I've allways been a huge blizzardfan, just got more caught up in wc3 and wow... and now I'm looking forward to the next awsome game from blizz.... so why shouldn't I be as qualified for a beta key as the veterans? after all this is a new game... I don't think playing other games make you less qualified for a beta key per se, but being new to this very community (as in teamliquid.net particularly) makes you less qualified for a key than those who've been here while you were playing WoW. No offense ![]()

What makes TL great, IMO, is that you don't need to register or do anything to read the latest SC news or learn about a new strategy. I don't think I need post comments like "OMG IM SO EXCITED. GO JAEDONG" after every MSL countdown. I understand that the vets feel a little entitled to get some reward for their contribution, but I feel that most post just because they want to, not to be rewarded with something. I don't like the way you make it sound like we are stealing from you and the site if we are not actively commenting on stuff. Sorry if it sounded like that to you. But to me even that "OMG IM SO EXCITED. GO JAEDONG" shows that you are participating in the community. The keyword here is not fidelity to the community, it's contribution. You decide to share something with others. Even if it's just emotions and excitement. Sitting in front of your computer, quietly cheering for your favourite player makes you a fan, but not a member of the community. You are of course free to do what you want, you have exactly the same rights here as everyone else, you deserve the same respect aas other people as a person and human being, but don't expect to be suprised to be considered inferior to people that scream "OMG IM SO EXCITED. GO JAEDONG" by other members of the community.

I've read this misconception multiple times during the last days: why do many people think a high post count can only be achieved by posting useless crap? There's plenty of constructive ways to post. Do a live report, help someone in the strategy forum, participate in a non-Starcraft related discussion, tell a joke, pose an interesting question. Not every post can be of the highest quality, but saying more than "lol" isn't hard. I see where you are coming from but 500 keys is an amazing opportunity to expand the community. Handing out keys to people new to the community will make more users register and start contributing. Sure there will be a lot of accounts that just die off but some will stay and increase the volume of the community and hopefully the quality. This is probably going to sound a bit cynical, but you veterans will probably stay even if you don't get a key. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't reward people that have been part of the community for a long time. I'm just saying you shouldn't put a post limit on the keys. Yes, I'm a bit biased, but so are you ![]()

But right now, for some reason, I really can't argue with you on that point. Is it really that hard to post? To voice your opinion? If you don't voice it, it's like you don't have one. If you'd be really interested in a community, you'd become involved in it one way or another, and I really can't think of an easier way to do that, than just simply posting. The number of single digit posters in here is sickening. Is it really that hard to invest some time into a community, and not reach 100 posts or even the 350 for a zealot/marine/zergling icon, that shows even a little bit of commitment and interest in a community? I understand, you might have a life, you might work, you might have a spouse and even maybe children. But what I don't understand is why are you asking for something from a community that you didn't put any time into? This doesn't concern everyone, but I'm sorry to say, a huge majority. Some of the newcomers, will stay despite all the shit we vets are giving them and even after not getting a key. Others will stay, and hopefully engage in the community after getting a key. But the vast majority that get or don't get a key, will probably never visit this site again, until they'll need another favor from it. Getting 100 posts or 350 posts can be a little bit hard around here to be honest. Personally I've been hanging around this website for 2 years. Mostly because I've been watching pro StarCraft since being introduced to it by the GomTV Star Invitational. Even though my post count is low, I feel as though I have some affiliation with this website and some right to come out of the woodwork and have a crack at perhaps getting a beta key. The main reason I see that there are a lot of lurkers/low post count members on Teamliquid is because it is really encouraged by the atmosphere here. I personally think it was a conscious decision by the staff/moderators of this site to bolster the quality of content. Allow me to describe this atmosphere from a lurker/low post count member's perspective. The level of competition for StarCraft is incomparable to that of other RTS games. This isn't Company of Heroes section on Gamereplays.org where you can play 20 games and then parade your balance suggestions all over the forums. The time-frame is different to most other sites. This community is centred around an extremely well established and long standing game. It has a lot of veteran players and it has a lot of people who really know what they're talking about. Teamliquid also has a more adult attitude in regards to putting forward topics for discussion. The mods try their hardest to keep the quality high. That means people who make claims unsupported get shot down in flames, which isn't typical of all places on the internet. The atmosphere around here with a well established community, high quality discussion and knowledgeable and veteran players is very different from most other websites. Naturally people will feel inclined with such a well established and high quality community which focuses on experience, to post less and take on more of a spectator role. I feel the position I am in is not a particularly unique one. I know that there are a lot of people on this website who understand this game a lot better than I do and as such I feel like I would not be adding any quality to discussion if I were to post in most threads. Because of this I don't particularly post a lot and I'm sure this is the case with a lot of other people. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing. In fact I find it quite refreshing in comparison to other communities. The quality is kept high but naturally new players don't get to express themselves as much as on other websites. tl;dr - TL encourages people to lurk and it isn't a bad thing. Naturally there are going to be people with low post counts around here who feel they are some part of the community. In any case the 500 beta keys for teamliquid is great news! Hopefully now I can acquire one.

Joined TL.net Wednesday, 26th of August 2009 Dude, I'm not saying I know what's true and what's not, but if you've been around the site for 2 years and it took you over a year to even create an account, then what case are you making for yourself in the aspect of "contributing to the site"? edit: then again, I give you 20 times the merrier welcome than the dude below you who starts his TL-career with not only a one liner, but an ego-flashing one liner... ![]()
