Consider it from a mafia perspective. Like, it's possible he just didn't read to see if it was self aware or something and made a mistake, but how likely is that? Fake-claiming draws attention to one's self regardless of whether it's like a running gag or not, DOES he make that mistake? DOES he care? As either alignment? I just find it uninteresting as something to read him on right now.
