************************************************************************************************************** Final Update: Replays and VODs from this: Starcraft Gaming League - Team EG vs ROOT Gaming (Yay!)
Replays are up here: Link (The 7 most recent/under the event "SGL - ROOT vs EG" Game 4 between Axslav and SLush is highly recommended!
VOD is up here: Link (something weird happened with game 1 in the VOD so that game is not there) **************************************************************************************************************
When you think of some of the best and most prominent Starcraft 2 clans today, Team EG and ROOT Gaming are definitely two teams not far from the top of that list. Well on Tuesday, October 5th at 9:00PM EDT (6:00PM Pacific) these two clans will be facing off in SGL's Starcraft 2 clan league. Winner's League elimination style, first team to take 4 wins takes the series.
Apart from these two teams' star studded rosters: EG: iNcontroL, iNkA, LzGaMeR, Machine, axslav, and the recently joined idrA. ROOT: Sheth, drewbie, CauthonLuck, KiwiKaKi, qxc, these two teams interestingly have two completely different generations of Starcraft gamers.
Team EG is comprised of old school Starcraft gamers who have made names for themselves back in the days of Broodwar and have made the successful transition into Starcraft 2, while ROOT Gaming consists of newer players to the Starcraft pro scene who exploded into the spotlight during the beta phase of Starcraft 2.
Will the old guards from the days of Broodwar claim dominance over the newer kids on the block here in Starcraft 2? Or will the newer generation of Starcraft gamers leave the older guys in the dust?
[Update] Starting map: Jungle Basin
Watch the series unfold on Tuesday, October 5th at 9:00PM EST (6:00PM PST) on the GosuGamers' streaming channel.
[Update #2] Everyone's favorite Gretorp! is going to be in the house, casting this.

I'll reserve this post. Should be good a clan match. Although most of the players have been busy :/ Machine + iNkA WCG and iNc at his pageant.
Follow EG Twitter for updates on this match.

Rooting for ROOT! :D Hope all the games are very good though.

I'll definitely tune in for this. Need more of these kinds of things.

the teams/players vote on the maps i believe, and the roster hasnt been submitted by the teams yet from what I know.
|
kiwikaki vs idra would be epic, looks like some great matches are coming up!
|
Line-ups will be submitted 30 minutes before the match. There is a starting map and losers' pick.

ahh because of the delay? well it would've been more fun with him but you cant always get what you want i guess.

I think idra has to be submitted on the team roster during the signups for that clan league, which he isn't. Plus I doubt he's a fan of playing in cross-world lag lol.
Hoping EG can take this one, but roots lineup is quite solid. GLHF
|
EGs team is full of merited players...from SC:BW, they've showed underwhelming results in SC2 while ROOT is pretty much a top contender for best sc2 team outside of korea.
Root all the way..assuming Idra wont play.
My heart will always be with EG though, Incontrol for the win.
|
full roster or is it a 4 players from each team clan war?
|
I think its like winners league first to 4 wins? Not entirely sure if this is the same clan league.
But at least EG got 1st place (Axslav) and 3rd place (LZ) at yesterday's vT gaming open :o

so many power houses! dont know who to cheer for, glhf to both teams!

clearly you dont know his wc3 past, axslav was severely overrated for a very long time (by myself included ^^)

I think ROOT is going to take this one if it's not in the format of winner plays next round. ROOT seems to have the more solid lineup, especially with Kiwikaki and qxc.
Cheering for EG though.

most ingenious, but with 130 APM you can only do so much..he used to get absolutely destroyed in most of his games, everyone knew who he was, from Sky to Grubby....He was my favourite American forever, even before he blew up for beating Sky. After that happened he became over rated, people used to pick him to win LAN events and such, when clearly LongWalk is a much better player than him. If you watched as many Axslav games as me, ive watched everything out there in the past 4 years, you'd understand my point. He is a nice person, and a great player, but there is a reason he tries to avoid mirror matches, and his strength lies in 2v2, and thats because he is a meta game player.
|
You people are severely underrating some of the players. Axslav is hands down EG's best protoss. For ROOT, suggy is getting pretty damn solid and slush/catz are both showing the QQ'ers that zerg is amazing in the right hands. On top of that, ROOT has drewbie, qxc, sheth, cauthon and kiwikaki. Honestly, I don't think EG has much of chance. Go ROOT!
|
|
I feel like I have to give this to ROOT if Idra isn't playing. Sorry EG.

I remember back in the day when I saw one of his games for the first time I was instantly hooked. It was by far the most entertaining, unique, and well executed strategy I had seen and he pulled it off with about 95 APM in that game I believe. He became my fav player immediately.
Regarding mirror matches though, have you seen his PvP vs HuK I believe where he clearly gets outnumbered in Collossi and grabs a Mothership and wins? It was pure Axslavness.

Lol and wow that pic of fruit and idra roflmao.

Guys EG's League roster is:
LzGaMeR Axslav StrifeCro iNkA Machine iNcontroL Due to timezone differences, time and the latency it's difficult for Idra to play.

Looking forward to this later, EG Fighting!!!

