Tournament Roundup - Aug 1-14 2011
August 18th, 2011 18:24 GMT
Results for August 1 – August 14, 2011
Greetings and welcome to International Tournament Roundup! Sick of wading through countless threads, posts, and articles looking for recent SC2 tournament results? The TeamLiquid International Tournament Roundup is the one-stop shop for all of your tournament result needs, and it's coming to you twice each and every month.
Don't be fooled, the GSL is great, but there's a massive amount of talent outside of Korea. Foreign juggernauts are battling it out in epic games, and in epic tournaments, on a daily basis. After all, our boys have more than proven that they can compete.
Who's the current top dog outside of Korea?
Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. Don't blame me, blame the event admins. I can't do their job for them. Thanks!

Total Prizemoney: ~$166,741 USD (+ Prizes!)
Top Dog There's a ton of powerhouses outside of Korea, but who's this edition's top dog? Let's take a look at which players have posted the most impressive results over the past 2 weeks.
Note: This isn't a simple prize-money or medals ranking. It is based upon a combination of overall player performance, quality of competition, significance of events won, money won, activity, and my most sincere attempt at unbiased subjectivity. It only considers performances in events which concluded within this period.
+ Show Spoiler [Honorable Mentions] +![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1221.jpg) GoOdy !! The always consistent Panzer General managed to expectantly make his weekly rounds, cleaning up a 4pl.de Cup, a Gigabyte Cup, PolarfluKe's August tournament, and a 2nd place finish in the 4th XMG Cup. GoOdy performed decently in the IGN Proleague, ending up tied for 9th place. Not a bad set of results, but it's unfortunately not enough for the hero of consistency to break past the staggering amount of huge event winners this past couple weeks. Total Prizewinnings: ~$1,568 USD ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1137.jpg) Tarson !! This Polish underdog has really begun to shine lately. If you're not impressed with Tarson yet, you certainly should be. The only gold he managed to snatch up was at a Gamecreds Cup, but he additionally showed some solid overall performances, placing 2nd in the ZOTAC Monthly July Final, 4th in the European Battle.Net Invitational, and placing in the middle of the pack in the highly competitive IPL Season 2. Tarson continues to prove he's not a 1-hit wonder, continuing to take huge matches off of elite players. Total Prizewinnings: ~$3,032 USD ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1795.jpg) ThorZaIN !! Now ripping it up in Korea, this Swedish powerhouse Terran still made a splash outside of it. The reigning TSL champion barely evaded the finals of both the European Battle.Net Invitational and IPL Season 2, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. With two solid results in two of the highest caliber events in the foreign scene, it's comforting to know that this elite Terran is representing foreign pride in the GSTL. Total Prizewinnings: ~$7,000 USD ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/980.jpg) ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1825.jpg) ![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1173.jpg) Ret, SeleCT, and MajOr !! Meet the three champions of the Battle.Net Invitational events held this past couple weeks. Each of these guys took home a whopping $10,000 as well as an invite to the always-exciting Blizzcon tournament. Ret hammered through Europe's event, also grabbing a nice 7th/8th place finish at IPL2. SeleCT dominated the North American event, and lastly MajOr slayed his fellow Latin Americans to take the top slot in his region, as well as additionally winning a small Xel'Naga Tour event. Be very excited to see these guys clash at Blizzcon this October! Total Prizewinnings: ~$11,000 / ~$10,800 / ~$10,050 USD

Top Dog + Show Spoiler [The Top Dog] +![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1214.jpg) MaNa !! I'm probably going to get a little flak for this, but hear me out. This Polish Protoss monster finished top 3 in both Assembly (2nd) AND IGN Proleague Season 2 (3rd), the two clear largest events that took place recently. No other player came close to doing so. These aren't 8-man invite tournaments, these are full-scale battlefields where only the best of the best compete. Let's take a look at his victims from these two events in series play: HuK, NaDa, SjoW, BRAT_OK, Fenix, ThorZaIN, Jimpo, IdrA, DarKFoRcE (twice). Having only lost BO5 series matches in the final rounds of these events, he barely dropped each of these in a close 2-3 war against the eventual champion. Also, while it seems almost insignificant, it should be mentioned that he also snagged the runner-up spot in a Gigabyte Cup. Just a cherry on top of his performance as this edition's Top Dog! Total Prizewinnings: ~$11,822 USD
Medal Podium
Note: Only players with multiple non-showmatch podium appearances are included.

