I don't know what you are referring to with your 2nd point.

I don't know when he actually sleeps so idk why that matters. Also, I think it would have been easier for him as scum to just sit idle and let the thread go wild then to make the comments he did. He doesn't seem stubborn with his reads or thoughts, which I find to be pretty telling that he doesn't have much information.
