Starcraft II sold over 1 million copies within the first 24 hours of release and has already topped 3 million sales worldwide. The audience still continues to grow and the game's fan base is spreading rapidly across every city like Zerg Creep.
We understand the huge demand for a tournament, so to reward all of Starcraft II's dedicated supportive fans, gamerbase, in collaboration with Western Digital, SCAN and Dennis Publishing, are proud to announce our very own Starcraft II tournament with an amazing prize pool of over £2000!
The initial 128 player stage of the event will be held online, where the top 32 qualifying players will receive an invitation to a live LAN final held in our gamerbase Trocadero supercentre in London, equipped with brand new Scan Computers!
The finals will also be live streamed with a special guest shoutcaster from Team Dignitas!
The tournament will be capped at 128 entrants who will have to compete in an online qualifier in order to advance. The online qualifiers will take place over the 16th and 17th of October.
The final 32 players will qualify for the final stages of the tournament, to be held in gamerbase Trocadero, London (click to see location / map) on Friday 29th of October.
Both stages of the tournament will be best of 3 games in a single elimination format where the initial map will be chosen by administration and all subsequent maps will be the loser’s choice.
Registration will close on the 14th of October and brackets will be generated the next day.
The online qualifiers will require players to add their opponent using Battle.net's RealID (as they will already have submitted their Battle.net usernames and buddy codes on gamerbase.com), and the winner must submit the results.
This will continue until the player reaches the reach last 32, and they will be invited to attend the live finals in London. Players must ensure that they are able to attend the finals on Friday 29th of October before signing up for the event!

Many thanks for the post Apollo. There are still a few tweaks to make to the registration process, and a couple of more details to add to the online section of this tournament, these should all be complete tomorrow.
First off, I'd like to introduce myself, I'm chris aka smile - I run gamerbase Manchester and i'm fanatical about Starcraft 2. Gamerbase is dedicated to pushing as many resources as possible into this fantastic game to deliver great tournaments and events, as well as try to build up a strong competitive community throughout our 5 fantastic gaming centres (London, Manchester, Glasgow, Reading and Edinburgh).
If you have any suggestions or advice we would be eager to listen and take them on board, We're hopefully going to be bringing a lot more tournaments with great cash prizes to the UK. I love TL, this site has been my number one resource for info whilst i've been getting better, and the community here is incredible
I'm still a lowly silver division player, but if anyone wants a game - please add me up!
[name] smile [code] 388
Looking forward to hearing some feedback about the tournament, remember it's open to anyone to sign up, there will be some confirmation emails sent out shortly - so don't be put off by entering, we love the idea that you could get matched up against a top player in one of our tournaments
woot. super excited about this

The OP implies a certain Dignitas commentator - most likely dApollo.
|
was at work when i posted, didnt have a fantastic opportunity to read the OP properly
d.Apollo is doing wonders for the UK scene, has my total respect!
|
Awesome! See you people there

Many thanks for the registrations so far, I will be sending out a confirmation email on wednesday for those taking part, and for those added after that with some more details of the schedule of games.
Still plenty of spaces for those looking to take part :-)

Is this still happening? I haven't got any confirmation e-mail yet, and registration seems to still be open even though it should have closed yesterday. I can't find a thread about it in their forums either.

