Flashing red lights flooded the room as the computer kept repeating the ominous words: "NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED" "IMPACT IN 10 MINUTES" General Artanis[xp] had seen much in his career at NORAD but never something on this scale. The Commies had never been stupid enough to actually try and test him. But now it seemed as all the drills during the Cold War were finally being used. Almost by reflex his hands rushed across the buttons and he was rewarded by 2 sentences which he had never heard outside of a drill. "DEFCON 1 HAS BEEN AUTHORIZED" "MINUTEMAN III CLEARED FOR DEPLOYMENT - AWAITING COORDINATES" The general paused. No one even knew how all hell started to break loose. When the first alert went off, Sylencia and s0lstice were cracking jokes. "The Russians are nuking China or North Korea launched a nuke at Tokyo." They smiled. Suddenly, the screen lit up with red neon letters and the room went silent. Emotionless, the computer repeated the ambient warnings. "NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED" "IMPACT IN 5 MINUTES" "NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED" s0lstice wheeled around to the desk next to him, but sitting in front of the screens to try and identify single nukes had become a futile effort as the radars were swarmed by thousands of signals. Duds, Nukes or Errors. Did it even matter? It did not matter, Artanis decided. All he knew did not matter anymore as he was faced with imminent destruction. Turning back to the launch desk, a pair of coordinates came back to him. A pair he had remembered the day he started to work here. 55° 45′ 0″ N, 37° 37′ 0″ E He punched them in. "CONFIRMING LOCATION AT 55° 45′ 0″ N, 37° 37′ 0″ E" His subordinates looked at him, questioning him while they copied their instructions and primed another couple of Nukes for the location. s0lstice finally asked the question the general was expecting. "Sir, are you sure about this location? 55° 45′ 0″ N, 37° 37′ 0″ E is Moscow, Russian Federation...." Artanis[xp] only gave him a nod. "I'll be damned to see that old fox of a commie General Marvellosity and his disgusting second Marshall ShiaoPi survive if we have to go down like this. Major General Sylencia, where is the goddamn launch button already!?" Sylencia ran by with the suitcase and the launching codes in hand. "Right here, Sir" "NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED" "IMPACT IN 2 MINUTES" The small little red button in front of the general was calling to him. As Sylencia finished the procedure, Artanis[xp} hit the button. "MINUTEMAN III LAUNCHING IN 5 SECONDS" The general looked at his subordinates again, one last approving look and said: "It has been a pleasure working with you, let us not falter during the last moments now." "MINUTEMAN III SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED" The 3 nodded in agreement and awaited the end. Artanis[xp], s0lstice and Sylencia died in a blaze of glory fulfilling their duty to their country! Marvellosity and ShiaoPi never saw the nuke coming their way with the entire sky filled by them! It is Day 1!
