TBH, I would never have clicked on this thread to check out your map if it was called something innocuous like vespene valley. Gas chamber...that raised my eyebrows for sure.

I must say, VERY nice aesthetics. Seeing the map, I think the name is not just a gimmick, it actually fits (I don't think it's that offensive either, though like I said, it did raise my eyebrows). I love the lighting all over the place, and the fog and overall attention to detail.

IF you're looking for constructive criticism, read on: the rush distance is incredibly short, which tends to be hard on zergs. Also, knocking down the destructible rocks is not worth it at all, since it barely shortens the rush distance and the natural choke, main choke, and alternate/destructible choke are all so close they can be defended from a single position.

Aesthetically well made and a bunch of really interesting things going on on this map. I like the way the backdoor works (a lot of possible things that can happen right there) and I'd love to see how this 4 gas expansion works out (mass casters, like mass HTs, Raven, Infestor? Or mass air? sounds pretty cool).
So I really like the placement of the expansion and the XWTs but the map might be too small overall... I feel the middle is just too tight, Zerg will have massive problems engaging any army in the area of the backdoor entrances.
Terran could simply cut the map in half by sitting in the middle with mass tanks and slow-push up your backdoor while happily reinforcing through their own backdoor. Scary thought :D
So if you make the middle alot bigger so Zerg can actually do something against that I'd really love this map

By the way, can Siege Tanks hit the goldexpo from the highground in your base? And is this highround buildable?

As for the name, we can say that whoever is offended by this is just touchy and stuff all we want but in the end tournaments will never ever allow a map with this name to be played and Blizzard will never put it in their map pool and we will definitely not change their minds. So you better rename it^^

Do not, and I repeat, do not rename the map because people complain about it. Now if you're map was named *F**k the N***rs* or something like that, then I could see why.

A Gas Chamber is real, weather or not it 'offends' people. I think the name is very good for the theme of the map. You call it like you see it, a Gas Chamber.


Now about the map.

I think it looks rather interesting. I'm judging just by the photos because it's not uploaded on the NA servers yet. If you're looking for somebody to upload it for you, I would. And I would even send you a Replay. =P


This would probably be the most awesome ZvZ map to play, especially with the use of Creep Tumors. Building a line of Creep to your opponents base, then throwing down some Spine crawlers to bust the rocks to to assault with wouldn't be a bad idea. Well, not even just ZvZ, but in any Zerg play really. I may try this.....


For competition play, I don't think this map would be the super best, but it's not bad (would be better with the removal of the 4 gas expand), but it does look like a fun map to play never the less. Very nice for fast paced, in your face, style of games.

I strongly believe, that history, no matter how ugly, must be told!

My grandfather was rescued from Neuengamme by American troops in ´45. After that he came home, fathered my father and thus, enabled me to come into existance. I owe my life to those Americans.

If I offend 100 people but cause one young person to learn about what happened and why it happened I´ll consider it a great victory. Don´t forget Hitler came to power in a democratic election, so I think it is fucking important that people are able to recognize the rethorics, that are so tempting for the narrowminded.

However, I honestly did not think of this when I named my map. Just found some sweet lighting effects and played around with the fog editor, then I wanted to do an experimental 4 gas expo and build the whole theme around it. Also I found out that textures could be matched with cliffs in a mesmerizing industrial blocky style. In hine sight it might have been easier to call it Vespene Lotso Huggin´ Bear, but I think it fits the theme, and StarCraft2 is, after all, a game about war.

The layout has gone through many iterations, as it was created in the wrong order: nice graphics and landscaping gimmicks first, gameplay later.

I am very flattered that you guys encourage me to change the name, in order to highten the chance of this map getting used in tournaments. Hell, I´d be honoured just to receive a replay from two diamond players testing it out. I´m still deep in the process of learning to create competitive melee maps, and I have long ways to go. Would I change the name in order to get this map used in a tournament? Sure.

I just love this sub forum and the creative energy here. Just take a look at what´s been released the last week. There are some true gems there.

