Not really, just use reason rather than randomness I suppose?
First time playing this sort of mafia so I'm not really sure what strategies work in which ways

Hello boys! I'm excited to get this game going and to hopefully learn along the way. I have played one game before but ended up being a little too hesitant and gun shy and suffered for it. I sincerely hope this game goes better for me.

Okay, help me out here, is there ANY point to random voting right off the bat?
To me, that seems like a distraction from actually starting the scum hunt.

Morning all! I was wondering the same as Matriarch. In one way it seems like a nice way to get a discussion going, but then it also seems like a convenient way for scum to vote for town whilst hiding behind it being random! Are there other pros and cons?

This isn't a game of Help Your Neighbor, this is Mafia, we want to hang someone.

I agree though, game-theory wise, it's better to have something to do first ( ie Elect a mayor or something ), but since we can't, we want to start the lynchin'. We start with some random/joke votes, and then arbitrarily someone will get all serious and start accusing people base on their joke votes. Now we have something to work with. We had to create some content before we can "scum hunt".
