Overview North American gaming organization elevengaming has partnered with Best Western, LANDOGS, and our other sponsors, to put on one of the largest midwest LAN events of 2011. With space for more than 100 gamers, three days of SC2-related events and more than $2000 in cash and prizes, this event promises to draw some big names and great play. First place in the main event is guaranteed to walk out with more than $1000 in cash and prizes alone! (AND we're getting one of those big-ass checks) This is considered a BYOC event. We will have an extremely limited number of PCs (probably four or five) available for rental, but we are not responsible for ensuring you have a place to play come event time. The entry fee for all the events is $30 if you pre-pay or $40 at the door
This sounds very interesting. How would one go about reserving a spot in the main event if you feel they deserve it? Just asking because I'm interested! : )
On December 08 2010 02:15 Sheth wrote: This sounds very interesting. How would one go about reserving a spot in the main event if you feel they deserve it? Just asking because I'm interested! : )
The main event will be completely open to all parties. The only restricted events will be the events for lower-tier players (i.e. we might have a "battle of the bronze" event). The main event will be the biggest event (with the biggest prize pool), and will be open to anyone who has paid/registered, from bronzies to grandmasters.
On December 08 2010 14:21 vaderseven wrote: Is there any option for a spectator fee (for a significant other for instance)?
There is no fee for spectators, however, spectators are not allowed to bring in PCs or participate in any events. Registered players will have colored bracelets, and will need to escort their spectators into the main game rooms. As I said in the OP, there will be a seperate casting room, and observers are welcome to watch there, even outside the company of registered participants.
Do keep in mind that if this event fills all the rooms to capacity, room will be limited for observers. Please limit friends/girlfriends/observers joining you in the main game room to one, especially during the main event. Big crowds standing behind one player will not work in this setting, if the room is full.
Cudos on taking the initiative, I hope it works out well for all who are involved. I believe we spoke before, but if you find yourself short handed down the road, PM me, and I can lend a hand on the ground (live in st louis as well). Now... if only it were the 19th through the 21st, that way I wouldn't have to take any days off work because I will be surely eliminated earlyon ;]
Also, I will be sure to pass this onto the other WU guys, I know theyll be interested.
when is the deadline for preregistration? I need to make sure i have no major exams or anything like that, I should be ok to go though. Just being safe haha.

Good question. There really is no deadline for pre-registration (might close like 1-week before), however, at the absolute most, we'd be able to handle like 125-150 people. I didn't think that would be a problem, but I already got a few pre-regs in the less than 24 hours since the site has been up, and at least a dozen additional e-mails. My advice is don't pre-register until you're sure that you're going to come, but pre-reg as soon as you do know. If we get close to the limit, we may have to close additional registrations.
As a fellow team member of xi - elevengaming, and co-manager I am very excited for this event. I feel that we might have a lot of extra time. Plus I'm hearing that a few top teams might bring some of their players or almost full teams. I bet we might have time for like a mini clan war tournament if we are quick. It could be really fun.
Please respond to the thread, PM Domino, or visit elevengaming.com/forum if you have any questions! Thanks -Nizzy
The schedule page has been updated on the website, with some of the interesting events we plan to have. A timeline of when each event will take place will come out closer to the event date, but feel free to drop by and take a look! There's a little something for everyone there..
I may be there, and may even try to compete if I actually get decent. I so need to ladder more often. (12 games XD and I bought it midnight the night it came out. Did really well in Beta, gold ranked, and now I'm better then I was, so maybe.)
Does it cost the $30 just to watch, or to play, or both? (I've never been to nor participated in an e-Sport, so I don't know.)

Thanks for the interest! It does NOT cost $30 to watch (free!), however, watchers will be limited to the casting room only, and will not be able to hook up a PC, as space will be limited in the main game rooms.
Don't forget to check out the full "events" list on the page, because we're having a "Precious Metals" event, for people ranked below diamond. The precious metals event will have prize(s) of it's own, and that's just one of quite a few events we have planned that weekend for people who feel they might not be at the level to compete for the top prize.
Don't forget - it's a full 3-day event! You're welcome to play games besides Starcraft during the three days, and you can come to play the lower-caliber events, and just to hang out and rep the scene. Should be spectacular fun either way!
This sounds pretty amazing. If preregistration fills up and a top name player wants to join in the last minute what will you guys do? Bump a player or add the top player in?
Just wondering for possibly signing up but also if I can't play I'd love to go watch some great competition.

