To be honest this is pretty much mine as well, but I voted for 3-5 since SC2 is when I got really into the competitive stuff. Until then it was custom games at best, and even then I switched to WC3 for a pretty large amount of time.

In 1998 i couldnt be arsed to play Starcraft since there was nothing called RTS in my life, i had way too much fun with Quake 2 at all LAN's everywhere. In 1999-0x there was this natural followup, Quake3 all the way, 01-03/04 The MMORPG genre made it's introduction to me, my friend told me about a new beta game coming out soon, Dark Age of Camelot, i only had a small experience before with mmo's but never really got into it for real in everquest, or evercrack as they said back in the days, when someone got a bit rusty at quake they always joked they had played too much evercrack ;P. Anyway DAoC was awesome and took me to heaven everytime i played, (there was absolutey no chance in hell to discover the RTS genre for me here either), i even played both english and italian beta i remember after eachother. 2006 i started playing WoW, nothing more need to be said about that, played until 2011 i think, with some breaks ofcourse. I think it was 2010 or early 2011 my brother came home with a thick strategy/tips/info book together with a game called Starcraft 2, was a supersuprise and i wondered why he had bought that and was it for me?, i think he had heard me talking with some friends on teamspeak that it would be nice to try something totally new. I dont think i actually would ever had bought it for myself tbh, RTS was still pretty far away for me, for me it had only been about FPS & MMO's. So to the point, i started to play sc2 in 2010/11. My first love in the competitive scene was White-Ra, remember seing him on dreamhack, didnt know shit about who he was or where he came from, only knew he had funny accent ;P And then i heard about a guy called Day9, i think it was on dreamhack i saw him first time and soon i also discovered his famous videos etc, after that, there was no way in hell going back to fps or mmorpg's for the time being. Build Orders became the funniest thing in the world and at one point i cared more for build orders than the game itself. Well that was something about my gaminglife, over and out!

Played SC Shareware TvT for a week or so until I bought SC shortly after it came out. Played until 2002 actively with my first bw game being against Liquid`Nazgul (fu lurkers) and then switched over to CSTRIKE when a lot of the community began to disappear (I played in Ladder Challenges usually and sometimes korean servers or an AUS server). I played a week here n there every few years after 2002, but never really got back into it. Starting to play some SC2 now, but I'm totally clueless on a lot of the new units :[

If you played with $Playaz$ (Vanilla BGH channel mostly), toyclan, or 1st~ at some point in those days I probably ran into you. Helped admin the gitm ladder arka)dream made as well after cloud ladder fell apart. It was fun while it lasted, I enjoyed every minute of it from the days when I tried to run 1v1 tourneys with brackets written on the lids of pizza boxes to the random smurfs that would often challenge me to games (looking at you Eri). Does a bnet community even exist anymore? Or is it mainly just restricted to posting on tl and adding random players you play against?

I started at 1999 in BW, but 2000 I started online.
Those good old days when hunters maps lasted over 1 hour 30% of the times :D.

I wonder how many years the people that voted 15+ have actually played out of the 15. Probably only a few have taken a break shorter than a year, if any. I voted 3-5 despite playing it since 2000, because that is way more accurate.

I was reading CWAL stories about StarCraft, waiting for StarCraft to come out; that's like 15+ months of just impatiently waiting. We're reaching back 17ish years here fellahs..just think of all the Nonfictional regimes Kerrigan has outlasted.
