CyberGamer is proud to announce the Western Digital PSI STORM 2010 StarCraft II Tournament, with $5000 in CASH prizes thanks to Western Digital's VelociRaptor! CyberGamer strives to bring the ultimate StarCraft community experience to everyone in the Oceania region, and a large part of this is providing everyone with the chance to participate in the largest and most influential tournaments available to Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asian players. What better way to show our support for the Oceania community than by teaming up with Western Digital to present to you the premier SC2 event for the SEA sever.
The WD Psi Storm 2010 event not only boasts a whopping AU$5000 prizepool but it's also open to EVERYONE from Australia, New Zealand or Southeast Asia on the SEA server. There's no limit to the number of players, no limits on skill or league, no special invites, and prizes go all the way down to the top 16 players meaning almost everyone has a shot at a prize. How can you be a part of the largest community tournament for the Oceania region? Read on...
The event will run for FOUR WEEKS between the 12th of September and the 10th of October, and consists of 4 single elimination qualifier events - 3 weekend tournaments and 1 weekday tournament - with 8 qualifiers from each advancing to participate in a 32-player double elimination final. 2 weeks registration before each event, some overlapping with registration of other qualifiers. See the dates here:
Brief interview with SephyreSC about the event for his YouTube channel
Any Australian, New Zealand or Southeast Asian resident playing on their own SEA server Battle.net account may participate in this tournament. Registration for the four qualifier events will open 2 weeks before the event is scheduled to run, and you can sign up via the CyberGamer events system. To see more information on the individual qualifiers see the list below:
Additionally, the winning qualifier each week will face off against one of fnatic's best players in special exhibition games. Find out more information here.
To register is simple, you must sign up using your CyberGamer account login on the Tournament section of the official CG events page. There will be a new events page for each Qualifier round, available 2 weeks before the competition commences. You must sign up on the tournament bracket page to successfully sign up to the tournament.

This is cool and all but what's going to stop top players just using a friends SEA account/address to play in this tourney and most likely get pretty far into the money.

I'm seeing this a bit maybe I didn't explain it clearly. You only sign up for ONE bracket, but you can sign up to MULTIPLE qualifier events. Qualifier events will have their own thread (and their own set of 4 brackets).
The multiple brackets on THIS page are not the different qualifiers, they are all part of the same qualifier - so you are only allowed to sign up to ONE of them.
The brackets are broken up like this because one admin is going to take each bracket to ease the workload, and you will report all results and disputes to them.
This sounds like an awesome tournament! As a couple of other people have mentioned, this will be nice for some people on the SEA server who haven't been bombarded by tournaments lately, giving them a chance to play competitively. The tournament sounds really well operated, and I like the set-up with an open registration paired with four qualifier rounds. In theory, this will allow anyone who wants to play to join, but only the best will make it through to a rather large (32 player) tournament. Very cool, with a pretty decent prize pool! I'm also excited to see the stream/VODs for this, since I'm unfamiliar with many of the players from this region aside from perhaps the oGs and Prime guys!
Also, on a side note, about a year and a half ago I bought a Western Digital Passport external hard drive to put the movies that I ripped onto something other than my computer. I'm extremely satisfied with it because it was relatively cheap (about $80 on Black Friday), is conveniently sized, and is actually quite fast. To anyone interested in buying a hard drive of any time, I highly suggest checking out Western Digital's products, not only because they are quite high-quality, but also because they are sponsoring a large StarCraft II tournament, and hopefully many more to come!
Its cool that WD is sponsoring the event and all... but VelociRaptor?! is this 2004? don't kid yourself in 2010 mechanical hard drives that claim there "high-performance" is all marketing. If you want to talk performance even the most low end SSD beats the best mechanical HDs. Once you switch to a SSD you will never want to go back to a mechanical HD, their not practical for storage just yet. But that's why we have our 2TB mechanical HDs, VelociRaptor in today's world is really impractical.
Western Digital Caviar Green or Black 2TB drives now that makes more sense.
I'd like to ask how exactly will the admins determine which bracket one enters if he/she enters two brackets in the same qualifier?
Because the rule says that the person will be removed from the brackets until there's only one left. Atm if I'm not mistaken, there are a couple of players who are in two brackets for Qualifier #1. D:

They will be left in the bracket with the least number of people in it. If you see any names in more than one let us know.
If you notice other people in 2 or more brackets let me know guys!
Also, spread the word as I don't have access to many SEAsian community sites and I am sure there are many Aus/NZ ones or international ones with strong Aus/NZ presences that I am not aware of. I'd really appreciate it you posted information about the event on those kinds of sites and leave the link here or PM it to me to keep a track of!

Oh whoops - thank you for correcting me Shinta)! I was wrongfully assuming that Korea was also included in the SEA server, but you know what happens when you assume. Thanks for the clarification!
This event the highlight of CG's Sc2 program so far(along with the $10'000 CG-Live ladder), with a big thanks to deL for his hard work that has gone into it.
While you are at CG, there are also a few local ladders to participate in there as well for the Aussies and kiwi's who are looking to play some more local games, as well as other events that regularly pop up from time to time. Stop in and say G'day!

Yes. Can't really have a LAN for all of SEAsia and Oceania haha.
How are you guys policing it for players trying to join in from Internationally? Its not very hard to log in and say your from another country (and buy a SEA account)

Imbal!
Well that's interesting because i wonder how they will enforce people external from SEA servers joining.
He has no bnet ID linked to his account, which at least brings up the important point:
PLEASE HAVE A BNET ID LINKED TO YOUR CG ACCOUNT!
:3
Of course if it's the real MorroW he can't play, unless he is currently living in SEA or Oceania.

With a close-knit community such as SEA it's going to be pretty obvious if something looks out of place. If someone with 0-0 stats on their account comes along and takes out GLaDe in round 1 we can look into it.
The WD PSI Storm 2010 Qualifier #2 commences tonight at 6:00PM (afternoon) GMT+10 (AEST)