I wonder why we arent getting any response or confirmation email :S gamerbase smile played about 11 1v1 games on sc2 last night, according to the account he gave, so he's certainly still alive. I will continue to check this thread/email every hour I guess :/
|
Fairly worried, maybe they are reconsidering because of the amount of signups?
|
A bit disappointed about how little advertising this event got, if i was gamerbase I'd push it backa week and get it advertised, i'm fans of gamerbase manchester on facebook and this is the first I;ve heard about this tournament 24hours AFTER the closing date. I visit TL daily (many times) and this is the first time the threads been nearish the top.
Kinda gutted not got chance to enter now, just wish it was posted around more, on more sites and esp on facebook via all gamerbase locations.
Bit like the CSS lan was done, that worked out excellent with all 4 centres (bar glasgow) ended up full or near full and had an awesome competition :D
Keep meaning to come down to saturday SC tournaments though, are they still running chris?
Ninja edit- Apparently still letting people signup :D *Sneakily signs on*
|
Apologies for the delay, there was an issue extracting emails from the signups... that's all sorted now - so a confirmation email has been distributed this morning
Theres a few things we need from players still regarding bnet names/codes etc, if you could get back to us on that - that would be awesome.
And yeah, we've extended the sign ups a few extra days. I guess in terms of advertising - we've used our website which doesn't get a lot of SC2 related traffic, and seeing as it's our first event we're not really sure where to target - this website is an obvious choice since i've been lurking on here forever ^_^ so there's definately lessons to be learned, and hopefully some sponsorship deals we can figure out with TL.net in the future to gain some more exposure for what we're doing.
:-)
<3 TL
|
Smile,
Why are BNet emails needed for Real ID? I see a reference to it but no satisfactory answer in the GamerBase quote from Apollo's OP, nor has my email got a response. You can just as easily add people using a name and code that is already up on the site and there is zero need for emails as far as I can see.
|
Could be an idea to get Apollo to update first post so people know they can still signup 'till morning and hopefully get a few more people entered :D
Cya all at london!
|
I would of signed up to this had I known about it
Just found this thread today and im on TL everyday.
|
Adrenal,
The main reason I asked for Real ID email addresses was because we've had some issues in our local trial tournaments with foreign players using unique characters in their battlenet names, so we couldn't add them using their character name and code, the emails are entirely optional and the new email states this.
However we do require a contact email to contact registered members, whether this is their email for battlenet i'm not sure, but it's not for that - nor will real id emails be posted anywhere except on the admin pc for organising the event.
And yup, that would be neat Apollo if you're reading - also mention the 2 grand ^_^
Leviathan, sign ups are still open - go for it

Brackets are out, looks like I might be playing pureball in the ro32!
|
|
And i'm out :x so close as well!
First game, failed just epicly. 2nd game, 3 rax defended his early push easily, counter pushed and won 3rd game, 25minute base trades xD Tiring! But lost =(
|
Are ther a lot of people there? Considering going and having a look?
|
Btw can we please update the map pool for the current ladder maps when this happens? (Desert Oasis, Kulas Ravine out. Shakuras Plateau, Jungle Basin in)

Yep,indeed.
I won my game 2-0 where i am able to report?
|
I really wish this was publicised better, then I could have played in the online tourny, I'm still considering going, because I really want more LAN events in this country, but I'm not living in London right now, its quite some distance to go purely to watch other people play .

Just did so.

Many thanks to all the players who have taken part so far, we're practically down to our final 32 now (just 1 more match to go) so congratulations to those who have progressed to the live final!
I'll be sending out an email in the next few with some more details to how the finals will run, times to arrive, equiptment specs etc - so keep an eye out for that
My apologies to those who missed the announcement for this tournament. In all honesty, we're new to the SC/SC2 communities and don't really know how to let people know, an obvious choice is team liquid as its by far the best community i've found - and I lurk on these forums daily. So hopefully next time we can spread the word a little further and work something out to get it featured on here, because we'll be running a host of similar events/series in the near future
Woot! Really looking forward to the finals now! Apollo handling the stream will be epic - and some really REALLY good players have qualified! There will be spectators allowed for those who want to come down, we'll get some tv's rigged up etc for the crowd - hopefully we don't have the HuK vs IdrA situation with 'MOTHERSHIP MOTHERSHIP ... ' - although that would be cool ^_^
So all in all, bare with us - we're new to this but we're commited, any feedback advice will definately be taken on board, the map pool will reflect the new ladder maps for the finals so don't worry about that, but let us know
|
Really looking forward to seeing you all there! Just gotta book transport from Edinburgh now and find a place to sleep for the night. Any plans for anything after the lan??
|
Yeah same for me... really looking forward to see some nice guys!
+ any plans after the Lan because airplane goes back really early next day :D^^ and not pssoible in the evening. Maybe a "free" place to sleep would be cool to^^.
And i hope the emails go out next 1-2 days, because i need to plan some stuff.