You can break through by destroying 2 sets, one 2000hp and one 1500hp, but that gives you only a narrow path. You´ll have to destroy more to quickly move an army through. I think most people will ignore this option unless they have a specific strategy mapped out.[image loading]

The in-main high ground is buildable. That´s where you hide your spire with a bunch of spore crawlers . Or you forget about it and get slaughtered by drops.

4-gas expo. Let´s just try it and learn from the experience.

Wow, from looking at it, it looks very good :D

Like you mentioned the creep spread may be a problem, seems you will have to add something in that hurts Z in a way to make up.

Actually, I think it's fine; the main's ramp is quite vulnerable, as in although he can connect his bases easier with creep, it's also very easy to split his forces up (forcefield, tanks, etc.) so I don't think it will be that much of a problem if at all.

i really like the gas concept... it's unique, although I think 4 gas is too much. perhaps spread out the gas a little more so that there's 2 pairs, so if you expo in the middle, you will need 4 guys to mine optimally from each but if you put an expo on the side (like towards the center) you only need 3 but can only get 2 of them reasonably... just a random suggestion

I really like the "random" destructible rock too, it definitely will make things more... well, tactical xD

(w/out reading the other posts because I'm too lazy/ don't want to be biased)

This map looks like the most epic think I've ever seen. Hope fully it will inspire different position technique and placement of the most epic proportions. I worry that tanks and sensor towers will screw it up.

Another thing that I realized is that the quick distance may inspire all-ins a little too much, and those that go and attempt to utilize the extra gas on this map will be quickly shut down. Also, the nat looks incredibly hard to take. (units could stand on the 3rd and help form a ridiculous concave). Again, this applies only to 4 gates and 3 rax or other all-ins early game, as late game, you should be looking to expanding to your third or just don't get in a bad position.

Other wise, I think this is an epic map. I'll try to play games and send you replays if I remember. I wish they would put this on the map pool, but I'm pretty sure you have WAY too many revolutionary, awesome things, for the people of Blizzard, who would much rather watch a steppes game.

The maps name immediatly reminds me of various cruel WW2 stories. Im not really offended but the map's name doesn't help giving it a positive image.

Siege tanks can not hit the Nex/Hatch/CC but they can hit the two geysers, which kind of makes this a mineral only expo vs Terran.

I cannot believe people some times. You play a game centered around war. You are constantly killing your enemy. But somebody names a map Gas Chamber and you have a problem with that?

I got the same kind of response when I named one of my maps "Ground Zero." I disregarded it and haven't heard a problem since. There's also always someone who *has* to point out the swastika in the map and go "LOLOLOLOL SECRET MESSAGE MR. FACIST? LOLOL"

To those people: Stop it. It's old and us mapmakers honestly do not give the slightest bit of a shit. We're here to make maps, not deploy subliminal messages of indoctrination. Grow up.

As for the map, the texturing and doodads are fucking fantastic. The layout is pretty good but I'm never a fan of backdoors that lead into the main (even front doors in this case.) Voids charging on the debris and then sniping buildings in the main might be annoying but I don't think it will be a problem that you'll have to fix. Nice map ;D

The map is filled with green gas. Gas chamber is fine. Who the fuck cares what kind of imagery it evokes. It's a good name for a dark gritty map.

This is not actually true. While there was some strange stuff going on at the 1933 election, there was no total repression. This happened later, obviously, but noone really cares about that "elections". Also, it should be noted that the NSDAP never actually had a majority of voters behind it.

Also, the SS did not really play a huge role within the NS-Organisation until the "Röhm Putsch", which was in 1934.

Regarding the map, you should really think of renaming it. Not only will it make a lot of people, me included, pretty uncomfortable, you should also consider if you want this name to be the sole defining factor. Half of the thread about your map has not even looked at it, and is only talking about a name. Now you could use that as a marketing ploy, but that is really despictable.

People play this game for fun, and most people don´t find it particularly fun to be reminded of the insanity which could grab hold of a whole people. Maybe i am a bit overly sensitve because i am from Germany, however, i don´t think that KZs and Gaschambers should be something you have fun with.

Since you haven't read the comments, you don't know that mappers have said this wouldn't make a good competetive map, but has nice concepts.
