Wow I will be so disappointed if David Kim was eliminated. He's probably the top Random player in the world.

In general I think it would be better for GSL's business to automatically seed big names like Moon, etc, but thats a trade off with giving other unknown players a chance I guess. And part of the point of SC2 is a 'fresh' start and level playing field for everyone.

Right. The idea of the first three tournaments is to be completely open. GOM will move into a more normal seeding system after GSL 3.

I don't understand why people that are "big names" should get seeded into anything. If they can't even qualify for ro64, I sure as hell don't want to watch them play because they won't be showing me anything special. I'm going to be more entertained by a completely unknown if they have better talents.

So if a player gets cheesed out of a tournament, they are automatically terrible? They are big names for a good reason. We can basically assume Moon will eventually be a very good if not great player. He has great APM, multitask, macro, game-sense, etc. Those are basic things that WILL carry over to any RTS game he plays. Plus he's fairly good under pressure evidenced by his rather giant trophy case. Main thing is it will draw big ratings. TLO was pretty thoroughly outplayed most of series that he lost, but it was one of the most entertaining ones that were seen in the whole GSL.

"Big Names" overall will have better skill and be more fun to watch. In this style tournament it is possible for a more skilled player to lose to a cheese build or timing push. If you look at Polt from last season he made it far because he had really well thought out timing attacks, but if it went into a longer game he started to fall apart.
