![]() Edition 1. Day 1 of Catastrophe. In this edition of The JubJub Journal:
![]() Welcome to The JubJub Journal! Welcome to the very first edition of The JubJub Journal, your local source for all the news, drama, and happenings within the town of Catastrophe. We are pleased to be providing up-to-date daily information on the events that transpire over the next couple of days. Our writers are working around the clock to make The JubJub Journal the best source of information for the town. Our columns and articles will contain the latest information as well as exclusive interviews with the inhabitants. As the go-to news source in this town, you can be sure that any secrets and hidden ongoings will be reported, so check your mail frequently to make sure you are in the know! --Chief Editor, The Fool Haters Gonna Hate! There has been an unprecedented amount of hate in the town of Catastrophe in the past 24 hours. Analysts have reported that while the levels of rage are growing on the whole in the world, this town is suffering a noteworthy epidemic. "Hosts are not as stringent as they should be about bad behavior in recent years," said analyst Qatol. "However this is one of the worst cases we've seen in a long while." This information comes as a result of the first ten pages after the game started, which include a plethora of insults, swear words, and people not actually playing the game. Many reported that it is very hard to see where the game started. "I was reading the thread on page 30 and had no idea the game had begun," said justanothertownie. "I thought people were just yelling at each other in pre-game chat. I tried to tell them to calm down but it just kept going." Many people often wonder what prompts a player to make such vulgar comments at another. It is not an uncommon belief that players are innately born with the rage, though scientists have yet to find a rage gene to support this hypothesis. Ragers usually have different reasons for being so bm and there is no single reason for a player raging. "This is the internet and I have the freedom to say whatever I want," IAmRobik said in an interview. "If I want to call someone a fucking idiot, that is my right as an American." Dandel Ion, another well known rager, has a more selfless view about his own behavior. "The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. If I don't tell a person that they are retarded, how can they ever hope to cure their own stupidity?" Ragers are usually not self-aware about their own credibility and detriment to the town winning the game. Many other players are skeptical about trusting their reads and the information they provide. Some players just choose to ignore them completely. "IAmRobik and Dandel Ion? Who are you talking about?" said yamato77. "There's only 28 players in this game and those two aren't listed in the player list..." To Spam a Spammer Everyone's expectations about playing in a crazy game has been met (with the exception of raynpelikoneet who hates his role), but nobody was prepared to brave the amount of spam that such a game caused. With over 60 pages in the thread, the amount of reading to keep up with is phenomenal and often very taxing on the players. This creates a perfect atmosphere for the mafia team to watch the town destroy themselves. "When a player has to wade through so many posts it detracts from their ability to scumhunt," said mafia expert Ver. "Players get discouraged and often jump to conclusions or miss out on key posts. It also becomes very easy for the mafia to join the chaos and blend in." For some players, the spammy atmosphere just makes them not want to play the game. This can be especially true of townies, who get bored reading all the spam or just don't want to deal with it. Many people often interpret this behavior as scummy, when in fact the opposite is true. Other townies, such as Balla24, may resort to doing absurd things because of all the spam. "Honestly, random voting is probably going to work better than having to read this spam-fest," Balla24 said. It is clear that all the spam has affected Balla24's game plan. When asked if he would be playing different if the atmosphere was better his answer was optimistic. "Would I be trying hard if this game wasn't so spammy? Absolutely. But I got money to make, drugs to deal, and bitches to lay. I don't have time to read through the spam," Balla24 replied. As expected, some players just ignore the spam completely while still trying to play the game. These players often resort to just reading filters and only going through the thread if they have to or to find important information. Yet others take an even more extreme approach. "I haven't read any of the game before my first post on page 35," said Palmar. "And why should I? Spam without Palmar is useless spam. These guys should know by now that they need to wait for me before trying to shit up the thread." Still there are those that advocate making only a few posts per day that are of high quality in an effort to drive the town to victory. Many agree that other players should follow from their example, as their methods have proven success in winning games. "I'm only planning to make a couple of posts per game day," Foolishness reported. "Even with just a few posts I can bait out information, catch mafia, and generate good discussion. Not all of my posts may contain who I think is mafia, but you can be sure that when they do it is well thought out and properly analyzed. My vote is a weapon