To clarify, everyone may attempt to give away the Ring once they have it. You will only discover whether or not you possess the necessary willpower to give it away after trying via its success or failure.

I sorta see greymist right now but at this point theres not really enough evidence for me to justify a vote, especially since its been all of 2 hours.

To clarify though I'm really suspicious of him for dropping a third vote on someone that originally had no justification, then he voted without adding any justification.

Oh yea Samwyse also had it at some point right? He had it and then he willingly gave it to Frodo 'cause he didn't want to walk around with it or something and then later he indirectly carried it, carrying Frodo who was carrying it. Woopseedaisy.

Yes, Sam did carry the ring for a few hours when Frodo was stung by Shelob as they crossed into Mordor; then gave it up once he discovered Frodo to be alive after rescuing him. Quite a faithful colleague he was, doing all that. Do note that its effects are focused only on the person who possesses it, no more, no less.

Yeah, I was going to post on that point that it looked like he was blatantly trying to start a bandwagon with his vote right there. Suspicious, but not yet enough to trigger a vote from me for it.

Also I don't like cluttering the space with too much talk about the ring, I think for the sake of those with no knowledge of the lore I should say (btw I've only seen the movies)

Frodo probably can give the ring
Sam almost definitely can
Aragorn possibly can
And
In LOTR the powerful people, even the goodies made it seem particularly bad if they were to get the ring, specifically Galdrial and Gandalf make sure never to touch it, this won't necessarily factor into the game but I think it's info everyone should have, beyond everyone getting the basics (and do add if I missed something obviously important) I think we should stop talking about this.

It's not really important as it's all speculations at the moment but I don't see Tom Bombadil as anything else but a neutral PGO who shoots at anyone who visits him apart from hobbits and Gandalf.

See now I don't know the lore but unless this is like a 110% perfect fit, I'd rather stay away from guessing such specific roles (especially with specific exceptions) just from lore. Even if it is a fit, maybe Curu doesn't like PGOs (paranoid gun owners if like me you had to look it up, xtfftc described the whole role though) so I really don't think we can or should try to assume these things.

Navillus I think the following list is correct in terms of most resistant to the ring's corruption to the least resistant.
Hobbits
Wizards
Elves
Dwarves
Men

I think a townie should never give the ring away unless specific mechanics of the ring make it detrimental to hold on to (corruption possibly). Anyways to get more discussion going what do you guys think about lynching a lurker day 1 in the absence of a better target? Maybe its just me but whenever this happens it always ends badly for the town. Don't seem to get much info from them because they were lurking from the get go anyways. Thoughts on the lynch lurkers policy guys?

I sort of see why people are suspicous but it really boils down to a poor reaction to a really null tell (IE fishing for the ring as if you noted i fished for the wand in PYP2 and flipped town) I want to see how things develop first.

My sons, my residents of Middle Earth,

Today, we all have a mission. We must destroy the evils that walk among us, and we must be united in doing so.

They will use deception. They will use force. And they will not relent. We must be careful, otherwise we may be tricked. But, we cannot be complacent; we must fight. And fight we shall.

Let's get this game started!

As always, some general advice:

1) Town should stay focused. A few talking points should dominate a day cycle but never so many that it's basically everyone posting suspicions on everyone else, leading to "post-by-post analysis" of 5+ people. A disorganized town is a plus for the mafia.

2) Don't rely on power roles. Assume we have none and go from there.

3) Personally I like a bit of civility but I do understand some people like to be aggressive and it has it's uses. But let's keep the atmosphere positive instead of negative. Negative atmosphere will be detrimental to town play and at the end of the day that isn't good.

Point 3 in particular should be on everyone's mind. Palmer really messed town up in the previous game by basically making Day 2 a huge mess with over-aggression and spam. And then basically the only reason mafia was lynched in that game was due to blue power, breaking point 2. Let's NOT bank on blues to win the game this time.

Also, ##vote: Greymist

asking for the ring outright? tsk tsk. My steel and iron comes for you.

I agree with this.

##Vote: Greymist

Well looks like I succeeded in getting discussion going.
Out of the three people who voted for me immediately, only Dr. H and chaises gave a good reason. Daz, any other reason rather than "I agree," or is your vote a sheep vote?

I actually had stated my reasons regarding the ring earlier I just didn't vote for you then.

My brethren, I have only one thing to say to this:

Liar.

sigh. As supersoft mentioned on page 8 of this thread, the "guys give the ring to me" bit was a joke post. No one can possibly believe that a real scum player would step into the spotlight, on the first page of day one, and with no reasoning demand what might be a very powerful ability just be handed over to him. The post you quoted is my actual opinion on the subject of the ring or any other items that might be present in this game.

Wait does anyone think that he was seriously trying to get the ring?? I thought it was quite clear that his original post was a joke, not just the content he makes it look joking, it really is a null tell and doesn't matter if he contradicts it, cause you know, it was a joke...

Just a talking point, what if he's Smeagol/Gollum? His behavior seems normal if that was his role; as he would want the ring, try to fish for it, and throttle anyone who got in his way of looking for it.

Mainly to get a response from a player I've never played with before. Feel free to prove to me why you shouldn't be lynched. Obviously whoever has the ring should not claim. What I said was for the player to claim if they ever passed on the ring, since they were very likely be town.
I'm better than dirt. Well, most kinds of dirt. I mean not that fancy store bought dirt. That stuffs loaded with nutrients. I... I can't compete with that stuff.