Honestly, it's going to be first come, first serve as far as paid registrations. If we overflow and there are way more people than space, we will do our best to accomadate everyone. No one who has registered and pre-paid will be bumped for any reason.
If we hit 100 pre-registers, I will likely close the pre-reg and offer first-come first-serve at the door as space allows. If we're at capacity, we will ask if anyone is willing to share. If no one can share their PC and no one leaving anytime soon, we will have no choice but to turn away walk-ins.
In order to ensure that the money is withdrawn from paypal and available for bills, equipment and prize payout, we will be closing all pre-registration and pre-payment on February 10th. Anyone who is not registered and prepaid by then will have to pay the $40 at-door-fee and be subject to space and first-come-first-serve restrictions.
I believe I said it in a post before, but my advice is do not pre-register until you're sure you are coming, but when you are sure, do register ASAP.
On December 28 2010 04:00 kentarre wrote: When do the events start up on Friday? I'd need to plan to take the day off or not or just drive over after work since I'm 20 minutes away.
Doors will open on Friday probably around 5:00-6:00 pm (we will announce a specific time prior to the event, logistics are being worked on every day). Some of the smaller events (2v2 or FFA) will start Friday night around 7, 7:30.
The main event will take place on Saturday, time TBA.
The site has been updated with an "event info" section, where we detail things you should know if you're coming. Also started on more of the scheduled events, with rules and scheduled times for each of the different tournaments we'll be having over the course. The section will be continually updated as time goes on.
Tournament word is spreading pretty well. We have confirmed players coming from as far as Canada and Maine, and a lot of college groups are making the trip from out of state together (great idea!). I also received some of the prizes we'll be giving away, including a pair of $300 XFX video cards and a few mice from Razer.
Prizes for the Main Event have been listed. There seemed to be some confusion with a lot of people asking how the prize pool would be distributed - and others who thought the prize was totally cash. The event was advertised as $2000 in cash and prizes, not $2000 cash.
The following are the prizes for the main event only, and are subject to being raised if player turnout is exceptional. These items are in-hand already and will not be deducted from the prize pool under any conditions.
There's been some discussion about adding one or two non-bnet maps to the map pool for the main event. Cast your vote, and we'll make a decision on it soon! We'll likely go with popular demand on this one.
Scrap Station Steppes of War Lost Temple Xel’Naga Caverns Shakuras Plateau Metalopolis
That is the current map pool. I don't have a problem if we use alternative maps but we should keep them limited to 3 or 4 and also post them asap so people can practice on them for the event.
I can check the 2v2 maps and put together a map pool for that, its not hard to tell which ones suck and which ones give good games.
On January 20 2011 08:54 Antimage wrote: please include GSL maps... also take out scrap station please (and steppes or metal for those who prefer, i don't mind either way)
I can agree with new maps, but metal?
I honestly thought that was the most balanced ladder map when you consider all the maps.
PLEASE include GSL maps, they're a blast to cast. I would recommend adding GSL Tal Darim Altar, GSL Biohazard 2, and Crossfire. Take out Scrap. Metal is fine, there's just going to be a couple of maps where positioning will work to some people's advantage.
If there is anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area or will be traveling through on there way to the event I was thinking about car pooling instead of taking a bus or flying. Just e-mail me at Sgd42@live.com and we can come up with some sort of plan.

Cats this sounds very interesting. You know at first I'd be against these maps because people don't play them that often, however it would be very very refreshing to play new maps at a LAN event for fun compared to the same lame ladder maps. Maybe a few IC Cup maps won't hurt either.
On January 24 2011 21:41 Shermac42 wrote: Lol you said take out Scrap Station, sounds like someone plays Toss.
Cats is pretty devotes a good 40 hours/week into shoutcasting. He's probably casted more games in SC2 than you've played. With all his experience I'm positive he'd know which games would give really good games for ALL RACES.