and I'm not just going to toss it around without good reason." Insane Mafia? A game type that is not often played, Insane Mafia features gameplay with the most bizarre roles you can imagine given to every player in the game. This game type is usually featured in games without the word Insane, prompting much confusion among the new players. "I joined Aperture Mafia because I thought I was playing in a standard game with a Portal theme. Boy was I in for a surprise!" reported Paperscraps. Insane Mafia was created for the purpose of giving everyone a role and letting the crazy happen. It was never intended to be taken seriously. "The name 'Insane Mafia' was given because I like to be as literal as possible when I name my games," said the creator of Insane Mafia Artanis[Xp]. "It's designed to be the craziest game out there." However many newer players often do not correctly analyze the best way to play the Insane format. It is not unusual for newer players to spend hours trying to figure out their role and how to utilize it in relation to others. "The problem with this approach is that the possibilities grow exponentially with the player size," says co-host Crossfire99. "There's so much you have to figure out and so many things to confirm with the mods that you are just wasting your time." The well-known players of the community advocate that the best way to spend your time is to do analysis. Organizing the power roles does not work like it does in normal games or in PM games. Foolishness, famous for his Insane game where he caught mafia only by posting in limericks, strongly suggests just ignoring all the role-related things in the thread. "Players need to go back to the basics and just scumhunt in the thread," says Foolishness. "Power roles and night actions will sort themselves out over time." The amount of discussion about roles and what they do can sometimes have a negative effect on the thread. This is because more important posts will get ignored or players will miss out on the real suspicious players. "For example, has anyone actually read syllogism's filter?" Foolishness adds. "If this was a normal game this guy would already be dead." Wanted Ads Storage Space Needed for Excess Items! Looking for players to take some heavy items off my hands. ![]() Edition 2. Day 1 of Catastrophe. In this edition of The JubJub Journal:
![]() Replacements are Scum: The Keirathi Case. With the game timer at less than 24 hours, Catastrophe saw its first victim to the replacement land. Balla24 had to step out of the game due to complications with his shower. "I had already solved the game anyways," he told Greymist in a PM. "Why should I waste my time when I already know the answers?" Balla24 had received quite a bit of flak early on in the game for his proposal of random lynching Paperscraps. His replacement, Blazinghand, now has to answer for his crimes. "I don't know what that guy was thinking. He was probably high off his mind and needed a shower to cleanse himself," Blazinghand said of the situation. But this is not the only reason Blazinghand is shaking in his seat. In the past few months the majority of replacements in games have been on the mafia side, a statistic discovered by Keirathi. Palmar comments that this is because most players suck at the mafia role. "When a player realizes that they are not as good as me at being mafia they decide to replace out so they don't have to suffer the embarrassment after the game." Some players think that the Keirathi statistic is a good enough reason to lynch Blazinghand. "He's definitely a good lynch today because he replaced in," says iamperfection. "Replacements are much more likely to be mafia. It's not like mafia games are independent or anything." The replacement was a surprise to most of the players especially as it occurred so early in the game. Hopeless1der reported to us that he didn't even realize Balla24 was originally in this game. "The OP is already updated with Blazinghand's name. I really had to search hard to find Balla24's earlier posts." Though with this news one might question the decision of the host, Greymist, to replace Balla24 with Blazinghand. Our secret reporter noted that Blazinghand was not originally number 1 on the replacement list and there were at least two people ahead of him. "I actually needed someone with a 'B' name to replace Balla24. I keep my player lists organized in alphabetical order, and I get really antsy if this gets messed up. Blazinghand allowed me to not mess up the order of roles." Kurumi, the number one replacement, could not be reached to comment on the situation. Travel Guide to Austin, Texas Austin, Texas is at the top of the hot-spot list for travelers. Many people have traveled and many more are considering it for their next destination. "It really is a wonderful place to visit," says Yamato77. "Contrary to popular belief, it is quite a green city." Though as with anything in the world (especially on the internet) there are those that remain skeptical, claiming it's too good to be true or that it is over-hyped. "I don't see what the big deal is. He's not reading clearly and commenting about things he shouldn't be. I would nuke the city if I had the ability to," retorts raynpelikoneet. We sought out Foolishness, esteemed world traveler, to see what he thinks about the situation: "Yamato77 is definitely a trustworthy person. We've seen in the past that Austin is a light-hearted, fun city that's not afraid to troll you. The time of year