Nooo Idra's not playing

i dont understand why people think EG will win. Idra won't play. He recently complained that the connection to NA server is as bad as to EU server...
And CauthonLuck, KiwiKaKi, qxc (random order) will tear through EG lineup.

Yeah, esp since most ROOT members have also been training for IEM, MLG, and most importantly, Nexus Word Wars. I suspect if EG will take any games, it will be with Axslav or Lz.

Talking too much WC3. He has low APM in SC2 also but he could be the best player on EG outside of Idra. I don't know what you mean in mirrors but his PvP is also pretty f'ing good in SC2.

I don't think you're using the term execution correctly. Just because he has low APM might hinder him in some ways but his execution is crisp, his build orders are very strong and refined and he's great at adapting mid game.

EG has their share of hot players too.

How is he underrated then if you claim he is quite possibly the best person in EG? and WC3 talk is a must considering that is where he gained notarization, as proven in this thread Axslav is only underrated by BW players, since every wc3 fan knows full well of who he is, and what he is able to accomplish. And no i didnt use execution wrong, unless of course you think HuK has worse execution than Axslav. You're getting awfully nit picky for me saying that Axslav is not underrated.

rS vs EG week 1 (4-2) Win rS vs Root week 2 (2-4) Loss
Both teams have some amazing talent and depending on who shows (always key) and who has a great night the match could really go either way. Don't think IdrA is playing with EG in this North American league, he is not part of their roster.

rofl ... EG dont stand a chance ...
|
^ He will not play. I don't think he would want to wake up 9:00AM in the morning to play laggy games either.
|
with axslav, EG might have a chance now. If idrA plays... ohhh my god.... 20k viewers atleast... they would won
gretorp is streaming!! the best analysis from a streamer!!!

Kay, figured one would be on 2, just was wondering which. Thanks.

why the fuck was kiwikaki allowed to obs when we all got kicked?
|
hoping for some good games this series ^^
|
who are these random people I see obsing? They are chit chatting away in obs chat so they are obviously not casting. Who are they?
|
Admins don't really know what they are doing? O.o
Edit - Random talking in spectate too is annoying
|

Why is everyone joining anyways. My understanding is no obs.........
|
lol, was there suppose to be co-casters? Gretorp is hardwired to solo cast. Other guy can't even get a word in lol.

It's a team war. In a team war, the team generally observes.

ok so if your understanding is "no obs" then why was fayth/kiwi in there? hence my question...

When it's widely avaliable on multiple streams? That's just plain rude to the players imo

Oh I agree. Just asking why everyone is even joining when SGL has a no obs rule. Like don't join, go watch the stream, ezpz.
|
i wish idra was playing! but the korean - Us ping is horrible = /
|
The rule is no OBS, because ICCup perfers it, and so does Gosugamer (atleast thats what GnR told me) kiwi got in there by accident ( so i was told)
|

Really any event streamed ever should have this rule. Having obs in a streamed game is just silly and plain being greedy.
|
I agree, its annoying when teams talk on obs, because for some reason Blizzard decided it was smart to put the obs chat in the middle of the game -.- if it was like wc3 or WoW on the left side above the minimap it would probably be more bearable.
|
imagine SPL who got every team member obsing a game
|
Is it just me or is the starcraft 2 showmatch/tournament scene in need of a general communications expert/mediator?
I'm not knocking on this event in particular, as it is friggen awesome, but most events could be smoothed out quite a bit. Bnet 2.0 issues dont help, but basic online organizational skills could really really help a lot of people trying to admin tournaments.
As someone who spent 6 years managing 40/25 person raids in world of warcraft (WoW is lawl, I know, but the management side of guilds was not as faceroll as the rest of the game), I cringe when i see nonchalant disorganization.
|
I don't want to sound like a complainer but it's so annoying when people, not even the hosts of this event but the two teams, can't get their shit together. I don't want to watch as people get kicked then rejoin, because they're stupid, only to get kicked again. It seems like every tourney has these problems of mass disorganization and I imagine that running something like this could be difficult, but I'd assume aside from the initial scheduling and no-shows there shouldn't be too many problems.
It's taking forever to get these games started. Kind of annoying.

axslav doing 1 gate FE robo -> observer first
and not getting killed
I can't think of a more unsafe build (but maybe QXC's build made him feel safe after scouting).
|
Man, I really liked Axslav's attack on that expo on the left with the forcefields vs. Slush. It couldn't have been done any better and seems to have turned the momentum of the game to his favor.
|
axslave is playing really well
|
Really solid play from both players. Fun game. Would recommend :D.
|
I'm surprised Slush won without spreading any creep at all.
|
that last game was absolutely amazing
|
Just started watching halfway through the game but Axslav vs Slush was pretty nice. Axslav's use of dt's was reminiscent of bw PvZ and Slush's burrowed movement to go past forcefields was well done.

