Boxer vs Yellow
Game 1, Game 2, Game 3.
Maps dont matter, starting positions dont matter. It was all the same.
Boxer rax -> depot, 6 scv + 2 marine rush, Yellow 12 hatch evertime, gg x3. In only one game did Yellow even get a unit other than a drone, overlord, or zergling.
The rush by Boxer was perfect. His timing was such that unless Yellow went pool first, there was no way he could stop this rush. Boxer said after he wanted to play an low economy control based game, but instead he just won.
I have my own opinion on this strategy, but last time I posted it it was rebuffed vigorously. :p However, add your two cents in the tourny section where there are three threads going at it.
Nov 19th: Yellow vs Reach for third place.
Nov 20th: Boxer vs Iloveoov in the finals.

Haha, best battle report ever.
I stayed up all night to read about this (many props to waxangel ^^) and this is what we get.
Sure, you gotta respect the skill it took to do that, but I mean, it's just so disappointing, I think everyone was expecting exciting, epic games... and instead we get pure rape.

i say who cares what happans, a win is a win!. its sad how people diss boxer because of 3 cheese rushes!, but when you think about it, whos " sadder " Boxer for doing it? or Yellow because he lost to it 3 times? hohoho. Cheap or not cheap, he won so get over it : )

I really think it should have been a more detailed battle report. It must have been small differences in bo(like one scv extra somewhere). Or perhaps which way he scouted. Where he put the bunker and why that was the perfect spot etc etc.
Ps. It was not my intention to sound rude or offensive. I just find a bit odd that these games which clearly was very entertaining get one line and some pathetic standard game that ends in marine/medic/tank/vessel after 15 minutes gets 30 lines.

Of course... Boxer supporters will say that Boxer played perfectly, and that Yellow should've adjusted... Boxer haters will say it was cheap and cheesy...
I'm just let down that it was over so quickly. I wanted to see some GG's, even though I still predicted Boxer winning in the end. How often these days do you not only get two art players together, but the top two art players of all time?
Now the finals will be art vs macro TvT~

i dont see why this is considered cheap or cheesy, his build was simply designed to punish fast expo and guess what? yellow fast expo.
its the same principle as making zels to counter tanks or goons to counter vultures

I recall waitiing last week for nice, juicy reports of this megaton clash, and lo and behold, we find that Boxer bunkered Yellow three times in a row. Fantastic.

actually, i think game 1 was pretty different than games 2 and 3 (both of which ended with yellow's inability to beat the scv/rine rush). so i'll just recap quickly what i remember.
yellow actually had a shot in game 1 on pellennor ever, although he clearly was at a disadvantage from boxer's devastating scv rush. if i recall the game correctly, when boxer came in with the rush, yellow cancelled his hatch right before it finished (and boxer correspondingly also cancelled his bunker almost simultaneously). boxer then went a fast acad build and retreated back home and started massing m and m. yellow went *3 hatch*, taking his gas expo. this is where i think yellow could have just decided to get faster lurker out of 2 hatch, so he could actually play more aggressively. i suppose this decision of yellow was partly because of the map imbalance (as it's too easy for zerg to get pinned in if terran takes that cliff area where the gas expo is). but in any case, as yellow went a very hungry 3 hatch, boxer massed m and m outside yellow's base and teched to tank/vessel. yellow went lurker and boxer very importantly made a wraith from his port which really was a thorn in yellow's side-- not only hunting overlords, but forcing yellow to cancel a morphing lurker as well and demanding more micro from yellow. In the meantime boxer set up shop outside yellow's choke with m&m/tank, slowly building turret/bunker to solidify that position. yellow could have tried to research drop but instead chose to try to break the gauntlet with link/lurk from three different directions. but ~ 6 lurk/20 ling vs. 2 well-placed bunkers, turrets, 3~4 tanks, and at least 1 control group of m&m meant that he failed to break boxer's hold on his choke, and yellow's subsequent attempt around 45 seconds later with around 12 lings and 5 lurks was also a failure. that's when yellow gg'ed.
i think yellow had a few opportunities to win or at least extend the game further-- i personally think it was a big mistake to take his gas natural before getting lurkers, and also to try to force his way out of his base through a pretty much invincible tank/bunker/turret/m&m line instead of researching ovie drop/speed. but of course, it's easier said than done and hindsight is 20/20 ;P

i think that boxer is dishonor himself, and yellow also should be ashamed by not handling it after 3 times///... i just think it was stupid because any body could have done that i dont think just boxer, just like how newbs can sometimes catch people who are better offguard when you dont expect an all out ling rush or you dont expect that you need to build a terran wall.. just as most pros dont build walls, a newb might be able to catch them offguard with such cheapness,.... godammit im so pissed both people i wanted to win lost from dumbness Reach playing wierd, and Yellow getting cheased!

Our pros are built to handle almost anything, be it rushes or surprises. But from what Im reading, Boxers cheese works because the timing is so critical, and he nails that. But Yellow had to be stubborn and went with the same build.

argh i hate bunker rush but boxer has shown once again that he's extremly unordinary player, respect for him. I'm dissapointed though, that we could have had a superb spectacle and instead the were only 3 crappy games :/

if u let zerg fast expand on a gas map...he will take another gas expansion later on...make swarm rush with lurker and then make ultras meanwhile...i think even boxer realise the most effective strategy against zerg is rush..hoho

Meh, I don't think that zergy is getting too good, it's just that boxer knew that if he could surprise yellow with an offbeat strategy then that's a better idea than playing into what yellow has prepared for. The thing is that each player must have had strats prepared for the other, so boxer just figured 'HAHA, i'll get my prep in first!' This just shows the good logical thinking of Boxer & his awersome ability in micro. But i think that yellow's stubborness not to adjust to Boxer's strats is shocking. I remember yellow as the most flexible player ever, i find it hard to beleive that he got creamed x3 in a row by the same strat, he must have been so demorilised by the 1st game...

For me this strategy was awensome.
Boxer use his mind, he knows that yellow wouldn't expect this strategy and he will play to make advetage on the start.

in light of the fact that some of us with insufficient posts are unable to view the VOD's, in the future it would be nice to have proper battle reports, hopefully with pictures, regardless of how people felt about the match.

i just watched the videos, oh jesus, i would have destroyed the studio after THAT match... normally i always want boxer to win. but next time they face each other in an important game, my wishes will be for yellow. that guy needs a damn break from getting boxered

I was expecting much more exciting and closer games, like 3-2 Boxer or 3-2 Yellow.
They were still pretty good because it showed how Boxer practiced it perfectly and how he managed to suceed 3 times in a row.

it's disturbing how many people are disappointed at boxer for his play and feel he should have made an effort to "entertain" the public...?!!?! would prefer to watch boxer and yellow in something of a WWE style choreographed long game of broodwar with lots of pre planned cute stuff and showboating? i know i wouldn't, that would be fake and shitty and get very very dull. playing to win is where the entertainment comes from.

yea, i know alot of ppl have already said this but the bottem line is, they are pros. The play starcraft to get paid and their FIRST priority is to win and if they HAPPEN to be entertaining then all the better:D You can express all the dissapointment you want but to try to excuse the or take away the "honor" ( or w/e) from the players really isn't your place and its like getting mad at a plumber for fixing your toliet as fast and effiecntly as possible-_- Opinion wise i agree with Epiphany, do you really want sc to turn into another WWE?!!
