Hydra's are incredibly town favoured and shouldn't be allowed in normal games IMO.

Quite convenient that you two share an avatar.

As I can't, I made mine unique until another broodling flyer comes in... Don't know if that helps people at all but whatevz.

Out of curiosity is it because they are like a free mason?

If so, I'm sure we could make a small balance adjustment. . . We have lots of roles to work with. We could add VT, subtract blues, give scum more power roles, etc. I'm sure it can be made to work. Syl, your take?

Yes. They give two people a confirmed townie to share thoughts and discuss the game with. Which may not seem like a lot but is actually a huge advantage.

Has there been a game where a hydra has given town a clear advantage? I have limited experiences with them myself, but I never saw them as being overpowered.

I'm not even sure if Kirby still wants to follow through on this. He wanted to do this a while back, after Titanic ended. I'll see if he's still available.

I don't want you guys to have to rebalance the setup for us anyway. That's no fun.

/in for now.

Hydras have a net benefit to town, even when you factor in the probability of the hydra being scum.

In your 15 player setup, I would expect around 3-4 scum. The probability of the hydra being scum is around 25%. Conversely, the probability of the hydra being town is 75%.

Even assuming that the hydra gives an equal benefit to either team, the disproportionate amount of probability attributed to rolling town already gives town an unfair advantage. Add to this that many people think a town hydra is a greater benefit to town than a scum hydra is to scum and the scales tip massively in town's favor.

Rebalance really not hard XD- I mean not easy but it gives us all something to talk about, if we need to ask foolishness if he wants to take a look at setup in qt with us, etc. but if Kirby says nay all is solved.

Read the endgame discussion on the hydra mafia II game. Multiple people agreed that hydra's were very town favoured.

It's not really something I'd want to do though, especially because rebalancing based on a hydra would require you do make assumptions about the hydra's skills I believe.

If Firm is going in alone, all is well for now, but if there are any other strong opinions on the issue, I'd love to hear them too since I'm a newbie host.

That newbie game needs another newbie player, so you could consider checking that out, before you go into a normal game.

Thanks. I think I'll hang out here as well though. I've always considered myself a bit of a Kanji Tatsumi and would love the opportunity to finally live it out.

So long as you follow the Standard Rules, I'm fine with you joining this game. Just be warned there's a lot of reading and effort involved.

Hydras are indeed town favoured.

If the hydra rolls town:
1) two heads is better than 1 when trying to figure the game out
2) it's much easier to read a hydra, whether the interaction/posting of the two heads is natural

If the hydra rolls mafia:
1) two heads is infinitely worse than 1 in trying to deceive
2) it's much easier to read a hydra, and spot the dissonance between heads

After Artanis' Hydra 1 (7/2 split) I specifically recommended to Artanis to rebalance it a bit to 8/3 instead, and town still won incredibly easily in Hydra 2.

You definitely don't want to do two games at once. either do the newbie or this game. (probably the newbie)

Oh right, I remember that game :| Also, when you lay out those differences I completely understand the possible imbalance it would cause towards town.

The moment Man devoured the fruit of knowledge, He sealed His fate. Entrusting His future to the cards, Man clings to a dim hope. Yet, the Arcana is the means by which all is revealed. Beyond the beaten path lies the absolute end. It matters not who you are... Death awaits you.

Okay, so that's not the right game, but this Mafia match looks cool. I'll be watching with a keen interest.
The room is ripe with the stench of bitches!