Nerchio AGAIN with so insane performance! ^^ Gotto love DIMAGA to!... ♥ Thanks for the write up, love readin through these! :D
Good timing putting this up right after Mana owned his group in IEM. Good job him, and everyone else thats a lot of money for a 15 day period.
Wow! Biggest pool of money yet? Nerchio must be getting a very respectful amount of money.
I wonder if his team gives him a good salary. If so, he is getting even more.
"While it's not surprising to see the roundup's mascot show up once again" Jinro should look out as his picture might be getting replaced soon
Ukraine brethren reppin it up there! Though White-Ra slightly higher for schooling some people in recent TL Attack, at least in my book
really cool writeup again. And nice to see Mana up there after that preformance today.
Totally agree with Mana. That guy has had an absolute beastly month so far
$166k got won in the last 2 weeks? I had no idea it was that much.. madness! Got to agree with the top 4 you picked too, great roundup
After IEM today no one will say anything about MaNa being to dog Sweet writeup as always.
Woooooow so much money this time around. And so many good tournaments too. What an awesome month of SC.
Lots of money for this roundup. Greate summary as always. Thanks very much.
Polish players on rampage, not bad.
Had a feeling it would be MaNa guy has been on a tear lately with those wins he also managed to smash some nerds in the EG masters cup both in 1v1 and 2v2 while now doing really well at IEM.
Does that say....Deezer? That Deezer?
Wow im so happy Poland & Ukraine delivered, i hope EURO 2012 goes as smooth as this^^
Nice Write-up, but I think Ret should have made it at least into the honorable mentions (And he also is not in the statistics).

How could I miss him? I´m really sorry for the silly critisism.
Nerchio's gotta be earning now more than his parents combined :D
Anyway, great writeup! I hope a bit to see a yearly, or half-a-year roundup.
Mana and Nerchio both fairly consistent and performing well!
god, great write-up!!!!! love you <333 agreed on MaNa btw !
wait isnt deezer french canadian? y does it say hes american
Nerchio should tie with Mana for #1 if it wasn't for his offline performance jitters, he's so good, such a shame he gets nervous. I can't believe Stephano wasn't in the honorable mentions though >=O he plays like a boss.
haha Deezer... but yeah good top picks although idk about nerchio but he did dominate through IPL until he hit the BEAST FROM THE EAST
Deezer puttin up results.. Rumor is that EG might pick him up.
This kind of makes me want to apply my old ranking system to SC2 since it appears there isn't really a ranking in place for SC2 just yet.
Holy shit that's a lot of money this time around, but then again the Blizzard invitationals did add $30,000 just for first place prizes and however much more for the rest.
Also, White-Ra with $16,000, not bad for two weeks.
Wow so many big tournaments ending at this point. Glad to see White-Ra and Dimaga get a podium place!

Very nice to see MaNa in the top spot. The kid deserves a lot of praise for his recent performances, and it's really unfortunate that he doesn't have a big win under his belt. Here's to hoping that'll change at the IEM Cologne and he'll evade the cursed kong fate.
Wow I didn't realize just how well Mana's been doing until reading this write-up.
Great writeup and top dog. It really was about time for MaNa to shine. It's great to see the foreign BW players out in force too. Ret, Major, Dimaga, White-Ra and MaNA hwaiting!
Wow, so much money flying around. Crazy :S
looks like EU is owning right now
I love these tournament roundups, putting them together must be such a pain but it's an awesome way to present the information.
Lol dat Deezer. Great job Nerchio, Thorzain, Whitera, and all of those other fellas.

happy for whitera and dimaga lol, I see pros are making good money lately
It's pretty crazy how the amount of money goes up every two weeks! Dimaga's games at assembly were definitely a blast to watch!