Darn, I would go to spectate but alas I'm going to London the next day and can't really afford two trips. I'm only in Essex but I'll be spending alot of money the next day.
|
damn it, i missed out on this. oh well, i don't think i could have gotten very far, haven't been playing much. would have given me an excuse to go visit friends at uni though
|
I would have loved to enter this if I had spotted in time - hoping it will become a regular!
|
I will be arriving Thursday ready for the tournament Friday ^.^
|
You could have online qualifiers then regional minitournaments at each of the other gamerbase places, then the top X from each region go to london for the final round of 32 or whatever.

Have you got a time-frame for Friday yet? Like, expected start time, finals start time and so on. I'd like to go to meet some players, grab some food or something but there's nothing about when it'll start. I have to work at an awkward time so I'd like to know if it's worth going before or after work.
|
This is cool, I would like to know the start time too since I work nearby. I would have liked to have entered but 1. I just read about this. 2. I'm nowhere near good enough (a lowly Silver league player)
I thought I would be way better by now, but unfortunately I'm still swimming with the other bottom feeders T.T
|
just to update, I'm just waiting on a few more details for the finals - I'd expect a time frame of around 2pm - 8pm, there will be quite a bit of other activity at our gamerbase in the trocadero on that day, with our brand new spec PC's, and displays from Scan, Western Digital and dennis publishing - it will be an awesome day
I'll be coming down from Manchester on the day to run things, and probably heading out for food/bars afterwards for those in London for the evening
Hopefully have all the details ironed out for tomorrow, hopefully the gap between the qualifiers and the finals is enough for people to make suitable travel arrangements - that was the intention anyway. With this being our first SC2 event, we've still got lots to learn

Yeah the timeframe is brill, not too long but long enough to order cheap train tickets and book it off work ^_^
Whats happening about computers? Do we get guest pass or...?
Also a few housemates of mine might be coming down, they live for casual games they won't need to book computers out right?

Yo I was Dei/Jeliy in your 4 Beta tourneys.
See you down London!

I'll be going to this^^ got to support the UK scene
gl to everyone in the brackets.

I'm in need of a hotel room thats very close to the lan. i'm from belgium. Anybody has some recommendations ? Or maybe i could stay with any of u guys for a fee . Also lookin to go out in londen or whatever the friday night .
|
Other then midian, I didn't even know people in the UK played sc or sc2, almost every other european country has had a league, team, or tournament I've followed yet the UK was always conspicuously absent. It's nice to see that sc2 is somewhat organized in the uk and not merely a fringe activity for a handful of die hard fans.
The British are invading!
|
@ zion,
we will rule the night! :D
|
How come this tournament isn't featured yet in the calender ? You guys should apply to do this if u want alot of viewers!

Yeah ... gogo for calender!!

To anyone going, what are you plans for pre-tournament and whatnot?
The venue is right near Bodeans, the awesome BBQ place on Poland Street and I was thinking of getting something sorted out for before the event, even if it's just getting a sandwich and sitting outside. It's still an awkward time for me but I'm going to come up until about 4pm and come back in the evening (provided stuff is happening around 10pm).
I'm trying to drag some of the UK players up there before-hand so do you part and poke them. If you're interested just post in this thread and we'll arrange something.

I'm getting a train down on the Thursday afternoon/evening to stay with some friends outside of London. I'll probably head in early on the Friday morning and get some practice on the Gamerbase PCs, so that's where I'll be. No plans for lunch yet, but I'll be heading out of London as soon as the tournament finishes on the Friday.
EDIT: You'll probably recognise me quite quickly as I will be coughing my guts up.

|
Dapollo make sure to tell pureball that I couldnt make it, im not sure if he checked this thread.
|
The SC2 admin is about to go and do an official headcount to see whos here from the online bracket, the bracket should will be updated and posted here before the tournament starts ^.^ For the players that couldnt make it/dropped out in the last second will have players to fill in, backup players from the online qualifiers.
|
|
Is this gonna be streamed?
|
It will be, but the event hasnt started yet. Give it time!
|
Stream isnt working, admins trying to fix as we speak... Players all ready just waiting for the stream before it starts
|
The issue is that there is flickering on the stream and that ingame sounds cannot be heard, they are trying to fix so that the stream is decent before broadcasting out the games... They are also trying to use a livestream account to bypass the problem.. will update
|
no surprise there.. I don't think I've ever been to or watched a UK lan that actually went even remotely smoothly.
|
Its not a tournament if everything runs smooth! Something HAS to go wrong
Will be watching this all day ^.^ hoping to see some epic games!

