Hey, diejule, you should edit this quote from Nazgul into the OP, imo.
On October 30 2010 15:47 Liquid`Nazgul wrote: Stay away from this topic if you disagree with the tournament, you're ruining a nice initiative.
Females are looking for a place where they can play together, just like there are tournaments for Dutch, Germans, Swedes and whatnot that others can't join. It's not necessarily about not being good enough to join international tournaments but moreso about building a community and events around a certain type of people, in this case females.
It may prevent this topic from becoming the horrible debate topic that the other one turned into, and we could actually have a thread where we enjoyed the tournament (or maybe I'm just being too optimistic).
Good luck with your tournament, and thank you for doing this!

I think it suppose to start around 8 or so. That's the usual time for most of the cups on ESL.

Is it? According to their tournament page, the checkin info states that the cup begins at 2 o' clock on Nov 16. Although at various other pages, it also states Nov 15 as the tournament date.. someone needs to fix that up.

User was warned for this post What? Why was he warned for this post? Look on the previous page and you'd see this warning from Nazgul, quoted from the last "female tournament" thread:
On October 30 2010 15:47 Liquid`Nazgul wrote: Stay away from this topic if you disagree with the tournament, you're ruining a nice initiative.
Females are looking for a place where they can play together, just like there are tournaments for Dutch, Germans, Swedes and whatnot that others can't join. It's not necessarily about not being good enough to join international tournaments but moreso about building a community and events around a certain type of people, in this case females. He's completely right; the tournament's thread is not the proper venue to post simply to object to the tournament. Here we have an OP that is trying to do something nice for a certain SC2 community and people are posting just to complain? I don't care whether his argument is valid; it doesn't belong in this thread.
On November 10 2010 06:03 TL.net Bot wrote: Widar was just warned by JWD.
Don't post in someone's tournament thread just to complain about the tournament. Just be thankful that SC2 is getting as much love as it is. Contributors and tourney organizers deserve respect.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation, The Mod Staff This thread is not for debating the merits of this tournament. Do not post here with objections or even concerns. You will be banned.

I think Tossgirl should switch to SC2 and take the opportunity to become a notable player once again. She can at least get the #1 female player spot that she had (and probably still has) in SC1 and apply it to SC2 instead of being laughed at as "that one girl on STX who fails."
Nice league, grats Pikachu.

Registration link is broken for ESL SC2 Female Cup #1
|
I think anything that lets the ladies game without me and other guys drooling all over them is a good thing.
Also, if enough of them get good enough to compete in the large tournaments, that would mean more and different sponsors looking t oget into SC2. Anything that can bring in more $$$ to SC2 is a good thing.
Females Hwaiting!!!
|
I wonder why we dont see more female gamers in the professional scene. It goes without saying that they have the same capacity to be high level gamers as males do, but you hardly ever see them taken seriously. Really makes me wonder if Pikachu can work past the social constraints and become the "next online gaming champion and the pride of Taiwan online" as she wishes. Best of luck to her though!

I was pretty disappointed at the level of the play I saw, was kinda expecting more seeing as its an ESL tournament. Sure you can say it's for fun and all, but most of these players don't seem to know what to do at all. I mean you could at least prepare a little and watch some day9 dailies or replays to get a general idea of a good build and how to play.

I'm sure they will take your advice into consideration and improve their gameplay to meet your viewing pleasure, instead of playing the way they want to.

youre right, they should be very serious about an online videogame tournament that is for fun. they shouldn't even compete if theyre not willing to put in effort to play it "right."
glad they have you to set them straight.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't compete if they aren't at a certain level or that they have to take the tournament seriously, I can completely understand competing in it purely for fun. However, with that said I'm just disappointed when I see that at least 80% players don't seem to know what they're doing. I could understand being limited by APM or struggling with macro, but a lot of the players just don't know a good build order to open with or how the mid to late game should look. Maybe it's just me but if I entered any kind of tournament (especially with around 1000 spectators) i'd play to win.
|
Anytime anything is publicly displayed, it is subject to criticism and that criticism should be expected, especially when it's got around 1000 spectators. That being said, I have no issue with just keeping my mouth shut and letting people enjoy playing video games for fun, even in a tournament setting.
However, when the tournament starts getting attention as an International Championship and the Taiwanese news interviews the winner and people start saying 'She's a 1 rank diamond, she must be good,' you do expect some form of higher quality play. It's just a contrasting image of what is presented of the tourney and the actual content. Now, that isn't ESL's fault at all because they can't control what is said about their tournament or if someone wants to overhype it. If all the competitors and the runners of the tournament look at it as a way to just foster a female community, then leave it be. I won't praise the winners of said tournament, but I'll let them be because while I may not get anything out of the tournament as a spectator and because of how I view the game, other people do get something out of it. Now, if someone is being praised as an amazing player and I think their play is mediocre, yes, they are subject to critique.
What I'm hoping is by having a tournament for females, this will foster competition between them and as a result of trying to be better than the girls around them, the quality of their play will increase.

On www.esl.eu/eu/sc2 and on www.nationalesl.com you can play in the female choice cups and go4sc2 tournaments. In all of these tournaments there are also women playing. For the cups on ESL.eu you need an EU Bnet account. For National ESL you need an US Bnet account. If you have more questions PM me.
The next US Cup Female 1v1 is on 14th of December - The next Go4SC2 Cup in the US is on December 12th

I'm sorry but the commentary on this event was sub par =\ The caster could have done so much better to not get confused, and not to miss crucial things like a proxy pylon in game 2, and trying to explain scouting timings in game 3 but failing miserably..

the next Female Cup is being planned, go to www.esl.eu/eu/female to vote for a date in April, we gave you three options you can choose from! HF girls! <3 =)

HF girls! <3 =) This announcement deserves its own thread. It's great to hear these are starting up again, they seem like a great way to get more female players into tournament play.
