UPDATE: Second Fight Night VODs can be found on UStream -- they were too big for YouTube.

Fight Night Ep. 1 + Show Spoiler +Our first Fight Night has been VOD'ed on YouTube and is embedded below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCTNrI3yXH4 Welcome to the Official Fight Night thread. This thread will be used for all discussion, information / updates, and VODs of a new weekly live show brought to you by Major League Gaming. Graphic will be added here in a bit to pretty up this post.
Every Friday beginning at 02:00 GMT (+00:00) we will be going live with a new show featuring top players from all divisions currently in the SC2 beta. The premise of the show is to get players -- I'll try to do several tiers throughout the night; some Plat, some Gold, some Silver, etc; the main goal of the cast is to provide entertainment) who haven't had the chance to be in the spotlight their 15 minutes of fame. That being said, we will be completely open to any "pro" players who want to come in for a match.
I plan to run the matches in a very 'open' manner. There will rarely be a series as I want to cram as many one-round matches into our two hour broadcast. We might have some 2v2 matches, I might even play against another commentator and cast at the same time -- the options are endless! The general goal is for people participating to have fun, and people watching to have fun. This won't be a super serious competitive tournament environment at all. Surprise guests are bound to happen!
That being said, I am completely open to any criticism, ideas, or comments about this in the thread. If something sounds fun then chances are I will probably throw it into the show! Also, I know that there are currently a ton of shows every week. I tried to plan this as best as possible but if I coincide with any current cast going on, please let me know in the comments. I don't want to rob anyone's time slot.
If you are interested in playing tomorrow night send me a PM on TL.net with your Battle.Net ID OR send a Real ID request in Starcraft 2 to fightnight.mlg@gmail.com OR simply add FightNight.mlg to your friend list. Tomorrow night throughout the show I will be picking users at random who PM me when its time to get some new opponents.
Thanks everyone! See you tomorrow night at 02:00 GMT (+00:00)! Remember to check out the State of the Game SC2 Podcast and the MLG Showcase Series threads here on TL.net
>>>The stream will be available HERE<<<

Sounds awesome! I can't wait

Also when is MLG PC Circuit gonna start getting main website attention. I have attended four MLG events to play Halo 3 4v4 and several to play Halo 2 FFA, and while I never played on the PC Circuit I feel like it's still kind of in the shadows still.. WOW had it's own separate area and was pretty secluded. I go to MLG.com frequently, and I didn't even know that MLG had starcraft videos until I finally got my SCII beta key and came over to team liquid again(haven't been on here in awhile). These videos and exhibition matches are good, but MLG needs to make some announcements concerning their plans for the future of the PC Circuit, especially now that we have a release date on SCII.

Truth! Deleted the second part.

Alright, well thanks for clearing it up so quick, I'll be tuning in =)

do you have to be a certain rank to be eligible for this. it just says top players... or do you have the top players play against the random ones?

so plat vs silver?
should be intense

On May 07 2010 08:59 iG.CatZ wrote: so plat vs silver?

well maybe it will be silver vs silver, and plat vs plat.
Or even like Gold/Silver vs Gold/Silver 2v2
I'm not really sure how accurately the bungie ladder ranking system is to your real skill level as I was a gold 2v2 random, and I am extremely bad at the game as far as micro/apm etc are concerned. But I think that's cause I had no competition in the placement rounds.. for example i am a very low silver Terran in 1v1 which I play the most..., but I think the ladder system is there just for fun, and to give you some idea of how good you are not exactly how good you are.
As long as the matches aren't complete blow outs, it should be fun

Damn JP, your a busy bee aren't u ^_^

Awesome initiative JP. The more events for SC2 the better~

Good to see MLG capitalizing on a great opportunity. I made several posts and PM's about getting SC1 into MLG, but it never went through. Happy to see that they are making an effort for SC2.

great idea jp! im very interested!!
|
Not as much community response as I was hoping for. I guess everyone is talking about the patch notes.

cool stuff jp! u da man! n_n

Thanks for the effort JP!

R1CH made this new function Introducing [time] and [date] .
Would be nice to keep up with all these event from all over the world. Would be shame not use it
Pachi had a great idea for adding time / date tags. They will take a time or date in one format and display it in your local timezone. You will first need to edit your profile to select your time zone for this to work.
The input is very flexible, allowing you to input in either numbers or some textual methods.

According to some of the higher ups at the organization, Gotfrag is the primary source for anything MLG PC related. I wish it'd be on the main page as well :/

The Zerg player in the 2v2 obviously was. It's unfortunate that people feel the need to do this. Great event going so far JP. Keep up the awesomeness. I couldn't get on SC2 to try and get in a match, but I can tune in and have a nice night. Thank you.
|
Thanks to everyone who came out and watched our first ever cast. I will have the VOD up at our Ustream account relatively soon -- and yes, its a shame for those players who were stream watching.
|
what the hell is the point of stream watching on an event with no prize... future ladder maphackers inc =/

nice cast guys, epic scans by qxc and many banelings, im guessing that phrase is going to catch on!

Great work guys, very entertaining. I'm REALLY surprised more people didn't tune in, you had some awesome matchups and really fun to watch.

Yeah. It was pretty lame of those guys to stream watch. There's nothing we can really do about it though.

I was surprised how entertaining the games were and there were a lot of high level games. qxc vs Zelniq was epic. I can't belive only ~500 were watching.

You misunderstand me. It's not the fact that the players were bad alone, but rather that they were supposed to be "top 10 plat" players. I want to be in their division - in their division players don't attack their opponent with a void ray if the opponent has no anti-air, they make carriers, and nydus tunnel to their opponents base for absolutely no reason. I'll be #1 plat in about 5 minutes.
If those players were honest and said "hey, I'm copper" or "hey, it's my first time playing the game" (tehbbmisc) then fine, no problem. But to claim that they're plat? In all seriousness I've met more skilled copper players.
Other than that, great event JP and MLG. Some people on ustream were saying how much better JP is at commentating after having so much practice with day[9], and I must agree ^^. Keep up the good work.

Really enjoy these kinda events, MLG really stepping it up

One small criticism. It seemed this started last week as a "Get your moment in the spotlight thing" and there wasn't too much of that this week. You had some showmatches and bigger names and while I like watching that, it didn't seem in the spirit of the event or what the event was supposed to be. I'd like to see more unknowns and maybe more showmatches another day or event. :/
Great event regardless, thanks for doing it

So it was just announced that Phase 1 of the SC2 Beta will be ending on May 31. Due to me having to travel starting next Tuesday and being gone till June 7, this week's Fight Night will most likely be the last (unless I can cast next week from my friends house in California, might be possible). I'll let everyone know by the time we do the cast Friday night.
|
Hey JP and co., I just wanted to say that the Fight Night is a fantastic idea and is without a doubt the most entertaining VOD cast I've watched of SC2 (note: I've only seen the one embedded in the OP). With the unfortunate exception of the obvious bad sports during the 2v2 who were clearly listening in, the whole thing was very enjoyable. Having a cast that includes both mediocre players and excellent players is a great opportunity to compare and contrast the two skill levels.
I was entertained enough for two whole hours of watching people play--which is, by the way, very unusual for me, as I prefer to maybe watch one match and then go play myself--that I felt it was worthwhile to create an account and show my gratitude. Keep up the good work, and I'm disappointed that there will only be one more for now.