you have to be suspicious of Austin is when he's being super-serious, and that's definitely not right now." Foolishness further commented that Rayn's arguments against the city are hardly arguments worth considering. "You're blaming a guy for apparently not reading properly in a 60 page spam-fest? What a joke! Plus I don't even see where the proof is that Austin could be scum." At the end of the interview we asked Foolishness the places that people should avoid traveling to right now. "You definitely don't want to be visiting France anytime soon. There's something fishy going on there." iamperfection Not So Perfect According to a recent research paper by Foolishness, iamperfection may not be as perfect as his name implies. His close analysis of iamperfection's filter reveals interesting results that are fresh and new to Catastrophe town. The main result of the research is that iamperfection fits the bill perfectly as a mafia blending into the chaos. "When the thread is spammy and town isn't doing anything the mafia just post to skirt by," says mafia hunter Kitaman27. "I'm not even reading the thread and I know it's happening." Foolishness states that the way to find the mafia in this situation is to look at those people who are active but not actually accomplishing anything. Mafia don't fear to post in a chaotic situation but they will never try to steer the town into a better place. "iamperfection is one of the best examples of that this game," reports Foolishness. "His attempt to get people onto Balla24/Blazinghand is the most convenient case in the world. If you're mafia in a game, wouldn't you just love it if some idiot is proposing random lynch? You get to call him an idiot AND look town for doing so!" Despite all that, iamperfection has yet to post a real read on a player or situation. The filter demonstrates that he doesn't have any true scumreads other than the easy picking Blazinghand and only has a few haphazard town reads. Secondly, iamperfection is making demands of the town without doing so himself. "Mafia love to tell the town that they are sucking because they are making a true statement, and as a town it's hard to look past someone who is telling you the truth. However townies will always try to rectify the situation while mafia just sit back and enjoy the show." As evidence against iamperfection, Foolishness quotes a few of his posts to condemn him: On April 03 2014 10:35 iamperfection wrote: Alright bed time for me. People should comment on dandelion Robik and me. Other stuff happened 2 it was less interesting you could comment on that I guess 2. Do work while I sleep. On April 03 2014 10:51 iamperfection wrote: There is shit to talk about. Talk about it. On April 03 2014 21:51 iamperfection wrote: Do you have any real opinions Marv? Doesn't look like it from what I can tell so far. Anything useful to say? "Note how he tells people to talk and generate discussion without doing so himself. He doesn't even have a post that's longer than 2 lines!" Foolishness encourages everyone to read the report and his filter. Of course he's not playing a perfect game, but he fits the identifying bill as mafia. Not contributing yet still active, pushing easy cases, telling the town to generate discussion without doing so himself. "Nobody can ever play a perfect mafia game, unless they are me of course," says mafia expert Ace. "People will always slip up or give something away. The hard part is identifying these things." Foolishness believes that the evidence is good enough to warrant a day 1 lynch and that currently nobody has a better case. ##Vote: iamperfection Irony Contest Closes Early The Catastrophe Irony Contest for the most ironic statement in the game came to a close early with a recent post made by IAmRobik: On April 04 2014 14:23 IAmRobik wrote: I'm "all caught up" -- haven't actually read much since I saw Rayn was modkilled. I'll just ask that this thread doesn't go over 100 pages before I get into work tomorrow morning, so that it can still be manageable. Thanks. Goodnight There was a unanimous decision by the judges that it was impossible for any statement to beat the above one. However the other contests remain open, such as Best Image, Most Hilarious Post, and Best Chezinu Moment. The JubJub Journal™ - Apr 3, 2014.

![]() Edition 3. Day 1 of Catastrophe. BREAKING NEWS! ![]() We interrupt for this breaking news bulletin! For the first time in the entire game so far a great list of mafia suspects was posted! We now go live to the post itself: On April 04 2014 23:54 kitaman27 wrote: How is he my third scummiest dude? These players are higher up on the chopping block for me: iamp Amiko Hope killing syllo Keirathi and maybe Koshi (VE?) Kitaman has shocked the entire player base by posting a list of mafia suspects that actually makes sense and is congruent with the actions of the thread. This is especially surprising since Kitaman had posted earlier in the day that he was a bit too busy to even be playing the game. "I told everyone early on in the game that my time was limited," Kitaman told us in an interview. "Jokes on them! LOL I've actually been carefully reading everything!" The list is so good that Kitaman is looking to apply it for the Best Game Post award. This wouldn't be the first time he's collected an award for dumpstering an entire scum-team on day 1. "It's posts like these that give me hope for the future," says esteemed mafia expert Foolishness. "Personally, I'd replace Keirathi and Koshi with Djodref and tehpoofter, and there's probably no reason to include VE. But otherwise this list probably wraps up most of the game." ![]() Edition 4. Day 1 of Catastrophe. In this edition of The JubJub Journal:
![]() Europeans to Blame for Over-production of Spam The price of Spam has plummeted in recent days due to an over-supply coming from the Europeans. Thanks to the work done by investigative reporter VisceraEyes we now are able to say with certainty where the problem lies. "I started investigating the Spam problem a few days ago," says VisceraEyes. "I was interested in it because I only have 3 pages of filter and the thread is over 100 pages long. When a thread is spammy I'm always the primary cause of it. However this game has seen an abhorrent amount of Spam and I'm not the cause! Something weird must have happened." VisceraEyes spent many days tracking the source of the problem. For him, this involved many sleepless night as he wanted to get directly to the root of the issue. "It wasn't easy at all. I had to click everyone's filter and check how many pages they had. When I play mafia, I'm usually too busy posting to do things like filter-reading and checking past games." As he discovered, it seems that Europeans are mostly to blame for the over-excessive Spam and large number of pages. He points specifically to Palmar, Marvellosity, and HolyFlare as the main contributors while also noting Dandel Ion as a secondary cause. However, VisceraEyes did not stop there. He proceeded to dig deeper to find why these players are making so much Spam. "These players are making a lot of Spam due to the recent technological advances in spam-production. Spam is now cheaper to produce than ever before thanks to the research and findings done by the (in)famous Bill Murray." For those who are unaware, Bill Murray discovered a cheap method of Spam production by just writing one sentence about whatever you want and hitting the post button. "It really was an amazing discovery," VisceraEyes reports. "He changed the face of the mafia game forever." Many players, including Foolishness, are getting a headache because of the excess Spam. "I went to bed having caught up in the thread. When I woke up ~8 hours later there was 25 more pages to read," he said. When asked how he was going to try to rectify the situation he said, "I'm going to shoot a bitch." Foolishness would also like to say that he meant that previous sentence figuratively and not literally. A Quick Update to the iamperfection Research Our reporter managed to catch Foolishness in the bathroom to get a few words for him about the iamperfection case. Many players were skeptical at his case, some even going so far as to use big words like "verbose". "I don't agree with his case," says Oatsmaster. "There's no need to actually read his filter or look at what Foolishness said. Critical thinking is for snubs. Here in Catastrophe we just post nonsense." Though he seemed to be quite busy, Foolishness managed to give us a few words about iamperfection. "Pressuring people? Ha. Have you seen his town games? This is a guy who has caught mafia and convinced an entire town to vote with him. Sure, he's posting now. But are his posts doing anything? Absolutely not." Skepticism seems to arise because iamperfection has been posting in the thread. Many players often mistake this for a sign of towniness, preferring to go after the lurkers instead. "It's really easy to vote on someone who isn't posting. You don't have to do analysis or critically think about their posts, just vote the guy for not posting. The best part about it is that you can do this as either town or mafia!" says Palmar. Marvellosity also commented on the issue: "anyone who cannot match me in filter length is automatically mafia. Don't sign up for a game if you can't post as much as me." Foolishness was able to give a few words when asked about the state of the game. "Normally yes, it's important to analyze the lurkers to punish the scum from doing so. However, the current game only has a small handful of lurkers. Most players already have 2-3 pages in their filter. So filter length does not mean as much in these spammy games. Rather, one has to look at who's trying to accomplish something for the town and who is just posting to skirt by. Is it likely that one of the lurker's is mafia? Probably, but the number of lurkers is so small that it's impossible for a majority of the mafia to be in them. It's not about the fact that he's only posting one-liners...it's that he's not accomplishing anything with them." Reminder On March 28 2014 21:40 Foolishness wrote: Okay I won't hydra then. Just next Friday through Sunday I'll be gone a lot of the time. I will still be able to fulfill posting requirements during this time, so this shouldn't be a problem. ![]() Edition 5. Day 1 of Catastrophe. BREAKING NEWS! ![]() We interrupt for this breaking news bulletin! Our undercover agent HolyFlare managed to catch Paperscraps and Foolishness deep in conversation at a restaurant. HolyFlare was able to get part of the conversation on tape. Here's an exclusive look at what he obtained: Paperscraps: ...item might turn out to be the death of me because of the posting restriction. Foolishness: People will always go after that stuff cause it's easy pickings. ... ... Foolishness: syllogism should definitely not be trusted. Paperscraps: What about marvellosity? Foolishness: Who? Paperscraps: marvellosity? Foolishness: Who's that? Paperscraps: Oh c'mon don't be