Tournament Roundup #3

Welcome to this week's tournament recap! The GSL finally kicked off in Korea and narrowed the field down to 64. Major League Gaming hit Raleigh and some of the best players in North America and Europe played for thousands of dollars in prizes. Meanwhile, the reliably awesome parade of smaller tournaments marched on. Looking to get a grip on all of it? You're in the right place.

Each week we will bring you a link-heavy thread summarising the results from the minor tournaments from the past week - linking replays [image loading], vods [image loading], Liquipedia articles [image loading] and threads [image loading] where possible. This should be the only stop necessary to get a glimpse at how the competitive scene is shaping up! Note that this post won't be covering the results from the major tournaments, those will be covered by separate news posts.

GSL Open Qualifiers (8/28) The qualifiers wittled down a large field to 64 players competing for the $170,000 prize pool. Notable foreigners who have qualified include: Idra, TheLittleOne, Artosis and Torch.
[image loading][image loading][image loading]

MLG Raleigh (8/27-8/29). Canadian superhero Protoss HuK won over his countryman, the ascendant KiwiKaki, in an exciting tournament down in North Carolina.
[image loading][image loading]

Open Wolf Cup #6 (8/29) The Terran MorroW took a 3-0 series against last week's champion KawaiiRice to win the sixth iteration of this tournament.
[image loading][image loading]

King of SEA Nation War Series (29/08) The South East Asian Nation wars kicked off last week with the heavyweights Australia taking a bye. Singapore defeated the New Zealand team 3-1 while Thailand took out Indonesia 3-2. Vietnam stomped the Philippines 4-0 and currently are placed first - but how long will that last?
[image loading][image loading]

Fisher Cup #2 (8/29) Murder took home the prize over an impressive 64 player field in this $100 tournament. Murder defeated Cheese in the final.
[image loading][image loading]

ESL Pro Series Germany (8/24-11/23) The Pro Series continues with big names such as DeMusliM, HasuObs and Naniwa competing for gold. Check the spoiler for the results of this weeks games

The TeamLiquid Tournament Tracker is there for your convenience, check it out.

We're spoiled. As usual, many big tournaments are on the horizon. First and foremost, the GSL is beginning round of 64 play on September 4th. While drama surrounds many out-of-game decisions on the league's part, the expected astronomical quality of games has not changed one bit. The regular weekly tournaments will continue on giving us great StarCraft 2 action every day of the week.

If you are a tournament organiser and want to know how you can cooperate with TeamLiquid to promote your tournament, get into this weekly report and any queries in general - please contact Plexa who is in charge of TL's SC2 content. TL is always happy to help out grass roots tournaments and those who genuinely care about the community - so please contact Plexa to see what we can work out for you!

Until next week!

Damn Maka vs Genius was so back and forth.

+ Show Spoiler +
There was some times where Maka could have pushed forward and maybe taken the game but it feels like he sort of let Genius get back into the game somehow, and also seemed to be slipping on his macro quite a bit, also he forgot his armoy, so genius army was 1A/3W vs 1/1 from maka.

It is good to see that even the top koreans are playing "imperfect" games, forgetting upgrades and slipping on macromanagement. Shows that the game isn't as easy as people make it out to be, even at the top level.

Thx for keeping us informed. There's such a tourney frenzy with the lauch of SC2, sometime it's tough to keep up with everything and making the difference between the small events and the big events.

wow, these rounds up make following the scene so much easier, thank you very much for it.
one suggestion: maybe you can add recomended VODs for the hightlights of the tourneys?
or scratch that, let's create a thread for recomended sc2 games

GREAT content as always, thanks a bunch guys!

I am not involved, but there has been quite the little treat here in Norway as well. Electronic retailer chain Lefdal and Steelseries is sponsoring three rounds of the Lefdal SC2 cup arranged by sc2.no this autumn, with a pot of about $1600 in each round (about $5000) total.

Url: http://sc2.no/lefdal/
Click for Google translate

1st round just completed, with the following three coming out on top:
1. Kare (Terran)
2. Chi (Protoss)
3. Skruf (Zerg)
forgottendreams: One underage girl, two drunk guys, one gogo dancer and starcraft 2. Apparently just another day in Europe.
