting 20 minutes before the event is scheduled to start so that you can confirm your spot. Looking to get a 256 player bracket going with the number on signups so we'll probably need more backups if people don't show!
http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/100-justin-tv-qualifier-4
Coverage will be available from The Gosu Crew at http://justin.tv/rakura1 as always and we look forward to an amazing event!

I really wish that Delta and Jungle weren't in the map pool for the qualifiers, especially right before the bo3 rounds ><
|
Congrats to vVvMurder for winning the Justin.tv Qualifier #4
|
Watching the VODs now, and I like both Rakura and RavenWolf's casting. I like that you guys take the time to walk around the non-ladder maps and bring some diversity in while keeping people informed.
My only suggestion is that (if you guys don't have one) you should get a mod who can answer questions in the chat. It's a little odd to be watching 3 or 4 minutes into a match and still be taking questions from the chat, especially if it's not pertinent to the match at hand. The beginning's understandably slow but you can do things like talk about what happened before in the tourney, what the plans are in the future, really hype up the event. I wasn't able to watch live so I don't know the exact circumstances, but it will definitely help the event.
|
I also like them as casters, think they do a good job. Also had the pleasure of being casted by them in that tourney, too bad the game didn't turn out in my favor. Well done though, gonna try again in tomorrow qualifier.
|
Well qualifier number 4 went extremely well and gratz to VVVMurder for pulling out over Mr NRGCocoa in a series that went all 5 games. But one more Justin.tv Invitational Open qualifier is yet to be played and the excitement is building!
And to honor our dedicated players, and because we've had such an amazing response to these events thus far, we are excited to announce that we will be awarding not one but TWO keys to the Justin.tv Invitational to our lucky players that make it to the bitter end of this.
So let's get ready to rumble and make this final qualifier the best one yet! The action starts Wednesday at 9PM EST, so go sign up now and if we fill up the 512 player bracket we'll just make it bigger to accommodate even more players! Let's do this!
http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/99-justin-tv-qualifier-5
|
|
301 players have already signed up for their final chance at getting into the Justin.tv Invitational, but we want more! Let's make last event the biggest qualifier tournament we've offered yet, after all, with two invite keys at stake, your odds of winning one just doubled!
http://www.z33k.com/starcraft2/tournaments/99-justin-tv-qualifier-5
|
Count up to 328 still plenty of slots left for today's qualifier. Grats to Boo for winning Cevo's qualifier.

One Qualifier for the Justin.tv Invitational remains... who will fight for their right to play against the best and get a shot at 400 USD? Signups remain OPEN, and we'd LOVE to have even more players to make this the biggest qualifier we've had yet for a grand finale to this awesome event.
So what're you waiting for? SIGN UP NOW! Final check in starts 20 minutes before the event at 8:40 PM EST. We'll keep expanding the brackets as necessary to accommodate more players!

358 players think they have what it takes to qualify for the Justin.tv Invitational, why not make it a few more and show everyone that you have what it takes to play with the best and beat them? Mana is amazingly solid. Also, great job going straight into the next game so quickly. Other tournaments need to be as organized as this.

Inka vs Axslav in round 1? You guys have 64 players and you couldn't even take the time to split up teammates?

No lots of people from Europe have horrible lag from justin.tv, it is better than a while ago when there were too many connections from the Netherlands and it just kicked you if you watched

HOLY shit :O Firezerg beating BratOK?
huge upset, probs to firezerg!

Why no turrets Bratok ;(. Maybe it being like 4am matter
|
Was questioning BratOK's strat against Dimaga earlier, the hellion/marauder mix didn't quite work as it did in those games, it crippled Dimaga heavily... with practically 5 marines as anti-air—seems like it's easily punishable with the right timing/defense and plenty of muta's... and no turrets

Really disapointing play by Bratok , I really don't understand why he didn't have at least one turret in his main before the muta came , he had the engineering bay :s .

I am dissapointed with Justin.TV, it lags like hell.

Agreed -- although I think for the sake of getting publicity they had the quals so that way they would get the stream featured, etc.

A lot of good players (both Euro and NA) couldn't attend or got dropped really early due to some of the cheesy qualifiers. Go and download some of the replays, it's pretty sad actually.

He used to be BrokenRhythm and has been very high on the NA top200 for quite a few weeks.
I don't think he's had any real tournament success but I could be mistaken.

