The best way to get a belief accepted is to fool people into thinking that they have already accepted it.
Let us play mafia.
Introduction:
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread may grow large quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play.
Rules:
Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox.
6. Posting any PM you receive from a host.
7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
10. Sharing accounts with other players. Only you may post on your account.
11. You may not reveal or hint about the identity of your coach. You may not refer to any idea, course of action, etc. as something that was suggested by your coach.
If you feel that any action you are considering may be against the spirit of the game, it is best to contact a host and ensure it is allowed before proceeding.
Posting:
Host Color:
The color blue is reserved for the hosts of the game to make our posts easy to notice. Please do not use it.
Question Color:
The color green is reserved for questions by players for the hosts. Use it to ask the game hosts questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything.
Activity:
You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be modkilled or replaced.
Smurfs:
Smurfs must PM the host because TL doesn't allow multiple accounts otherwise. If the host is unaware of smurfs, you (and/or your smurf) can be banned for having multiple accounts
Spam:
Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here.
Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. "Editing" includes indirect editing like linking an image, then editing the image. Editing your profile or signature are allowed, but if you edit them for any game-related reasons (ie, breadcrumbing, sending messages, etc) this will be considered out-of-thread posting and will be punished.
Inappropriate posts and use of the report post link:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL moderation staff or using the report post link. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.
Ban discussions:
Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.
Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.
Out of thread communication:
It is common for mafia to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Players who have not explicitly been given permission to communicate outside the thread are not allowed to attempt to infiltrate such communication channels. Players who are not mafia are not allowed to communicate about this game outside of the thread.
Voting rules:
1. Voting is done by posting in this thread.
2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote: Zona or ##Vote Zona. Votes must be in bold, and votes not written in the correct fashion will not be counted.
3. No conditional voting.
4. You may vote only for other living players in the thread. You may not vote for yourself.
5. This game uses plurality voting, so whoever has the most votes at the end of the day is lynched. There is no minimum number of votes required to lynch someone.
6. The person who is up for the lynch is whoever has the most votes. Bringing another player up to that number of votes doesn't put him up for the lynch; he has to have the most votes.
7. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain.

A is voting for E (1 vote for E), and B and C are voting for D (2 votes for D).
D then votes for E (now 2 votes for E) and the day ends.
D is lynched, because D was at 2 votes before E was.
C, D, and E are voting for A (3 votes for A), with A and B voting for C first (2 votes for C).
D changes his vote from A to B (now 2 votes for A, 1 vote for B), and the day ends.
A is lynched, because C was at and A were tired for 2 votes, but C didn't exceed A's number of votes and become the lynch target.
Signups:
7 spots in this game are reserved for new players*. The other 6 spots in this game are open to anyone, but new players still take priority and can possibly bump other players from these spots.
*new player - played in 3 or fewer TL mafia games
Signup for the game by posting /in in the thread if you are new, or /in: Open if you are not.
Game-specific rules:
Modkills:
This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please post in the Ban List.
Replacements
This game uses replacements. Players who are inactive may be replaced by other players.
Clues:
There are no clues.
PMs
PMs and out of thread communication are not allowed in this game, unless your role explicitly allows them.
Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 48 hour day/24 hour night cycle. Any votes after the deadline will not count and the game will be put on hold until the night post is up. The deadline for each cycle will be 19:00 GMT (+00:00).

Game setup information:
This is a mafia game for 13 players. 3 players will be randomly selected as mafia.
The town's win condition:
The town wins when all mafia are eliminated.
The mafia's win condition:
The mafia wins if the number of mafia players alive is equal or greater to the number of town players alive.
When a player dies in the game, the player's alignment (that is, which team the player wins with), and role will be revealed. This reveal is guaranteed to be accurate.
This game uses a variable open setup. When the game begins, one of the following setups will be chosen:
A) 1 Town Cop, 1 Town Doctor, 8 Vanilla Townies, 1 Mafia Roleblocker, 2 Mafia Goons
B) 1 Town Cop, 1 Town Watcher, 8 Vanilla Townies, 1 Mafia Roleblocker, 2 Mafia Goons
C) 1 Town Doctor, 1 Town Watcher, 8 Vanilla Townies, 1 Mafia Roleblocker, 2 Mafia Goons
The mafia will be informed as to which setup is chosen, but the town will not!
Role descriptions:
Vanilla Townie
You have no special abilities, but your voice and your vote are just as important as anyone else's. You win with the town.
Town Cop
Every night, you may choose a player to investigate. You will visit the player and receive "Town-aligned" or "Mafia-aligned" as a result. Your results are guaranteed to be accurate. You win with the town.
Town Doctor
Every night, you may choose a player other than yourself to protect. You will visit the player, and if the mafia attempt to kill a player you are protecting on the same night, the kill will fail. Both you and your target are notified if you prevent a kill. You win with the town.
Town Watcher
Every night, you may choose a player other than yourself to watch. You will learn the names of every player that visits your target the same night. You win with the town.
Mafia Roleblocker
Every night, you may choose a player to roleblock, which will prevent them from performing actions and visits that night. The roleblocked player will be notified, even if s/he is vanilla. Every night, the mafia team must choose a player to kill, and a team member to perform the kill. The team member performing the kill will visit the victim that night. You may communicate with other members of your mafia team outside of the game thread at any time. You may roleblock and kill on the same night. You win with the mafia.

