First Oats claims doc, no one wants to believe him, then CC entered the thread and everyone went full regard and lynched Aqua. I was CERTAIN that scum was behind it so the post I made N2 really reflects how mad I was that we lynched Aqua instead of Oats or even no lynch. I still think it should have been a no lynch looking back. I probably would have switched my vote to that at the time. Lesson learned. Sometimes last minute wagons are comprised solely of insane town members trying to save the scummy looking player who claims doc. Sometimes. | ||

Neither scum now town should look at this game and think 'I played well there are should play similarly next time' what you should do is read the obs and the thread side by side to see what it is that seemed townie and what it is that seemed scummy. If Kick and Helo had gotten their shit together and played aggressive, straight forward scum they would have rolled over this town. If town had stopped derping around long enough to read filters they would have come out of here with a win and would have lynched Kick d2 at the latest. Take this game as a learning experience. Grow from it. Become better players. Town General Advice You guys needed to play the game in a more straight up way, don't mess around with each other for no reason. I think a major problem which occurs with many townies (expierenced and new) is that they forget the importance of proving themselves town to all the other players in the game. It is always easier to play pro-town than to make spot on analysis. An example of this from my own history is ACME mini mafia, proving myself town was invaluable since it removed one of the primary lynch targets. Additionally, t is very important that you all remember that blues are only as valuable as the player with the role. Catching mafia is always preferable to literally any other outcome, if you are a doc you should almost always counter claim the scum claiming doc. The only other way to play this out as the town doc was how Yamato did, attacking the claim directly and passionately without pause. I'm writing this from memory so bare with me: MunkE: I don;t have much to say about your play. You need to be more active to really have an impact on the game you were in. You were painfully townie to the /obs qt but not because of anything concrete and more of how the lynch went down. Here you were responsible for your own demise, it was unfortunate that real life interrupted your mafia playing but that is how it sometimes goes. Oats: I don't really get what you were attempting this game, though you came in with some crazy attacks you clearly didn't know your own goal. If you are going to enact some weird plan you need to have a result in mind, i.e. a more talkative town or actually getting CC lynched. You didn't seem sure of your motivation and that weakened your ability to appear townie throughout the rest of the game. Your save on SDM was excellent (though really, based on d1, the only possibility) and your claim was well timed. Besides those two things you just went a little too far off the deep end. My advice to you is to tone it down and think things through before jumping up and down in the thread and screaming anti-town things. SDM: you did a good job proving yourself townie and trying to figure out how things had come together but you managed to over think things a little too much. Remember if there are only two scum catching one is always worth the 1 for 1 trade, no matter if the townie is blue or green. You also had some mind numbingly crazy posts about how Kickstart's d1 wasn't scummy, whatever lead you to that conclusion early on you need to re think. When I talk to him you may see some things which should have convinced you of his scumminess moments after the game started. Of all the townies in this game you played the best; you need to remember that Ockham's razor is your friend though and that the un-counter-claimed doctor claim is probably doctor. JSL: very much like your old friend Kushm4sta you post a lot and, it seems, often think after you post. You have some great ideas but often manage to spam them out of your own posts. Like many a player before you you need to take a step back and look at your post to decide if it is adding anything to the thread or not. You have a lot of thoughts but some of those should be kept to yourself. what I am trying to get across here is that you need to get the chaff out of your posts and focus on the things that matter; there are flashes of brilliance in you but you do your best to hide them in the spam. Connection cases, however fun, should be left in your notebook until after a flip. CC: Your early game play was rather lacking, you have impressed me these last few newbie games and let me down this one. Until you blew it out of the water at the end. You need to put on your thinking pants a little earlier and not just coast. Although you have an easy meta to read (though we'll see what happens if you ever roll scum again; remember, just be chill) you were on my null list until exonerated by process of elimination. You are a better player than what you showed this game and I think just putting a little more focus on d1 would help with that. Aqua: I dunno what to tell you, you played excellently built a good case on scum and followed that up by not following through on your read. You should always push your reads, there is no need to allow