^_^
Anyway, I'm less sure of the iCCup maps right now. Many are just fine, but the GSL maps are so freaking good its just hard to pass those up. My ideal map list from a caster's perspective would be:
Metalopolis Lost Temple Xel Naga Caverns Shakuras Plateau Crossfire Tal Darim Altar Crevasse Legacy of the Void

Maybe we should do 4-5 ladder maps, 1-2 iCCup Maps, and 1-2 GSL maps?

If you take 2 GSL maps, after looking at the updated list, do Tal Darim Altar and Legacy of the Void. You won't be disappointed with some of the matches you'll get. Trust me.

in response to maps, my personal preference is no GSL maps (right now i'm not even considering iccup, just because as an organization gsl has way more credibility). But if 1-2 of the gsl maps that are fairly similar gameplay wise to existing blizzard maps were introduced, I wouldn't be mad (until i lose on them heheh)
Maybe you could even have some rule like at most 1 gsl map can be played per set, so that players who aren't as familiar with them won't feel as disadvantaged.
Take out Crossfire please, I don't even know why that map is in the map pool - large ramp like scrap station and the opening to the natural is too large so you can't even wall that off as terran or protoss.
On January 26 2011 02:03 Antimage wrote: Take out Crossfire please, I don't even know why that map is in the map pool - large ramp like scrap station and the opening to the natural is too large so you can't even wall that off as terran or protoss.
It's not in. So far only official ladder maps are in the map pool. Other maps that have been thrown around are just ideas. So have no fear! What maps would you like to see?
This sounds amazing! I have been hoping SOMETHING would happen in St. Louis soon, and you guys just did it even bigger than I could have hoped, you guys rock!
Personally, I see a huge upside, because the stakes are high enough, to only go with maps available to all for mass practice (ladder maps). Trimming the ladder pool DOWN is probably a good idea but adding maps can be difficult for all to find practice on.
I love the GSL maps (don't really care for the iCCup maps myself) but I just see better games happening on a map where I have 300 games played instead of 25.
That being said, more important than what maps is that a pool be finalized soon. If there is going to be iccup or gsl maps please say so soon so that we can get our practice in.
Love how this event is looking so far. Domino (v1dom) looks very organized and dedicated. This event is going to be awesome because of that.
Well if people don't want iCCup/gsl because of limited practice I can agree with that.
If most people want to just use ladder maps (which it seems like that is whats wanted the majority)... we cannot just pick "5" ladder maps because person "x" thinks they are the balanced.
We would have to allow all ladder maps. What we could do is before every match have each player talk really fast and veto 2 or 3 maps. So then each player v player has like 3-4 maps to choose from for their bo1, or bo3.
Zergs aren't going to want Delta Q. Terrans are. So is it really balanced or just bad for 1 race? Half the ladder maps are bad but if you're going to say "ladder maps only" who is to say which ones are really balanced?
The veto process would be fine, actually, just allow all maps. Maps like Scrap Station are fun to cast, then, as long as there's not a Zerg involved. I think this may actually be better.