Big money. That is all i can say - big big money! All these battle.net invitationals are pumping up the prize pool as well
Thanks for this again!
Jesus christ, 166k cash money. Is this the highest pay-out month thus far?
God Nerchio is an absolute beast he must make so much money with his team supporting him already along with the tons of prize money he gets in only 14 days. Also I'm glad SelecT finally won a big event. Who woulda thought Mana would rip apart everybody

Yep, the NASL set of 2 weeks is 2nd with 136k. What makes this 2 weeks so cool is that not only is it the biggest, it's not just one huge event that's carrying all the cash.
Goody fiiiiiiiiiiiiightiiiiiiiiiin!
Salut the panzer general.
Insane money. Give this link to you parants that tell you to studie instead of playing sc2!!
MarineKingPrime.we also won a south pacific tournament worth 5k against nGenMaster. TvZ Sadly no link to show tournament. Huge prize pool that mkp won easily. 2raxed 2xs didnt even need a bunker.... it was sick micro 2raX expand both times... he had fully teched up on two bases while microing 4-6 marines and killed the zerg both times with just the marines it looked like a very easy way to win 5k.

To be fair, the blizzard invitationals are like 80k by itself :p
Definitely a good sign that the foreigner scene start to consistently beat Korea in prize money payouts.
No flak for making Mana champ, that's an insane roster that he ran through.

Heh, I guess you're right. They are kind of the 'same' event, but since they all happened separately I guess it's deceiving
Nerchio always in the top, amazing guy
Gogo mouz guys, HasuObs and MaNa!
Yeah, I love how Mana owns up lately!
Damnit GoOdy, why do you win so much? To quote a great thinker,
"ALL I DO IS FUCKIN WIN"
- T-Pain
Mana has been playing so well, deffiantly deserve sit and Nerchio online is fantastic too, cant wait to see where Nerchio ends up in his first porper offline tournament
So much money on the line in this roundup.. :o
EU players reeling in the money.
If every two weeks of StarCraft 2 were like this, that would be about $4.3 million in prizes for StarCraft 2 each year!

I will say it again:
Nerchio to Liquid'Nerchio would be so cool.
Mana totally deserves it, he's better than ever atm!
Grats to deezer for winning 110 dollars lol
Amazing work as always. Goody as usual, this guy is...I dunno...he's something else. And no flak for choosing Mana, because his play is just at the top level atm.
mana has been on fire. so much good sc2 in the last weeks. can we updated the jinro picture on the front page of the article?
Another great writeup, thank you very much! I am always looking forward to the roundups. Not the easiest month to pick the top dog but your reasoning made perfect sense to me.
First time I really looked at this thread. The Tournament Round up is epic. It must take a lot of time to compile this information. Big thanks! I'll check them out from now on
So cool to look at how far prize pools have come since the first Tournament Roundup!
WTF why is deezer on the medal podium!!!!
My god mana is raking in the dough- So good, on fire
Mouz.Mana is one of these players who really doesn't get the cred he deserves, but he's a damn monster! MANA to win... everything.
winning more than $10,000 in half a month and Legitimizing esports at the same time
wow im just impressed by mana, he said he was playing mostly pokemon and not practicing sc the last time. So imagine how good this guy could become by fully practicing in a korean style teamhouse, or is even the lightness with which he takes the game what makes him so good? i dont know man, but what i know is that he is just awesome and fully deserves this.
ah and i miss kas there at these top spots, maybe he was too busy with laddering xDDD
Awesome month!
So many different people winning big tournaments. Mainly cause the US / EU and LA blizzard invitationals so that boosts the price pool by a lot!
Feels like the Dimaga win was so long ago but it was just 2 weeks ago. Feels strange
What a sick, sick past couple of weeks we've had. Big tournaments and big prize money being thrown all around. 7 guys made more than $10k these past 2 weeks. E-sports ftw.
MaNa has been playing really good lately, crazy crazy!!!
mana = beast being 17 and getting almost 12k$/month sic!

thank you so much Mikilatov, these posts are amazing feature to TL

Why didn't Deezer get an honorable mention? Oh right, honorable. No srs face: excellent article I enjoyed reading it Thank you.

These roundups are great. Just wanted to say thanks.

Wow some big money in these two weeks. Jesus.
Oh my god I've never seen so many big prizes in short amount of time like that. It seems like ESPORTS is growing rapidly
Goody needs to get better mechanics-- I don't understand why he keeps winning tournaments. Nerchio is a boss, and poor Hwangsin keeps getting 2nd
