Mostly because I've been watching pro StarCraft since being introduced to it by the GomTV Star Invitational. Even though my post count is low, I feel as though I have some affiliation with this website and some right to come out of the woodwork and have a crack at perhaps getting a beta key. The main reason I see that there are a lot of lurkers/low post count members on Teamliquid is because it is really encouraged by the atmosphere here. I personally think it was a conscious decision by the staff/moderators of this site to bolster the quality of content. Allow me to describe this atmosphere from a lurker/low post count member's perspective. The level of competition for StarCraft is incomparable to that of other RTS games. This isn't Company of Heroes section on Gamereplays.org where you can play 20 games and then parade your balance suggestions all over the forums. The time-frame is different to most other sites. This community is centred around an extremely well established and long standing game. It has a lot of veteran players and it has a lot of people who really know what they're talking about. Teamliquid also has a more adult attitude in regards to putting forward topics for discussion. The mods try their hardest to keep the quality high. That means people who make claims unsupported get shot down in flames, which isn't typical of all places on the internet. The atmosphere around here with a well established community, high quality discussion and knowledgeable and veteran players is very different from most other websites. Naturally people will feel inclined with such a well established and high quality community which focuses on experience, to post less and take on more of a spectator role. I feel the position I am in is not a particularly unique one. I know that there are a lot of people on this website who understand this game a lot better than I do and as such I feel like I would not be adding any quality to discussion if I were to post in most threads. Because of this I don't particularly post a lot and I'm sure this is the case with a lot of other people. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing. In fact I find it quite refreshing in comparison to other communities. The quality is kept high but naturally new players don't get to express themselves as much as on other websites. tl;dr - TL encourages people to lurk and it isn't a bad thing. Naturally there are going to be people with low post counts around here who feel they are some part of the community. In any case the 500 beta keys for teamliquid is great news! Hopefully now I can acquire one. Please don't talk to me about lurking. I've been lurking between 2004-2007 before I made an account in 2oo7. A strong community and high quality posting standards should motivate people. Noone is putting a knife to your neck, to create threads. Hell, even if I have almost 1K posts, I created less than 10 threads here myself since joining. I've been mostly just posting in someone elses' threads. In the beginning I was so intimidated by the high quality posting standards that I just stuck to Live Report threads and the Sports&Games section, not even wanting to go near Broodwar to not get into an argument with the vets and pros. I know well that it is intimidating, but the mods that close threads, aren't nazis for God's sake. They are reasonable people like you and me. They won't ban you for making a crap thread (unless it's in really bad taste like porn or now in the Starcraft 2 section), and you can always PM one of them to talk it out. You just have to be smart, and put effort into making a thread. Give it content, give it something to start a discussion over. Try to validate your points with examples. Isn't that just what school has taught you to communicate, anyway? It's not like you have to plan a thread Opening Post out over a week. In other cases just be polite while voicing your option. Also this is a Starcraft site, but you can find much much more here. We have general, SC2, blogs, sports and games. You don't always have to talk about SC when you post. You don't even need a lot of knowledge about the game. I remember reading a post in Broodwar section when I 1st joined and someone with 1500 posts wrote that siege tanks have a range of 6 in siege mode I think it was. I was fricken afraid to correct him that's how terrified I was of posting.

I agree that people like me could post more and do more to be part of the community, but I don't exactly think its fair to paint people below a certain post count into a corner. I am sorry if I had misinterpreted what you said and you didn't mean to do that but that is just the general feel I got from your post.