I dunno about the pure roach play from Slush... I think Slush could have pushed hive a lot sooner and ended with hive tech...and some spore crawlers
|
Once he had any sort of agression with the roaches he had to reinforce and didn't really have the income for hive tech.
|
Lol, just watch the frigging ramp :D
|
lol status on the ramp block
It's only funny because it happens to me a lot.
|
Usually a great build but a few mistakes from incontrol. He really should of fully walled off his main ent... what purpose did having a opening at that point serve? Also, I assume the FF was a mistake b/c it completely failed in it's purpose. It pushed the lings INTO the pylon, not away from it. If he put it right in front of the pylon it would of pushed them back and given time for the probe to get up the extra pylons and maybe even the cannon. Not that it matter much, but the 2nd layer pylon outside the zerg base was off by 1 grid and if it powered all 3 u would of gotten more lings.
Was a battle of inches.

incontrol taking the pylon & cannon block to another level and failing...
|
Wonder if that play is going in the gosuguide
|
that was the most fail pylon/cannon block at zerg ramp i have ever seen... what is incontrol thinking? idra definitely would not whine about that kinda of pylon block...

level of hating here is incredible fuck off seriously rofl
there was a blurp of lag when I did the FF obviously I wasn't trying to trap my warping pylon with a gaggle of lings.
|
Pretty cool build, I dunno if 3 canons was worth it tho. I think 1 canon + FE would have been better.
Still much love Incontrol!
|
Don't understand incontrols play..
-Saving Chronoboosts early when he just cannon contains? I think the extra probes would be more useful.
- The extra cannons? Seems like a waste really, when you could take an expansion with all those wasted minerals and they didn't stop anything.
>_>
|
I love it when that pylon block crap gets crushed god I hate when people do that . Gj Slush but thats why I scout on 10 with a drone so if i see forge I can prevent that dumb 2 pylon block :D
|

Expected as much. Obviously it wasn't intended. That little bit of lag was the game sadly.
|
|
Isn't the point of that build just to slow down the zerg? Why was there THREE cannons? Seemed like a super weak sort of allin build.. not sure what the point was
edit: Wanted to add, Axslav impressed the hell out of me, that was some really sick army control and micro from him
|
I thought he should have snuck a pylon into Slush's base and then warp in 10 sentries and focus the extractor.
Idk though this could have worked.
|
man how sick would it be if it was Idra as the 4th from EG right now...

machine is baller though
so impressed with axslav though

not hate just criticising the play. as someone else mentioned why bank chrono boosts when you're cannon containing? also the decision to invest 3 cannons and 3 pylons at his ramp when he can easily run by with speedlings is a little mystifying. anyway nice effort.

Anyone who doesn't think an EG player with almost nothing else to manage at the time would screw up that forcefield (which wasn't even time-critical) without some externality like lag is very foolish
Props for defending longer than I thought possible and good probe micro.
|
I'm not really sure what the purpose of 3 cannons + another pylon outside are for. One cannon contain would have done the exact same thing since lings will just run by anyways if they break it. Also, a little disappointed that he wasn't scouting for hidden expansions. Whenever I do the pylon blocking strat, one of the most important things to do is follow around the drone scout to make sure he isn't doing a hidden expansion.
Just my thoughts...not bad mouthing incontrol or anything. Just curious on the play. When I block with pylons + cannon I usually transition to 4 gate. Wonder if that was the plan.
|
I can't believe Machine had that much of an adv... the armies didn't look THAT vastly different but he ended up with a MASSSIVE victory in slushes own base with mutas pounding on his lings as there was a ling war. No idea how that happened but it did.

oh man machine xD. 6 banelings in the base and 4 into 1 zealot instead of probe line. Oh well must not have been paying attention

Predicted 4-2 for ROOT and got 4-3. Nice games. Glad ROOT won. Surprised KiWi forgot to block ramp with Zealot after initial lings got in. He's usually so calm in those situations. Good games. Banelings weren't as effective as they could have been. gg's

Understandable, WP to all the players in this Clan battle
Great game Machine vs Kiwikakki. To be able to beat banelings with zealots is, as the phrase goes, GOSU x 2!

I haven't see anything cross the line in terms of offensiveness or stupidity in relation to opinions expressed about other players. We're not allowed to express disapproval because Inc is on these forums? He's a good player, but he lost that game unnecessarily.

Those were all very entertaining games, very good clan war! And of course gz to Root. Looking forward to some regames at MLG.

Great games. KiWiKaKi's zealot split during his decisive +1 zealot push was sweet. I'm also very impressed by Axslav's play. He almost pulled off what would've been a super clutch Overseer snipe against SLush, but his DTs stayed under fire too long. Mad respect to the quick thinking for that; it might've turned the game around actually, to delay gold mining even longer there.

I didnt know how to go about playing Jungle Basin TvP.. The rocks in the back made me afraid of going 1 Rax expand.. due to voidrays charging on the rocks and then rolling my back expo.. first map jungle basin was wierd. ive never played that map and im sure everyone would agree that they would prefer not to play it

I had a blast watching this series. Thanks EG and ROOT for the excellent games and Gretorp for the lively casting!

Gretorp casting always makes me banana grin! Great games played by all and thanks for fast replay uploads!
Only major criticism is that I'd hate to play on Jungle Basin :-\ Prolly best to choose a different map next time. Every time I play on that map in a custom, it feels like it epitomizes a lot of things that are wrong with the Blizzard ladder map pool.