a hater. Foolishness: What reason do I have to listen to him? What reason does anyone have to listen to him? He claims things like he's more often right than myself or sandroba or syllogism, and that's just simply not true. Marvellosity has single-handedly ruin games for the town in the past, and he's also messed up my correct reads before too. Until he proves himself again I don't see why his reads are any better than any other player in the game. Paperscraps: So you think he's town then? Foolishness: No reason to kill him yet. Though he's hiding something. sandroba and kitaman are much more trustworthy. ... ... Foolishness: Honestly you should stop responding to him...he's got a huge ego and you're just wasting your time. Similar to what happened with gonzaw and myself in Shadow mafia. ... ... ... Paperscraps: ...Mattchew....dickhead... ... ... ... Foolishness: The most damning thing about you is your switcheroo read on tehpoofter. I don't think that's reason enough to lynch you. I don't feel like you're hiding anything from the town. You're not pushing an agenda. Also a lot of questionable people are pushing your lynch. Ironically some of these players are also top of peoples' scum list. Paperscraps: How does that factor in? Foolishness: For example, I may have a list of 6-7 people I think are mafia. Obviously I probably have a couple right as most people would, but the others are all wrong. I always get antsy when 4 of the players in the list are all voting the same person. ... ... Paperscraps: Thank you for your support in a very backend sort of way. Foolishness: Don't get me wrong, a no-lynch is terrible. If I need to vote you to secure a lynch I will. HolyFlare had the following to say when asked to comment upon the information he obtained: "Obviously they are both scumbuddies together. I'm incapable of reading in-between the lines." ![]() Edition 6. Night 1 of Catastrophe. In this edition of The JubJub Journal:
![]() Anticipated Movie "Recount" to Air Tonight Tonight will be the debut broadcast of the movie "Recount" to the mafia world. The movie depicts the drama centered around the day 1 vote in Catastrophe, notably, the votes on the lynch victim Gumshoe. It is directed by [UoN]Sentinel and produced by Artanis[Xp]. "I wanted to bring to light what happened with the day 1 vote," [UoN]Sentinel said. "Many people did not notice what really happened. It was the perfect opportunity to inform the public while generating important information that may prove invaluable in deciding who was responsible for the mislynch on Gumshoe." The information was first discovered by Foolishness, esteemed resident of Catastrophe town. "I was looking over the votes for day 1 and realized something didn't make sense. Upon closer examination I noticed something terribly wrong," Foolishness reports. "Take a look at the final vote count." On April 05 2014 10:03 GreYMisT wrote: Catastrophic vote count: IAmRobik (0): iamperfection (1): Foolishness, Holyflare (0): LSB (0): Paperscraps (8): Blazinghand, Amiko (1): yamato77 (0): Tehpoofter (1): syllogism kitaman27 (0): VisceraEyes (0): VayneAuthority (1): gumshoe (17): Dandel Ion (0): Blazinghand (0): marvellosity (0): Not voting (1): Djodref Currently gumshoe is set to be lynched. With 29 alive it takes 15 to reach majority. "If you count the number of people voting for gumshoe there are only 16 listed. However Gumshoe was lynched with 17 votes," Foolishness explains. "Furthermore, there are only 29 players alive at this time but if you count the total number of votes you arrive at 30." At first this might not seem like such a big deal since even without the extra vote gumshoe still had majority. However there is cause for concern as it is possible the extra vote was tacked on by the mafia to ensure a mislynch. "This might have been a mafia pushing the lynch into majority," says Foolishness. "But it's also possible that one of the players in the game has a passive ability that makes his vote count for two. This is still noteworthy cause typically these double-vote roles are mafia-aligned." We asked Foolishness who he think might be responsible for the discrepancy in votes. "By looking at the voting history we can narrow down the suspects. Take a look at this vote count which was the last one before the deadline," On April 05 2014 08:15 LoneMeow wrote: Catastrophic vote count: IAmRobik (0): iamperfection (1): Foolishness, Holyflare (0): LSB (0): Paperscraps (12): Blazinghand, Amiko (3): yamato77 (0): Tehpoofter (1): syllogism kitaman27 (0): VisceraEyes (0): VayneAuthority (0): gumshoe (6): Dandel Ion (0): Blazinghand (1): marvellosity (0): Not voting (5): austinmcc, VayneAuthority, Djodref, gumshoe, Keirathi Currently no one is set to be lynched. If one of the players has a passive ability it must be one of the non-voters at this time. However of these 5 players only two of them, austinmcc and Keirathi, ended up voting for Gumshoe. One of these two players must be able to double vote. The other option is that someone has an activated ability where they can change their vote into a double vote. If this is true then they probably used it near the end of the day." But this doesn't necessarily mean either of these players is mafia. Foolishness reported that he's sure austin is town and doesn't have a read on Keirathi at the moment. We ended the report by asking Foolishness why he thinks nobody else noticed this. "Apparently counting is hard. I blame the Spam." The JubJub Journal™ - Apr 5, 2014.
