I voted impartial, but somewhere between that and Dont like it.

Basically.. The current system of amature casters using services like YouTube is really really good from the viewer standpoint. The GomTV clean source system doesn't seem like it matches up (from the end-user experience, no idea if it is easier for the casters themselves). Harder to navigate, harder to find videos, lower quality, etc etc.

But on the otherhand if people using it is going to further encourage GomTV to keep extending their reach to the foreign community; it is a good thing.

I am just not looking forward to the inevitable day when suddenly OGN/MBC/GOM decide to start sending shakedown letters to youtubed matches. :| Starting to gear up their own fan-cast systems seems like a (small) step in that direction. But if the result of walking in that direction is professional english casting for the other leagues as well... Then perhaps that is a worthy trade off.

This post sounds like a relatively favorable review of the system.

I think the current system is good, and Nick already speaks English. But I guess if it is used for non-English non-Korean live casts it could be ok.

yeah I found it after some more searching. Being in the featured section makes things harder to find and get less views for whatever reason.

I'm looking forward to hearing random casters who will shout hilarious comments and oddities throughout the entire game while most of that excitement would be in response to the immediate action rather than overall strategy/analysis.

It seems like a good idea and gom is doing excellent job helping the foreign community, but it also seems redundant. People make youtube commentaries because there is no other english commentary out there. But is gomtv's casting tool only for gom's vids? Most of these (all but msl?) tastless is already casting and doing a fine job so why would people need to do it over again? The only use I see is for making fun vids for close friends/family to see, not appealing to the masses at all.

Anyways this opinion is based on assumptions I made, does anyone know if those assumptions were correct or not?

Well, it's not just for English speakers, what about all the other languages we speak here at TL? If you could cast it in your native language and then try and get your friends to watch SC with you - the bigger the foreign community gets.

Definably a plus- if you don't speak english or korean, who is going to cast for you? This allows everyone to try to cast, not just english speakers/korean speakers.

That being said, I bet that if you try to cast in english/korean, not very many people are going to choose to listen to you over choosing to listen to tasteless.

I dont think I would ever use it because of the type of person I am, but I think this is a great opportunity for the community to find talented new casters. Anything that can help the english starcraft community is good to me. I hope the other leagues can follow in GOM's footsteps and realise that the english community is one worth targeting.

Would be quite a good learning experience to listen to your second or third language getting casted.

Given the ammount of korean i've picked up purely from watching VODs, i'm sure watching a few spanish, french, italian & german casts would do my vocabulary good. Any words i'm not familiar with - i'll look 'em up, but mostly you can figure it out from context unless it's a local reference or saying.

I think Tasteless is still fairly amateur. Don't get me wrong, he's hillarious to listen to and is quite knowledgable but he still makes amateur mistakes and covers them up with his comedy. I think others can sprout with the same style and appeal just as well.

Although great idea for other non-english speaking websites, those who listen to english (i.e. pretty much all of TL) will be listening to our very own commentator, Tasteless.

Nothing stops GomTV to add the same navigation options that Youtube has, they just released, it's just in beta stage it will improve. And Youtube is not designed for SC, GomTV is. So once they add more features it could be MUCH better than Youtube for watching commented vods. For example, it could allow you to navigate through date, league type, commentator, language etc etc

This has the potential to be 100 billion times better than Youtube. Which increases the size of the foreign community. Which means more sponsors in future tournaments, better money prizes, leading to foreign pro players etc etc

This is absolutely huge for every SC player of any level. Wish you all could comprehend how big this is.
Great people talk about ideas. Average people talk about things. Small people talk about other people.

it's a good idea in general, but they have to stop the live broadcasts which are allowed while nick is casting ...
i guess they're ruining the the bandwidth for the main-stream^^

and i agree w/ Durak...
tasteless is sometimes(on other occasions he's really brilliant) not "professional" enough ....
badly organized and mixing up facts or words ....
seems he spent more time on clubbing than on other things

but on the other hand maybe he was just nervous cuz of the grand finals and being on the cam for a longer time yesterday

it`s an interesting tool, but if it steals bandwidth and causes the stream to stop (like it did for me during the finals on more than one occasion), then i dont like it.

it`s nice that ppl can broadcast in other langauges, but each language doesnt need a million casters at the same time.

It's a website, it will have OS X support. Alternatively, In the same antagonizing tone, get a PC.

Hopefully GOMtv broadcasts enough quality games so GOMcast doesn't die. I wonder if they will let users upload their games and commentate (Like White-Ra's commentaries). It's up to GOMtv to make it more useable than youtube.

At the same time, all the MSL/OSL games will have to still have youtube commentaries because I doubt they'll let their material be GOMcasted.

the very first few days that they made the GOMcasts available, the GOM servers were under such heavy load that no one i knew could watch anything live (tried both the tasteless and other streams). this may have just been an issue with where I am located, but I think that this problem was extremely widespread. it is a decent idea, but personally I think that they should make it easier to use and make sure to work out everything on their end before making it available. Also they should let users rate/vote on casters etc so you can easily search for the top rated cast for any given language. A library of past user broadcasts would also be nice (how are we going to rate them if we can't even possibly watch them all?).

so basically i think the idea is okay, although I don't like GOM's implementation of it; they are just missing too many useful features.

( i havnt used gomcast but i know alot about it )

i wouldn't use it simply because my voice sucks, and i dont think i would be a good shout caster such as
diggitysc
combat-ex
klazartsc

ex, but its a good idea! but i dont see many people using it.

thats so wrong on many levels.

tastless is a professional. hes been in all the major tournament such as

gomtv, singapore 2005 or 2006, blizcon2007 star invitational. theres ALOT more, but please note tatless is not a amature. and when you say he makes mistakes note. he is the only english shoutcaster so,. you try speaking for 3-4 hours without making mistakes :p
