  • New KTF MagicNS Head Coach
  • Why Bisu in the Ace Match? Analysis by Fomos
  • UPDATED: Incruit Starleague

Meet the new face in town

SOURCE: http://www.fomos.co.kr

Coach Kim Chul is no more. On July 28th, Lee Ji Hoon has replaced him as the brand new head coach of KTF after being noted for his exceptional leadership skills and great personality. Many of you probably haven't heard of this guy before, but he has been around the progaming scene for a while. Coach Lee is actually an ex-FIFA Progamer who has won several big FIFA tournaments including Singapore Masters FIFA 2004. Furthermore, KTF is also looking to strengthen its coaching staff by hiring more Strategical Coaches.

"KTF is full of talented players. To truly utilize all these talents, changes must be made," said Coach Lee.

Read on to see what else he has to say + T1 vs OGN Ace Match Analysis:

Q: Feelings on your new position as the KTF Head Coach?
Coach Lee: It was actually a very abrupt and last minute news for me. Therefore, I feel more burdened by responsibility than anything right now. Only thought I have right now is..I must work hard.

Q. Have you found the problem KTF has been having?
Coach Lee: Because KTF has so many big name players, everyone sort of seems to act on his own. When you combine all those star players together, you are bound to lack teamwork and unity. Also, it was difficult for new players to settle in with several players retiring and leaving the team. Last season, YellOw, Reach, and Nal_Ra have did an excellent job holding the team together and KTF performed pretty well. I was able to find more possibilities rather than problems.

Q:You have to hire new strategy coaches.
Coach Lee: I am thinking of hiring someone who's returning from the army. I think someone with that kind of experience is able to focus more on his job. Since Coach Cho (Chojja) is leaving in a year or two we really need a replacement. Ex-progamer would be awesome. It would be hard to find one like that, but I hope we find someone who is passionate and understands the game well.

Why is the question. Why did Bisu play in the Ace match of the Proleague Finals between SKT1 and OGN Sparkyz? Why not Midas? Fomo gives some insight that might answer your questions. (I am going to change some wordings to sound more dramatic)

1) Why did Bisu play in the ace match?
This is the burning question that everyone has been wondering, myself included. Out of all the players on the SKT1 roster, why did they pick Bisu to play in the ace, especially after he got owned by Chalrenge on Katrina? It wouldn't a big deal if this was determined prior to the match.
But was it really pre-determined? Or was it heat of the moment thing?
"Bisu was planned to play in the ace match all along, regardless of the result of his earlier game," said Coach Park.

So that's that. But another question rises...Why did they pick Bisu to play in the Ace instead of Midas, who had the best season record in the entire team?

2) Why not Midas?

You can probably guess the reason and it actually is pretty simple. The mind game! By sending out BeSt instead of Midas on a Terran friendly map Othello, T1 was hoping to snipe one of OGN's strong Terran line. That would automatically make OGN assume that Midas will be playing in the ace.

"We knew almost certainly that Luxury will OGN's ace, and we wanted to cause some confusion by doing this," said Coach Park.

Going back a little farther, SKT1 narrowed down the ace player list to Bisu, BeSt, and Midas. They chose Bisu in the end because the whole team was aware of his outstanding ability and had faith in him. Especially vs Zerg.

One question remains, what was OGN's prediction for T1's ace?

3) What did OGN think?
Yes, they were confused. Very confused. However, that confusion did not last long. After looking at a T1 lineup that didn't include Midas, OGN immediately determined that a Protoss player was more likely to play in the Ace than a Terran. Coach Lee immediately ordered Luxury to practice primarily vs Protoss, and it worked. They even knew Bisu was the one they would have to face. Why? Well, I mean, it's basically a 50/50 chance since it's either BeSt or Bisu. But they were both in other matches. Hmm..

You see, Colosseum is a map that BeSt has played the most and understands it extremely well. When Coach Lee saw BeSt placed in the second match on Othello, he knew right away that BeSt would FULLY concentrate on sniping a Terran. Almost impossible for him to prepare for both that AND the ace match.

(Note: OGN Terrans have always been infamous for having awful TvPs. Leta was 1-7 or something as well before winning like 3 in a row. Probably the reason that T1 was confident BeSt would pull through on Othello.)

Final Call: In retrospect, it was a bad idea to put BeSt on Othello. It was a map he has played only ONE official PL game before and lost. Consequently, he could not prepare for the ace match on Colosseum, where he is jawdropping 7-0. Still, a very entertaining match and best of luck to OGN in the finals!

Ever Starleague no more. Incruit Starleague!

Incruit.com is a well-known employment website based in Korea. On July 29th, the Incruit Starleague qualifiers officially began and is still in the process.

Additionally, there are some format changes as well. Instead of the traditional dual tournament style, there will be a Round of 36. It will consist of 12 players from last Starleague, and 24 new players who have qualified through offline tournaments.

Here's how it works:
1) 36 players - 24 from offline qualifiers + 12 from last Starleague (Unseeded ones)
2) Total of 12 groups will be formed in RO36. 3 In each group - 2 from offline qualifiers and 1 from last Starleague.
3) 2 players from offline qualies face each other in a BO3.
4) Winner of that match plays another BO3 vs the player from last Starleague.
5) Winner moves on to Round of 16, along with 4 seeded players from last Starleague.

New broadcast times as well.
Starting August 4th, games will be played on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. (Korean time)
*From August 18th to August 23rd, matches will be played EVERYDAY.

Seeded players:
STX SouL (Z)July
SK Telecom T1 (P)BeSt
OGN Sparkyz (Z)Luxury
Lecaf Oz (P)BackHo

that's the bit i don't get, did they assume the bluff? seems gutsy

Bisu wasn't a crazy call tho, he's most famous for his PvZ.

I'd guess lux would have been saved so he could practice purely on coliseum, and midas for mind games (& practice partners)

Yeah there are actually TONS of analysis articles.
There is a nice lengthy analysis/preview of the upcoming Proleague Finals. You know, one of those ...which team has the edge in this and that...what must team A do to win...

I gotta dip for now but I can work on that later :p

Yeah I guess so. Coach Lee said Luxury prepared vs Protoss a lot more than he did vs Terran