As a reminder, everything related to coaching, including who is coaching whom, is off-limits for discussion. Don't tell people whether your coach told you to say something, etc-- this game should procede as though they're not there, except you'll have a vast store of knowledge and help available whenever you need it. I'll publish a list of the coaches and coachees after the game is over. Hopefully this is a learning experience for everyone!

Yeah, this game will start when we have 13 people. It typically takes between a day and a week for a game to fill up. Once the game is full, I'll PM everyone who is signed up and 12-24 hours later, the game starts.

Also, I figure that all that work I did looking through filters extensively and trying to figure out who people were in my last newbie game didn't do me any good. uh I guess I'm really bad at reading sarcasm...
The town thing is a habit I've gotten into after playing irl mafia where I just say "I'm town" at the start of the game no matter what.
Legit though, I would highly encourage everyone to check my meta (which is in my profile) because I think I play very differently as town and scum.

Actually, i refuse to read previous games and meta. People use it too much to declare themselves as town.
To prove to me you are town, you must work for it.

Kenpachi rule is that when someone claims VT, the first person to attack them for it is scum. Pretty sure it's only for VT claims though (which I did not).

It´s not necessarily alignment indicative but I don´t see a reason to mention how bad you are at the beginning of the game. So it´s slightly strange to do so in my eyes.

Not sure about that. I like you the most in the interactions.
I don´t agree with it. It wasn´t alignment indicative at all, so clearing him for that is kinda strange.
I think both sqrt and chrom have been strange in some way but it´s too early to draw any proper conclusion from that.

See the thing I find scummy from Chrom on this is that he said Sqrt was confirmed town from his post,
And then when I show my distaste for his confirming of sqrt, he then changes it and goes "oh, he's not confirmed at all".
I put both of them as reasonings (as in your reasoning-and my reasoning) as why i dont necessarily like Chrome

Here are my thoughts.
Chromatically is saying Sqrt is likely town for asking about the coaches. Though it's not something that I particularly like doing either, I also think Sqrt wouldn't likely be asking about coaches if he were scum. It'd be a good move by Sqrt if he were actually really mafia and was planning on asking that to appear town, but I don't really think that's what happened here. In my interpretation, Sqrt then jokes about his being confirmed town because of his asking about coaches. Chromatically thinks it's a bit less townie of him to joke about being confirmed town, but I can't see a mafia making a joke about it like that.

So with the first post, it didn't seem like sarcasm. You stated specifically that he was confirmed town. Where is the sarcasm in that? Also confirming him as town for asking about coaches shouldnt happen. Mafia could ask that regardless of whether or not they have a scum qt,

Scum entering the thread who need to give an opinion on something would find it easy to jump on something that was already controversial and catching criticism, ie me. Add that to the fact that no one was actually pushing me as scum or giving any reasons why I would actually be scum, just lightly throwing suspicion. It's not a slam dunk or anything, but I think it looks bad. Worst on Slam, not as bad on you because you only gave it when someone specifically asked you.

Well, of course any of them could be mafia. It's not exactly the greatest thing to clear someone on the first day or so when there's so little information to go on. I just mean that, given the information that I've been able to pick out so far, these are my reads. I'm sure they'll probably change as the game goes on.

It's not exactly the greatest thing to clear someone on the first day or so when there's so little information to go on. I just mean that, given the information that I've been able to pick out so far, these are my reads. I'm sure they'll probably change as the game goes on.
It almost feels like sqrt will be a townie at the back of some peoples' mind, so I wanted to align myself for neutrality.

No, I was answering sloosh. Who asked for my "least favorite and most favorite ppl"
Chrom and sqrt were the least.
Chrom quickly took that as "I think he's scummy" and started to defend versus seeing what I said and simply saying "well at first I thought so but I realized that..."
This answers both questions. Because since the answer to the first one is "no", the auxiliary question is irrelevant.