I am so happy for Catz. I remember at the beginning of the tournament he was saying "Yeah its so hard to win tournaments...I really doubt I'm going to win. But I'll try my best."
I go away for a couple hours, come back to see the final game. I'm just so happy for him.
Congrats Catz. Use the 400$ well. You deserve it.

Catz's macro is just too beastly, nice game to cap off an awesome tournament. Bubbles did put on a good show though, so bravo to him.

Congrats to CatZ
And indeed, some creative builds coming from Bubbles, liked the DT>Archon game especially. Great series overall, and well organized tournament I'd say, had a nice pace to it, with little to no down time. G to the G

Epic macro game. Catz is really no pushover nowadays. Cheese with cannons, get cheesed back with proxy hatch or nydus. Attempt a long macro game, then get out-macroed back.

waking up and seeing Catz won the tournament makes me so happy
i have rarely seen his play or his stream, but there is something about him, maybe his charming personality and unorthodox play style is compelling(mainly becasue he is zerg and they always feel so restricted)

On January 07 2011 19:23 Lynskey wrote: The replay pack is a bit messed up - there's the wrong matches in some folders
Not quite, it's because we've added extra "dummy" replays when a player won early in a bo3 or bo5. This makes it spoiler free.
However, I went ahead and updated the replay pack so that when you open the folder ingame, the replays are listed in the order that they were played. If you download the replay pack you will see this.
|
No offense to Justin.tv, but this tournament was a failure. You had way too many forfeit wins and having a best of 1 with a player list like this is pretty dumb.
|
Yo.. for those of you criticizing my marine scv all in vs goody and incontrol and bubbles, you guys do understand this is a tournament, and a tournament with a bad layout, its BO1, i honestly expected cheese from a lot of people so i decided to preemptively not let that happen to me. I play with bubbles often on ladder and I open bottom ramp wall off to either do the 3rax or feign the 3rax, because the 2 buildings to wall off on bottom of ramp is obviously an issue (which is why its being addressed in 1.2) its pretty much making terran bases unscoutable so he has to decide on his own whether or not I'm doing it. [I'm 3-1 on bubbles, twice 3rax cheese twice not] But again, it was a BO1, and its winnert take all, there is NOTHING for second, so why not go all in since then entire tourny structure was designed to go all in. Maybe next time it will be a B03 in the RO64 so people aren't put in uncomfortable positions and it would allow the 'better' player to make it further.
|
Explicit, I find it hard to beleive your 3-1 against bubbles. And you cheese quite often on ladder, and in turnies. Your also a very BM player. Only way your going to get around to people actually liking you is by changing your manners at least. You can start by not running your mouth.
|
For those of you criticizing the tournament layout, it was the first event of what we hope to be many, and as for the forfeit wins, I have unfortunately learned that many in the EU players, despite saying that they would play and reconfirming even minutes before the event, don't necessarily show up to play their matches.
Regardless, the Bo1 format was created explicitly for the convenience of the EU and Russian players that were in the event so they would not have to play at 5 in the morning local time. When we get around to announcing the next invitational event, you'll be seeing some noticeable changes to some of the setup and one of those will be making this a bo3 event straight through for the benefit of all the viewers.
|

Why do I care if some kid on the internet likes me or doesn't? I'm not here to impress a 12 year old. I play this game to have fun, everything else is an added bonus, i am 3-1 on bubbles I really don't care if you believe me or not, thats your problem not mine, he was known as brokenrhythm and not always by ppgbubbles. if you were too dumb to notice my name is EXPLICIT I BM to get a rise out of people, win or lose, and if you cant understand the joke, again, thats not my fault and I don't care. deal with it. If you fail to understand the reasons for cheesing in a BO1 tournament, that is also not my fault. On a somewhat unrelated note, you aren't even capable of understanding the different between you're* and your*, its also tournies* and believe* Before you go trying to insult people, maybe you should go back to school, then learn some respect, then learn starcraft.

Maybe you should explain to people why you're so BM then. Manners like that tend to turn people away from you. It's also not very beneficial for sponsors to see players in their tournaments rage about something. Just thought I'd add.
|
I did explain why I BM, maybe you didn't catch it, maybe you don't know what explicit means, literally, I'm trolling. if you don't know what that is... then I'll just exit this conversation.