Better that maps that have established imbalance features that all players know how to take advantage of be disallowed - than maps where there may be imbalance features, but haven't been explored enough to take advantage of.
There are strategies in ZvP on scrap station that can only be stopped by assuming it is being done (no scouting window), and taking an immediate disadvantage in order to have the capability of beating it, wihle taking a huge setback in the mid-game if that strategy wasn't being used - and frankly, I'd have to say that my ZvP on scrap station is much better than my PvP on it, and if I had to play this map, I'd learn ZvP and ZvZ for the tournament.
I agree with everything you're saying, I really do, but anyway you try to type it out...it still goes back to my original point. You're saying remove scrap because its impossible for race X to win against race X unless that's all you prepare for.
So are we going to only allow Protoss favored maps because Toss can't beat Zerg on "X"? The same could be said on X for Terran vs X, and etc for Zerg until you have 0 maps left.
I'm a Terran that struggles on Xel Naga vs Zerg but near impossible for me to lose on Delta Quad. So the Zerg I play in round X, will veto Delta, I will Veto Xel Naga. If each player gets 3 vetos, that leaves a good 3 maps to play on. Each player will probably get similar situations in ladder that they would get on Bnet.
I really don't see a more fair way. I think Steppes is a horrible map while some might think its a perfectly balanced smaller map. So I think this veto system with allowing the full 9 ladder maps or whatever + SHAK PLAT if its not currently in the pool is the best option.
Here's the starting map per each round:
Round of 128: Steppes of War Round of 64: Scrap Station Round of 32: TBA Round of 16:TBA Round of 8: Lost Temple Round of 4: Metalopolis
Championship Round: Xel’Naga Caverns
I think maps like Steppes/SS probably shouldn't be starting maps. Maybe rotate LT/Metal/XelNaga/ShakPlat or something.
I think he's saying he'd rather have all the ladder maps, imbalanced ones and all, then introducing new maps that only some players will be able to take advantage of.
By the way, I suggest throwing Shakuras Plateau into the list of maps that start rounds.
As the debate rages on about the map pool, I am pleased to announce that Themaltake has agreed to join on as a sponsor for the MWC. We will be getting several more items that will be added to the prize pool! With Thermaltake's generous package of prizes, we expect the prize pool to now exceed $3000!
We will be detailing how these prizes will be added to the prize pool within the next week or so.
On the map note, I have been getting a lot of inquiry into a decision. As the voting is close, it is likely I will add one GSL map to the pool, and allow players one veto per match. I think this is a fair compromise, as people who don't want to play on the GSL map are free to veto it, and those that do will have one veto available for another map (say, Scrap). If the map is the starting map for that round, you will not be able to veto it.
That is not the final decision, but what I am leaning toward. I will let the debate continue for awhile longer before making the final call, if anyone has any additional comments or arguements they'd like to make.
I really hope this goes well, we need more Live events in the midwest, in missouri specifically!
Also doing a small plug - support all live events in the midwest guys, there are some in Columbia even on a smaller more frequent basis. Soon to be at MU as well. The more exposure the better they get. I'll be advertising this event this weekend on the 30th at the Virtual Arena I know some of the 14 or so people signed up for that event don't know about this one so hopefully I can get some of them to go to this.
I printed off the flyer from your forums (xi gaming) anything I'll need to mention otherwise? (PM me because I don't religiously check these forums).
I really hope this kind of thing happens more often! If there are any other people that live in St. Louis willing to help make things happen, let me know!
fucking blows illl be 20 in march. but my dad might want to come for a mini vacation and go meet some family but well see, maybe someone from elvengaming could talk to them and see if they can let us do it without 21 yr olds
I was unaware you need someone 21+ to check into the room [I'm old enough, and didn't think to ask before]. I will talk to my contact at the hotel and see if there's any flexibility, but it's likely an insurance requirement, rather than them just picking on young people.
I know that this will affect several people who are planning on coming (including players from elevengaming, all who are coming). I will do my best to see what I can do. Though it may be weird, a suggestion would be to pair up with someone over 21 if you aren't. I certainly can't be responsible for, and check in every player that comes.
To keep the thread on-topic, I will edit this post if I find out anything different that what was posted above, or any exceptions.
okay thanks! I'm sure we will get something worked out, but I would maybe just email everyone that signed up about the 21 + older, I think you mass emailed before so it should be a problem.
I am just wondering, are there going to be any "big name" players attending? I didn't see any on the registration list, but I would love to be able to get stomped by ThisIsJimmy, or CatZ or something, i doubt any code S players will show up, but I know the code A ones will still roll me (and probably 95ish % of anyone that comes)

Highly doubtful, very doubtful. There will be some talented players, but none you have heard of before. This is going to be a big event, but nothing noteworthy. It's going to leave a mark though which I think is the intent, if this is successful maybe they will have enough credibility to do another one sometime on a larger scale that might attract some ultra gosu attention.

Anyway, I know that Dom has been in contact with some great players. I won't talk about any more, but still, between Antimage, rsvp, Specialist, Slurgi, and others, there's going to be some INCREDIBLE matches.

Without meaning to be too cryptic, I can tell you that there are a lot of people planning to come who haven't pre-registered. Some of them are "known" on the NA scene. It's not my business to share others business, so I'll leave it at that. Believe me when I say, there is no doubt that we're going to have some great talent at this event.

