Qatol, as our abusive father who only wants the best for us, what do you think about having the ability to grant/deny mafia forum privileges? I've noticed that you generally want to maintain the banlist without being the "final say" on controversies... if you got an icon, would you be willing to be the final say? My sense is that is exactly what you want to avoid.
There's no doubt in my mind that Qatol is qualified, it's just a question of whether that's what he wants and what TL Mafia actually needs. In fact, even with plexa around the mafia /in list thread often had a sizable queue; ITW will eventually take care of it; mafia xxxviii is almost full and already has a plethora of newer players. On the other hand, it would be damn nice to take care of mafia perm bans and thread privileges in-house...
A couple of things. Before making this I asked Qatol, he said he was fine with it. Secondly, ITW can't actually add people apparently. It's why we need a dedicated moderator.

My position is as follows:
I wouldn't mind being made a mod if the TL staff think it is warranted.
But I'm going to take the position that I think they will probably take:
What would you have me do that I can't (and don't) do already?
I could let people into the Mafia Forum on a more regular basis (if Moderators can even do that - I'm guessing it takes Administrator access to do this and there's no way we're getting our own Admin). I could handle the ~5 bans per year which result in loss of mafia forum viewing rights. I guess I could also take a more prominent role in the Ban List as far as resolving the easy calls (such as QuickStriker's attempt to avoid his ban) goes. I could update the OPs of active games to reflect changes in the Day/Night cycle (though this was more useful/important when we didn't have hosts use a rigid 48/24 cycle). And it would be nice to have an "All" button so I can point people to ban-related material more easily. But is that enough to really justify a moderator? What exactly would you have me do on a regular basis here that I don't/can't already do?
I prefer to have the big ban-related policy decisions decided by the forum as a group. I think the standards reflect what everyone as a whole thinks is acceptable, which is really how I believe this forum should be run. If people don't buy into the rules, they tend to not follow them, which results in chaos. We could just kick people who don't buy into my rules out of the mafia forum, but I'm worried that might erode the player base unacceptably. The easiest way to get people to buy into the rules is for them to have a voice in the creation of those rules, or at least to make the rules transparent enough that people understand (and support!) the logic behind the rules.
As far as RoL's situation goes, it is unfortunate, but I think he handled it in the wrong way. I really think he should have just PMed the list of accounts he wanted given mafia forum access to ITW. He knew that the TL moderators have problems with smurfs, and that seems like it would have been a simpler way of getting everyone access. Given the way he handled it, I don't think the situation would have turned out any differently if I was a moderator unless I happened to be watching the Mod Reports forum at the time and reacted to the situation before ETT.
Finally, remember that the TL staff (the Administrators, Moderators, and Banlings) by and large do not know me. I have had conversations with some of the staff members who actively played mafia here (semioldguy, Bockit, IntoTheWow, Plexa, mikeymoo) but that's about it. There are a few other staff members (FakeSteve, TheMango, Harem, Kennigit, Rage, Empyrean, SonuvBob) who have probably heard of me but may or may not remember who I am. Beyond that, they simply have never encountered me because I probably have ~200 posts outside of the mafia forum (not counting the mafia games which were moved). I think it is extremely unlikely that they would give staff powers to someone they have never heard of and know nothing about, regardless of how people on this forum feel.

That makes this interesting. I am surprised they can't customize who has what powers. I didn't think adding people to forums would be that big of a deal.

Your a good candidate to us however your gonna have a hard time convincing the higher ups to give someone who is relatively unknown outside of the mafia section much authority.
i have actually talked to hot_bid and Mani and other mods about this extensively and im telling you guys its not gonna happen. not now at any rate.

Which means the focus should probably be on getting someone like ITW promoted to Admin or getting another Admin more interested in this forum if you want people added more often.

Alright guys, new plan. We pair off into groups of 3 and each focus on different admins, are goal is to convince them that mafia is a wonderful game and they should play it.
I'll take L and Ace. We will berate an admin until we are all either perm banned or have an active admin in our midst.

BC promised me Mani and FakeSteve in the same game.... I did my part and got FakeSteve to play (Mafia VII), but BC didn't carry his end of the bargain at all!

I'm pretty sure it's coded into TL this way. However, there are exceptions for certain powers--I can write Power Rank, and that's done through the Admin Panel. But I'm not an admin/mod, obviously.
Also I honestly don't think a moderator is needed for in-section stuff. The only thing they'd be applicable towards is banning people / checking for smurfs, and bans are done based on the diplomatic system right now and I tend to hand off smurfs for checks.

yeah i really dont think an admin is extremely important to us right now. we are still a relatively small and manageable amount of people. Also its worth adding that there are a large number of people here that have access to admin IRC and admin sections of the forum so we are not in any danger of being unheard if a problem arises. basically having an admin here would be convenient for us and inconvenient for the admins. you do the math.
