That's completely different. The image trick only works locally for you. But you really give your IP, browser etc info to every internet site you visit.
Some years ago there was also the popular trick to embed an iframe with the contents of your harddisk(pure client side) and then sell the shocked people a program which "protects" them.

I totally thought it was me and I thought everyone was just making fun of me.. I legitimately did not have a flattering image (I'm an asian that can grow a full beard and it was beastly long). I immediately changed my picture and wrote words on my FB pics.. eventually, you can see my name, school, year, more pics, everything.. I was so scared I changed EVERYTHING and almost deactivated my account.

Kind of owned yeah. Just opened the thread, saw my pic, thought "huh???", took one look at the length of the thread and immediately suspected a buried dog.. still tho, very owned for the first few seconds.