Wow no way, I didn't know Gerbil switched to toss!
:p I can't wait for this, just booked the flight!!!
We picked up Bigfootnetworks as yet another sponsor for this event, and in addition, have added Tal'Darim Altar as the one "alternative" map. It will also serve as the RO32 starting map.
I have literally a closet full of goodies for giveaway, and its only getting more stacked. I will probably wait to post the pools for the smaller events until after pre-registration closes, and I have all the new sponsors' items in hand. From experience, I find it best not to promise items until they're in hand.
Don't forget to pre-reg by Feb 10 to lock your seat up, and look forward to seeing everyone there!
Hi as primarily a ladder player I have not gotten to practice on Tal'Darim Altar. Is there somewhere we can download it? I can't seem to find it online and would prefer to play on it before a tournament setting ><

If you just "create a custom game" on battle.net, then type "GSL" into the search box, you'll find all the GSL Maps including Tal'Darim Altar. Hope this helps!

This is amazing! I live in STL and I didn't realize we had this many SC2 gamers out here but reading this thread has proven me otherwise. Will be a great chance to meet some SC2 gamers in the area, very much looking forward to it.
I've never noticed a LAN out here, how did Evelengaming come to be? Can you give us any insight into what prompted you to plan this event and will we see more in the future?
Yeah its totally going to be a lot of fun meeting everyone. I think there's a lot of out of state gamers coming in but I know St. Louis is a pretty good location for SC2 gamers.
Elevengaming was started by Domino. He actually also played another game I believe called APB or something that was free online but ended up falling through. He had his own clan for that game but decided to start a SC2 gaming team after that game failed. The convo was pretty much like:
Domino: sup bro Nizzy: fucking love you dawg Domino: what you doing? Nizzy: playing some 4s RT Domino: Oh thats cool wanna start a solo gaming team with me Nizzy: lols k
I have no plans on competing but I will probably head out and watch with Goaty. As a fellow Missourian it's nice to see things finally happening in the midwest though. Maybe I will consider it next time.
The hotel called me today and said they only had a few rooms left. If you waited til the last minute, there are literally 3-4 rooms left, so if you're planning on sleeping at any point, get a room ASAP!

MaMe is lucky. Binski wanted revenge but isn't able to come T_T. By the way Antimage has been talking it sounds like hes the best gamer in NA and already has a flight booked for Korea. So I'm picking him to win the main event.

Ill take LAN wins and modesty over trash talking .
Not sure if I'll be able to show up or not, but I'll let you know if I can. I'm waiting for my computer to ship up from florida, since it has my NA account SC2 on it, I only have my EU account installed here.
This sucks, was planning on going to this but 2 of my teachers changed the date of tests so I have one on Friday at 3pm and 2 now on Monday morning. So I'm not going to be able to go anymore considering the 10 hour drive. What's the best way to remove myself from the pre-registration? Still hoping to watch any stream that'll be available and wish you guys the best with the tournament! It sounds like a lot of fun.

Those of you in St. Louis or surrounding areas who want to attend: be sure to spread the word! The bigger this is - the more coverage it gets - the bigger and more interesting future events will be. See you there.
What is happening on Sunday and at what times, cuz I'm not going to be able to come on friday or saturday, but I figured I'd stop in on sunday for a bit.

I don't know anything about this... where did you hear they were going to be there?
Double posting to say that I still would like a roommate if anybody wants to split. I haven't reserved a room yet, so if you've already reserved a room, not a problem. If you haven't either, let me know, I'd definitely be willing to book it and split costs. Shoot me a PM. I'm not planning on being loud, drunk, or obnoxious!
Just wanted to say that after a scare this morning with the internet, we're just about done setting up (been here for 12 hours today!). Doors open in 30 minutes, and CatsPajamas will probably be streaming some early showmatches and doing interviews around 10EST. Looking forward to a great next three days, and hope everyone enjoys themselves.
Congrats to BlueTea, who with some fantastic FFA play, has won the first MWC event: The Battle Royale! She played great games and was very smart strategically!