your own uncertainty weigh on you. Play as though you know you are right but be open to figuring out that you are wrong, the more confident you appear the harder it is for mafia to fight against the ideas you push. As for your lynch, I don't really blame you; town was floundering after figuring out that Oats was not lying and had to lynch somebody, you weren't there so the opportunity presented itself. Don't be too harsh on yourself for getting mislynched, it has happened to all of us. (Except Marv) Yamato: I don't know what to say at all. You managed to simultaneously embody two of my favourite townie traits: incredible paranoia and a brash sense of confidence and yet managed to try to lynch townies all game while calling everyone stupid for not thinking like you were. You let your crazy get a hold of you a little too much and should have kept your paranoia to yourself. Always be aware and be wary but you don't always need to fill the thread with the thought you have about how the most townie guy in the game is probably scum (this advice, coming from me is ironic see: ACME, but still good). You should also remember that while presenting as confident is good being open to changing your mind with new evidence is necessary. You have found two important skill for being a great town player, you need to follow those up with two more though: a willingness to admit your faults and the ability to appear townie to others. Your fight for the Oats lynch gave me very strong blue vibes off of you because your play, as anything other than a blue, made no sense. You allowed your paranoia to cloud your better judgement. Scum you guys played like scum and that was your biggest mistake. The best advice anyone will ever give you as to how to play scum: play it like you were a townie. You guys took two of the easiest paths as scum emotional and lurky, if either of you had stepped into a leadership role you would have won this game. What you needed to do was come out with strong reads, strong stances and good cases. Instead you called people retarded, complained about the town atmosphere, lurked and wrang your hands more than lady Macbeth. Your wishy-washy play surrounding Oats was the nail in your coffin and it didn't have to be that way, as scum you had a good chance of winning because the town was playing a game of see-how-far-up-my-ass-my-head-can-go for most of the first two cycles. While that strategy worked with this town it would not work in a town with a good environment which was playing well. Also: list post suck. Kickstart: you took the lead role for scum early but decided not to do anything with it. If any of this town had bothered to read mario mini (which no one should ever read it is longer than most of my text books) they would have had you pinned in about thirty seconds. Lucky for you no one did. You also played it safe and went for the townie making the most mistakes (Oats) unfortunately for you you attacked him as bad town or scum and said he needed to die either way. This is not a town mindset at all and should have triggered alarm bells in all of town. Your list post featured Oats as 'slightly scummy' you had tunneled him all day and he had not done anything to change your read a townie would see him as 'scummy scum scum, the scummiest thing since sliced red' not slightly scummy. You needed to make your reads and stick to them. Scum often want to sit back and allow town to make cases for them, you needed to make your cases stronger and to push them instead of being wishy washy. Your reaction to the Oats claim was a scum claim. When someone claims blue town does not automatically believe that as that person might be scum fake claiming; only scum believes them 100% because they know that player is not scum. After having made that mistake you should have stuck to it though, hard defending Oats would have given you a lot of town cred. Or going right for him and getting him lynched. You and Helo chose the easy way out and it lost you the game. Helo: you were harder to find than Kick was simply because you posted less. I liked your case on Munk-E, that is how one should play scum. Pushing for lis lynches and setting yourself up as a townie trying to find scum. When Oats called you scum and sheeped you you should have gone all out into attack mode, you were too timid throughout the whole game and that moment really hammered that point home to me. If you were a townie you would be shitting your pants about someone calling you scum and sheeping you. Always take the chance, as scum, to attack the townie doing something so dumb that you can't understand it. “Care to elaborate” is much weaker than “what the fuck! You are scum diediedie ##Vote Oats” which is what your reaction should have been. Like Kick you needed to either push an Oats lynch with all your might or fight against it with all your might and, like Kick, you decided on the middle ground. Middle ground is where scum are most comfortable and, therefore, easiest to find. You both needed to strike out on your own more and put yourselves in a leadership role. This town was asking to be lead around by the nose and you had the chance to do so. I'm looking forward to seeing more play from (almost) all of you in XXXII and playing games with you when you graduate your newbies. As always, these are just my thoughts, other, better, players may disagree with me. You should probably listen to them.
