Expanding to 32 IS pretty crazy, but atleast they got rid of their really weird format (group stages = dual league style, quarters = dual league style)

There's gonna be more to follow, but it'll be easier to follow. Maybe the old system was more fair, but unless you're really into it, it was harder to follow

i think there's actually fewer games in this as there were for the 24 player OSL... i think i suggested going up to 32 players before.

ro24 OSL: 6 groups of 4, round robin = 6 games, * 6 groups = 36 games
wildcards: 6 3rd places players = 6 games? total 42.

this is assuming no tiebreakers, which would push up the game count even more.

ro32 MSL: 8 groups of 4, 5 games per group (2 initial games, winners bracket, losers bracket, final) = 40 games

then both formats are down to 16 players.

so we get more players, games that count for more, and still a manageable number of games.
I BELIEVE IN CAPITAL LETTER PUNISHMENT!!!!!

I am fine with this, because the two best from each group will carry on, rather than the lame duck 3rd place finishers who did in the OSL.

I totally agree. That lame duck process made OSL SOOOOOO complicating.

Sounds good. A lot of new players will get their chance to shine on TV, but the format is still simple.

And then went straight to the finals?

Anyway, nice thing IMHO, but we'll see how it fares and what the schedules will be like in the future...

Well, it happened twice that a player who should have been eliminated with the old system got to the final, Nada and Casy. Which is good for them, but eventually the groups lost their meaning because of this. Group stage is supposed to eliminate people, not to let them train.

I hope this 32 men league remain simple, it might be hard to follow. But it's a nice thing, we'll get to see lots of faces, different styles, that should be good.

I have pretty mixed feelings about that.
Following progaming will take even more time now. It will also increase VOD up-/downloading traffic.
Same with coverage. Not that this was of any concern for me, but it has to be considered.

True but at least familiar names will be more familiar.
If the tourney is a top 32 instead of top 16, we can still see faces like Reach and Kingdom more easily and maybe even Zeus.

Yellow can also lose around 32 too, etc.
In short, having more players also means more familiarity in a way... and in a way a lot more no namers too...

I've MSL gets bigger and OSL shrinks then there be about the same number of games, no ? I didn't bother to count cuz the OSL prelims are so fucking hard to undrestand. :D
