Just watched Day9 daily #221 (where I learned to be a better gamer). He said Zerg has a ~50% win rate in Korea (compared to ~20% in NA, unconfirmed). How true is this?

Also, I know Zerg is a very high APM, macro and micro intensive race, BUT is there a particular strategy that they use? In daily 221, Zerg used heavy Roaches vs Stalkers. In my experience, playing both Zerg and Protoss, Roaches get rolled by Stalkers (if numbers are even or Zerg has more). Are heavy Roaches a good way to deal with Protoss?

Also, where do I get "replay packs"? I know where to get replays, but Day9 talks about PACKS of replays. Where do I get them?

Thanks everyone!

roaches are so much cheaper then stalkers. and they roll over stalkers at equal cost. u need to micro ur roaches properly and make sure u get their upgrades.

yeah speedroaches with upgrades are very good against stalkers, add burrow micro if he doesn't have a observer yet and you'll roll over stalkers

stalkers are only better than roaches if they have blink. roaches beat stalkers once upgraded, but it's not smart to go "pure" anything vs anyone.

do you watch GSL? go to gomtv.net and you can also see what players do in tournaments too.

That's why I said "unconfirmed". Please read. I don't know what the win rate is but its VERY low in NA.

Everyone else, thanks for the advice! Anyone else have any other input?

i go ling/muta for my ZvP usuallly. roachs<stalkers if the stalkers have room to run +the toss micros due to their longer range and faster speed.

Not on the ladder. ladder games have each race winning around 50% (not surprising the way match making works)

http://sc2ranks.com/stats/region/us/all/all//
http://sc2ranks.com/stats/region/kr/all/all//

roaches vs stalkers is about timing, upgrades, other units and the amount of each on the field.
2 Stalkers + a sentry beats a 5 RR.
10 ish roaches probably beat 10 ish stalkers if you get a surround and full upgrades on both ( I am guessing)

On the Korean ladders, you'll notice that most people are just plain AGGRESSIVE. Not to say that they're all in players, though that does happen. They'll just get right in your faces with allot of shit, usually roach/ling, using pressure to buy them time to transition. There are very macro intensive players, too, though.

These are some heavy macro players, too. The closest I could point to that style in an american SC2 player is Idra.

For a good example of both styles, take a look at a vod from flash (terran, heavy macro) and Jaedong (zerg, agressive). They are BW players atm because of contracts, but watching those games will give you a good sense of the general style.

As for specific strategies, no. The way they execute them is what makes them effective. There are some strategies that are more common, like the "korean 4 gate", but like I said, it's all in the execution.

If by close to 20 percent, you mean every match up is within 5% of 50%, then sure. The win rate isn't nearly as low as you think it is, and the Koreans aren't using some radical style of zerg that's winning every game (this sounds like a post from the middle of beta). The korean style of zvp seems to involve quite a few roach ling 2 base pushes, and they're pretty effective. Also, the new flavor of the month for stopping protoss 2 base all ins is roach burrow. Other than that, the differences between the servers aren't that big at all (zerg has a pretty high zvp win rate in korea though; I'll give you that.) Regarding replay packs, I have no idea, sorry.

Edit: Also, keep in mind that you can get two roaches for every stalker the protoss has (assuming you aren't supply capped. Incidentally, this is why 200/200 protoss armies stomp 200/200 armies that are roach heavy.), and in 2:1 numbers, roaches stomp on stalkers. Therefore, since you get saturated much faster than a 3 warp gate expand, mass roach production with burrow to (somewhat) negate forcefields can often simply win games. Once colossi come out, however, roaches become much less effective.

The only reason im assuming roaches are doing well in korma is that they are very aggressive zergs. Roaches scale incredible with upgrades in the early mid game but as time goes on they lose effectiveness, so im guessing they win in the mid game with a strong upgraded roach push or sumn

I believe he said that on Korean servers Zergs have about 57% wins against Protoss, while on Europe and rest of the world they have about 45%-50%.

Thats really significant difference in those regions.

it's all 49-50-51% wins as each race.

With zergs normally on the 51% wins and 49% wins for both terrans and protoss.

Zerg players are generally 17-22% (normally 19%), of the population base, while Protoss have the highest around 33-36%, and terran around 30 - 33%... Thats pretty much in every region.