Btw looks like easy money for Sjow. :D At least he is the big favorite. Maybe Bischu is his biggest rival here. Pureball and Fazinate are not bad either.
|
heh standard... First match on the stream will be dignitasSjow vs Phalli, first game of the 32player bracket. Map will be metaloplis, best of 3, loser decides.
they are saying they will start within 5-10mins, but you know, tourny admins =P
|
Ok thanks, I am sure the stream will be up and great :D Thanks for this

SJOW VS LAU(old wc3 player)
Lau beat ZionLLL in the semi, ZionLLL knockedand Pureball, so should be good final!! TVT

Amazing tournament! Everything was excellent. It would be great if more similar tournaments are hosted throughout the UK .

I loved the fact that Rocky Lauboa got to the final and Sjow, the blind terran, didn't lose a single round even without scouting, continuing the domination from dsrack! Highlight for me was when they made the wow players leave the centre so the sc2 games could get more bandwidth p.s Smile, great job organising it and was nice to chat to you during the final, look forward to playing in the next one.

Yea the event was pretty good. Glad i went down there, crept into a couple of the pictures too! The internet issues were unfortunate the second time sjow's computer dc'd i thought lau was in a pretty good position. It would have been cool if there was a way to make it more spectator friendly but difficult in a small location like that, even just having the brackets up on the wall would have been cool. I guess they wouldnt want to encourage too many spectators i could see that place getting cramped fast! Cant remember who i was talking to, but they mentioned an event next april i think it was, in excel which apparently is going to have seating and a big screen and most importantly.... a bar!

It was a bit spectator unfriendly, I ended up just logging in and watching the stream to listen to commentary. Smile was saying that they are hoping to expand the trocoderro store to have over 8,000 square feet with an awesome stage and pods hopefully, really look forward to that!

Really great fun, pity I was coughing so much on the day - I'd probably have enjoyed it twice as much! Sadly not something I could do regularly though, as I'm not made of money and totting up the total cost for the trip was not easy on the eyes for a Newcastle boy. Still, good to see big-prize tournaments like this being organised and drawing the some top EU and UK players in.
Also was nice to meet TarQeS, rANDY, Stone and the members of my team who showed up. I think that was probably worth the trip anyway.
Final thank you to my team captain Deranging who saved me from having to use a G15 all day because my keyboard didn't fit in my bag. <3

Wow.
What an awesome day! Many thanks to all the players that came down for the finals - I know it wasn't easy for some of you guys to travel (myself included coming down from Manchester to run the event) but I hope you had a great day here in gamerbase!
There were lessons which we've learned, some of which were a real drag on the day but we tried our best to rectify them when they became problems. These were mainly down to our internet connections and/or battle net issues - which were kind of out of our control. I'm still confused as to why random drops were happening as I haven't seen this happen before in my centre in Manchester or from London - perhaps our ADSL provider was tinkering with the lines or something, I have no idea. We're currently looking into installing leased lines to all our centres, so that should never happen again - and with a 10/10mbps connection we could run a kick ass HD stream and we should have our new centre open in London for the new year, which is MASSIVE! and contains a dedicated event stage with projectors etc, I'm looking forward to what we could do with a venue like that
So. Thanks once again for attending, congratulations to the winners - especially gamerbase regular Lau who played superbly! The winners were:
1st SjoW = £1000 2nd Lau = £500 3rd ZionLLL = £200 4th BlinG = £100
5th RememberMe = £50 5th TarQueS = £50 5th Gomas = £50 5th RazerBlader = £50
A pretty cool prize spread for our first event, this will get bigger as we gain experience running these events and pulling in some huge sponsors, because this game and this community deserves it
Also... HUGE THANKS to dignitas/Apollo, and the rest of the dignitas team - who were a constant help thoughout the day. Shaun did an amazing job on the stream and really made it special - thank you for all your help, I hope we can work together again soon!
Wooo! so happy it ran well and we finished on time