Such fun games to watch. Great strategy indeed. Bluetea always moved out and attacked at the correct time. Great casting by our casters!

No charge to come and spectate however we do have semi-limited space and at this point we have no idea how big the main event will be. We know there are people that haven't made it in yet.
CatsPajamas are lead caster will be set up in the lobby of the hotel tomorrow and there is a big screen TV at least 40+ inches set up of him casting. You can definitely come up and walk around and meet some people just check in at the door to get an appropriate wrist band.
The main event will start in a few hours, and I'm sure I'll be busy, so I thought I'd take the time to post these. Some pictures from setup and festivities. All-in-all, 41 people came out to play last night. We expect that number to double or more for todays festivities:
Setup is finally done!
Just before we opened
Some of the prize pool
The first people setting up
More people getting set up and the pizza arriving
One of the two side rooms all set up
BlueTea is the last woman standing, and takes home a BigFootNetworks Killer2100 Gaming Card, a ThermalTake "Dasher" Mousepad and a Razer Lachesis Mouse, as the winner of the Battle Royale
Just giving you guys an update, we are checking in for the event now and should be starting soon, catspajamas should start his stream relatively shortly at http://www.justin.tv/catspajamassc2

Great run RSVP. Well deserved. I hope you plan to attend future events! And it was nice meeting you!
That goes for everyone who attended as well, thanks for coming out. It was a blast yet again meeting fellow Sc2 players in person at a live tournament. The experience is like no other when these things happen. Please to continue to support local events - and if you're up to it like some of these guys, travel to compete!
I would just like to say thanks to xi for hosting this LAN. This was such an amazing event and it didn't matter who you were, nobody treated you bad. I was able to leave my computer hooked up both nights and nothing was taken, and I know many others did the same. I've never met so many awesome gamers who trusted each other to and were all open to talking to each other.
People like destiny, RSVP, antimage and alll the other big names were really nice, and especially destiny and maMe who were giving tips to a lot of people, also to Telephone who taught me how to analyze a replay better. This was such an amazing event and I hope to meet all of you guys again!
Thanks again Domino and Crew, you guys were awesome and I can't wait to see you guys again!
Here are just a few photos I took from the event. The camera I was using was pretty crappy, but someone is sending me much better ones later tonight. Tons of fun. Also! Interviews with the final four and the two from the highlight of the day... simply labeled "The Most Epic Game Evar" (between Kencorp and Hunger) will be posted soon as well.
Some of the XI Gaming members.
Team Complexity... and That Guy?
The Cats Pajamas and his epic beard. It would seem I caught DoA Starcraft by surprise there!
Oh gawd... Me with Beast. And no, bitches DON'T know about his additional pylons!
Mr. Epic Games himself, epid|Kencorp (bringing back... the fonz?)
Only one word can describe this man. Baller
Will post up more once the rest are sent to me. Thanks! (Also you'll be able to check out an extended photo gallery on z33k.com soon)
It was a great event and I'm glad I traveled with Goaty to check it out. I wasn't quite sure how it was going to turn out but I will say I plan to compete in the next one instead of just spectating. Props to Elevengaming and all the other sponsors.
Fantastic event, guys. An absolute pleasure to cast the event. I'll have VOD's going up very soon! Congrats again to rsvp and Slurgi!
Great to meet the whole xi clan (binski, wtf?), Destiny, Antimage, rsvp, Bluetea, Idrone, TriMaster, how, Telephone, and anyone else I forgot. Oh, and special shoutout to Doa, was a fantastic time casting with him.
Thanks to all who came out. After I get some rest, we will be working on the mwc website, and changing layout from a format for an upcoming tournament, to have pictures (we have lots), the video interviews, results, and my personal final thoughts. I hope whether you came or not, you'll take the time to check out the website around 24 hours from now.
Thanks again. Too tired to talk about more right now, but I will soon. Safe travel home everyone.
Congrats to RSVP! He's a very solid player and knocked me out of the winners bracket. His 3-game series with xiLost were some of the most entertaining PVZ's I've seen in some time.
Best quote from the casters: " Yo dawg, I heard you like bases, so I build a base in your base "
As soon as I met rsvp I could not stop thinking how much he looked like this guy:
