Hey everyone, the CSL and I will be creating a Starcraft league especially for High School students sometime in the near future. Once we get enough people and schools it will work much like regular school sporting events in which each school will create a team and compete against each other for fun and bragging rights.
Here's where you can find us on the net: Website: High School StarLeague Sign-up Form: Sign-up Twitter: High School StarLeague Twitter Youtube Channel (for casts of tournament games): High School Starleague Youtube Official e-mail: hstarleague[at]gmail[[dot]]com
Thanks a lot, HSL

Hi, Westview Highschool From San Diego California would like to join xD
Of course! Anyone may join, just follow the instructions and you'll be registered. I'll start emailing you information about tournaments as soon as we have enough people
can a staff from CSL confirm this thread? i cant trust people with less than 10 post count (no offends).
Too bad nobody in my school plays SC =[
i'll represent the Marine Corps =)

What if you're like the only one from your school lol
If you're the only one from your school, We'll still be having friendly mini tournaments in between the main inter-school ones

start a club
Hmmm I'll represent my school, but I only have 1 friend who plays SC2. Do we have to have a team? and if so what is the minimum number?
I will represent Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island, NY as I am the best SC2 player in the entire school.
99% sure of that.
edit: there's definitely going to be some random person who comes in this thread and is like "omg i play sc2 and go to farrell and i can kick this guy's ass >:D"
if that's the case my bnet name is Crono.582 and we can throw down on any map.

holy shit good for you, you are the best player in your high school... wow I am so impressed, stop bragging. You dont have to be the best player to be a team organizer
im so in!!! theres like only 2 others in my school though.. and they might not even play. is this ok?
is this for BW or sc2 (im assuming sc2 because there would be more players for that)? and at my school there are 2-3 people (including myself) who would play is that fine, what is the minimum amount of players for a team?

Looks like SC2 since it is in the SC2 forum. Why wasn't this started when I was in HS >_<.

Uh lol. You're platinum, with a w/r of like 53 percent? Being the best in your school is like being the best in your house. Congratulations.
I know like 10 kids who play sc2 in my school. They are all bronze. Surprise!

I'd say you don't necessarily need to trust someone in order to express interest for a league that isn't asking for anything other than an expression of interest. OP is taking the initiative and setting up a friendly high school league, not asking for your money or firstborn children
As for the CSL, I wasn't aware of actually taking a hand in organizing this league, but we've talked to the OP about some of our pitfalls and experiences. Either way, sounds like a cool league and hope it does well!
I am the only one from my school so this is just me pitching an idea but since there is only a few people per school could we just organize teams much like a draft. That way we would all be around the same age group and be able to schedual better times together to play. Kinda like a mini clan. I would like to meet some of the other players out there also
I agree with trowa, Including me, there is only one other person who is good at sc2, some others that play but have other obligations, and probably plenty in the bronze leagues. It would be better to make this sort of a mini-clan with scrimmage matches or something like that instead of each school. Or allow people like me to join someone else's "school clan"

I have two or three people from my school that could do this, but one is a three sport varsity athelete and the other is a guy who's in like 5 AP classes.

Most kids in my high school just play CoD and Halo. ):

My school (Bergen County Academies) has 4-5 people who could play... just need to buy SCII first lol
clear lake high school (Houston Texas) has 5-7 peeps who could
I love how the posts in this thread just OOZE of high-schoolery.
Hm, wait. Anyone go to Olympian High School here? In chula vista
How many people needed for a team
The usual team consists of 5 playersI really like trowa and fusion's ideas as well, as from what I've seen from the posts there aren't enough people from each school to make a team. I just wish I knew how to make a website so I could make a forum or chat program of some kind. Hint to anyone who knows how to do that Also, my own school will be having a little scrimmage tournament tomorrow at 3ish. I'll be streaming the games I can to livestream.com/umbjabaya
Each high school has a lot smaller of a player base than most colleges, so one issue I might predict would be more variation in the skill levels of the top 5 players at any given school than would happen in college, so I would expect if the normal line-up making style is used there would be a bit more uncompetitive one-sided matches than are desired.
A solution would be like what they do on tennis teams or in chess I've seen it, where you seed your own players and your 1 plays their 1, your 2 plays their 2, etc., and they should follow the general skill levels of your team in spirit.
LMAO My school has like at least 20 people or more who play starcraft. Then again, like 90% of my school population is asian, so maybe it's a given. I'll check if anyone is involved.
Wow I wish there was stuff like this when I was in high school a few years ago, or maybe I was just never aware of these leagues.
If only this happened when I was still in HS :X, everyone in my group is diamond lol and we had a B- and a couple of C BW players :/ Woulda been hella fun.
By the way, any times I state for tournaments should be assumed to be in Pacific time, so if you want to watch my school have their scrimmage, it's 3:00 pm PST
Is this open for Canadian high schools too?
Unfortunately I am pretty much the best in my highschool, and everyone else are all nexus war/4v4 players...

#1 I'm sure plenty of your teachers played video games in high school and some of them still do... seek them out and shame them into signing their name to your club.
#2 Most people really won't care that you choose to play video games after school - If anything its a way to meet like-minded people and a conversation-starter with anyone else.

Hi there, I am pleased to notify all of you that Aragon and Carlmont high schools in Bay Area, CA have already started a joint SC2 American high school league. Carlmont's first club meeting was held today and ours will be held tomorrow. Luckily, many students are interested in the game/have purchased it and our membership is expected to grow. We are looking into having our first school vs. school tournament this semester. The school council has already approved these clubs and we have the full support of our advisers.
As for "social status" problems, we have a mix of "popular" and "geeky" students interested in SC2. The local high school community has recognized that gaming is an integral part of the modern youth's lives and ostracizing anyone for gaming is actually looked down on in our school. Our school environment is very gamer friendly, with a variety of other game related clubs already in existence.
We look forward to possibly merging with your CSL sponsored league, however far it has progressed. We are also looking into recruiting additional schools within The Bay.
Btw, I did a quick search for "high school starcraft league" and I ended up at TL. I made my account today so I could post to you guys about this awesome news.

The Email seems to be non-existant...is there a new one?
Any NJ Highschools that will allow a walk on / not in highschool (though highschool age) join the team?
Hey everyone, I am very happy to announce that we are having our first inter-school tournament this Saturday at 5 pm PST. Emails will be sent to everyone who has signed up, but to compete in the tournament, you MUST reply to the email saying that you can definitely be there. The reason for this is that the number of applicants we have does not support a regular tournament bracket, so some eliminations would allow the tournament to work. The tournament will be streamed at livestream.com/umbjabaya and possibly at a few others, I will keep you updated.

Okay, so the tournaments are going to be EVERY WEEK (yay), Saturdays at 5:00 pm PST. For now, since some schools lack organization, the tournaments are going to be individuals against individuals instead of school versus school. Remember, if you want to sign up for the weekly, you must send a message to hstarleague@gmail.com OR put a comment on our blog at http://hstarleague.blogspot.com. We will also have a website eventually, provided we get some web designers to help us out. Everyone please tell your friends, mothers, brothers, dogs, books, and anyone or thing about the league so we can really get this thing going! Thanks a lot, The HSL Team PS: Congratulations to Retributioni for winning HSL weekly #1!
Ok, we have a rough website up at http://hstarleague.webs.com/ that you should all check out, from now on this website is where you will register teams as well as sign up for future tournaments. If you have already registered a team, please post it on the new site as well.

The Berkeley class is BW I think. And taught by students if I remember correctly. Still cool though, although I'm pretty sure they won't accept you just because you're a good SC player.

Thanks to everyone who participated last night in HSL #4! In a true display of skill and mettle, I took the finals 3-2 vs. rofflewoffle, losing both games that lasted more than ten minutes and winning the other three by four-gating and rushing DTs. The next week for him will be dedicated to learning how to counter four gateways and the next week for me will be dedicated to learning how to advance my strategies from the bronze league.
HSL #5 information is up at http://hstarleague.com/. Two non-ladder maps, iCCup Enigma (thank you for the awesome maps, iCCup) and Elysium will be included in the pool, so get practicing and be sure to sign up!

Haha, no problem. We are high school students and things pop up all the time. That's understandable. Having played Elysium a bit more, I don't think it's such a great map after all. I'm going to consult with the other men of the triumvirate (yes, we are a big deal) and see about replacing it.
Just want to let everyone know that Elysium has been replaced with iCCup Fighting Spirit. Elysium just isn't that great of a map. This is shaping up to be the biggest HSL yet; we've almost enough signups to do a tournament of 32. Keep spreading the word!

To be honest it's been stagnating a bit. All three of us tournament organizers have been getting bound up with schoolwork. We tried to organize teams through a forum but we didn't configure it right and Chinese spammers had their way with it. We're going to try to do some work over the holidays.

Hey perhaps I'll email you guys too, but...
you've mentioned you would like to start team leagues (i'm hoping similar to CSL cus that seems to be the best it can get to a school league) but when do you plan?
If you're waiting for more people... I don't think that's the right way to do it. Many people may not want to participate in 1v1 tournaments where they will be afraid of losing in the first round.
I'm sure if you organize your forums (get the spammers out somehow) or have people email you their teams instead... then things will be much faster. You could start as soon as there are a few teams, even 8 seems like a very strong number. Perhaps even fewer. Because once those team members see that the there is an actual team league, I'm sure that they'll tell their friends about it and those friends will also make teams from their schools. Of course though, if having a league with only a few teams, the "season" should be short so that new teams won't have to wait very long to sign up. If you guys want to you could even slowly add people in and adjust the schedules to make them fit at least somewhat decently and then start once there are a lot of teams (16+?).
TL;DR
Emphasize people on HSL to send their teams to your email, and starting a league ASAP even with only a few teams should speed up the growth by a lot and also make the early stage of the HSL a lot more competitive, interesting, and best of all, fun.
Note: Currently my school, and 2 of my friends' schools already have teams because I told them about it, so yeah. In addition to the 2 I saw on the forums, that's 5. And I'm sure there are a few more teams/schools as seen in the 1v1s, even though they weren't in the Team Listings on the forums. So pretty much, we probably already have 8 teams ready to go!
My school has a starcraft club and we are wondering what happened to the team leagues that were going to open up to this.
Nice ^_^ edit: Aww man no team yet?? >,> lol Like 4 friends and I wanted to join for our school!
I'll email the guys again tonight, I know there must be hundreds of starcraft clubs and even (over 9000!) thousands of cliques of friends that would want to join if they found out about it.
Signed up! We already have an organized team so I hope this can build a small team league!
only people in my school who are actually decent are me and my friend. eveyone else is terrible
Really looking forward to this weak, lets make this the highest attended one yet!!

I'm sorry for the bump, but I was wondering what the current status is for HSL. I feel that this is a thread that shouldn't be dead, considering the fact that many SC2 players are high schoolers. I checked the webpage and the last comp was apparently one month ago? I guess it's reasonable though, considering finals and AP tests as well as SAT.
Anyways, I'm bumping this.
