Brave Prefects of Chinese districts gather together to help decide the decisions of their armies in rooting out suspected rebels and traitors. Rules: READ CAREFULLY, THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM NORMAL MAFIA There are many different factions in this game. There are: The Forces of Wei, led by Cao Cao. The Forces of Wu, led by Sun Quan. The Forces of Shu, led by Liu Bei. Initially each faction consists of just one person. Every night, each faction may recruit another player to their team. Some players are unrecruitable, however, including enemy faction leaders. If the faction leader is slain, the entire faction collapses and dies with him. However, you can recruit enemy players as long as they are not the faction leader. If a player is recruited by multiple faction leaders at the same time, they all cancel out. There is also a 4th Party in the form of the Yellow Turbans. They may recruit anybody but faction leaders and Yellow Turbans cannot be recruited. However, if the Yellow Turbans try to recruit a faction leader, they all die. All other players start as generic Prefects with no particular alliance affiliation. Victory is attained when one faction outnumbers all the other factions. Lynching is also slightly different in this regard. Rather than people voting on someone to be lynched, people vote to give one player control of their “armies.” The player with the most armies is allowed to choose somebody to lynch. If a faction leader/Yellow Turban leader is attacked, in order for the attack to be successful, the amount of armies given must outnumber the amount of people in that faction. Otherwise the attack fails and no lynch is made. There are also other roles in the game among the Prefects, such as alignment checkers, role detectors, assassins, and more. But you can figure those out for yourselves. Posting Etiquette: Flaming and trolling are highly encouraged. However, if players report to me that they are being personally harassed, then I will issue a warning to that person and then modkill them upon any infringement. Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in a separate thread, to be created once the game starts. Please keep votes there, and only votes. The third post of this thread will contain the vote count. 2. Please vote in the following format, to make it easier for everyone to read: ##Vote Qatol. While the bolding in itself is not necessarily needed, it makes it easier on everybody's eyes. Please bold. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update votes whenever I get the chance. 3. You cannot autochange your vote to the losing or winning bandwagon. 4. You may vote for yourself if you're crazy. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. In the event of a tie the person with the most votes first wins (or loses ) over the other person. 6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. 7. Majority voting is not in effect. Inactivity If you sign up for this game you better be posting and voting at least once every day and night cycle. If you don’t I will annihilate your prefecture with some kind of natural disaster. And then ban you permanently from any of my games. Clues: No clues. Time Cycle: This game will follow a strict 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not be there, any votes or actions after the end-of-the-cycle mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until I get the next post up. Credits: Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, Caller, and all those other guys for taking the time to run mafia games for us. Despite, this is indeed first time Trez has joined to play mafia. If he is eager like me he should have at least posted once in this thread by now- so why is he lurking? On May 19 2010 04:47 BrownBear wrote: The way I see it, every night, 3 people are recruited to the 3 main factions, and one is recruited to the Yellow Turbans. Naturally, there will be some overlap, occasionally two factions will try to recruit the same person and bounce, that kind of thing, but for the most part this will hold true. There are 24 people in the game, meaning that the pool of recruitable people is 20. The YT leader has a 3 in 20 chance of screwing up and getting his entire faction killed if he picks completely randomly, which he will not do, so it's fairly safe to say that he is not going to recruit a faction leader unless he gets very unlucky or reads someone completely wrong. Thus, the pool of potential recruits for each of the 3 main factions is going to decrease by 1 person a night. Now, humor me for a second, and lets run through a sample situation. For this, let's assume (even though this won't be true) that each faction leader picks a different person each night, and no two people pick the same person in one night, so 4 people are getting recruited per night. Let's also assume that each faction leader is smart and can figure out who their rivals are, so no faction leaders are picked to recruit. The first night, everyone is able to pick, no trouble, so there's one person dead from the "lynch" during the day, there are 15 unaligned, and 2 people in every faction (counting the faction leaders). The second day, let's say another unaligned person is lynched, as this is the most likely occurence. Then, another round of recruitment happens as normal, so there are 2 dead players, 11 unaligned, and 3 per faction. The third day, lets say a green guy gets lynched, as it's now more likely that someone in a faction is going to be lynched than an unaligned player. Then, at night, let's say Red tries to recruit a Yellow, so fails (I assume he gets a message saying "You cant recruit that player" or something similar), Blue recruits an unaligned, Green recruits a Blue, and Yellow recruits an unaligned. So now we have 9 unaligned players, 3 Red players, 3 Blue players, 3 Green players, and 4 yellow players. The fourth day, just for kicks, an unaligned player gets killed. At night, Yellow recruits a Blue, Red recruits a Blue, Blue recruits an Unaligned, and Green recruits a Red. So now we have 7 unaligned, 3 Reds, 2 Blues, 4 Greens, and 5 Yellows. See where I'm going with this? Obviously, I ignored some things such as nightkills and assumed some things that probably won't happen with this game, but my point is: The Yellow Turbans are the most likely to get very strong very quickly, unless we harass them early. In the example above, the Yellow Turbans now have the largest voting bloc in the game, so assuming the YT leader has been reading the thread, he can now get people to start bandwagons, and begin targeting people who he thinks are faction leaders, as he will have enough armies to overcome their natural defense. Because unaligned players will probably just be bandwagoning with the biggest voting bloc, this can become a major issue very quickly. Of course, the YT leader could, at any point, accidentally try to recruit a faction leader and screw himself over, but I really don't think this is likely to happen. The way I see it, I have a very small chance of becoming a Yellow Turban for a while, as they only get 1 person per night, and I have a much larger chance of becoming part of one of the other factions, since they get up to 3 per night. Since I'll obviously want whatever faction I'm part of to win, I want the Yellow Turbans dead, even though I'm currently not part of any faction. Thus, I'm going to say, I will switch my vote off of Radfield if anyone explicitly says they will be gunning for Yellow Turbans with the daykill if they get it. There's my argument. This. I'm impressed that someone actually went through the calculations. It is in benefit of everyone to get YT except the YT themselves.

I see a four cult game, with us neutrals as Townies. Let me stress that. OUR PRIORITY AS NEUTRALS IS TO HUNT DOWN THE FOUR FACTION LEADERS, AND KILL THEM ALL. THEN IT WILL BE "TOWN" VICTORY, SINCE NEUTRALS (TOWN) IS THE ONLY FACTION REMAINING. This plan is beneficial for all of us, this is the plan that makes sense, and this is EXACTLY what we should be doing. Neutrals, we are no longer neutrals. At least there is (false?)sense of loyalty there, as that would be the one and only faction you will be trying to help to win. Kinda curious though, based on our current scenario. If a leader recruits a DT or Assassin, he/she doesn't know what he/she recruited. The DT/Assassin also doesn't know he/she has been recruited. Now lets say the DT uses their abilities on player X. Player X comes out as Zhao Yun. Ok great, you've found Zhao Yun, but what does that means to you? What should you do? Tell your leader? You don't even know who that person is. Tell the general public? For what? He might even be on your faction already. Same thing can be applied to the assassin. What is the purpose of using your ability? Unless you just want to randomly kill people, there really isn't any "purpose" in general. This is one of the reasons why I am pushing for neutral victory, which Caller has confirmed is possible. I am not completely against the faction fight which this game is likely to become, but why should I give loyalty to someone who do not even trust me enough to entrust some information?

It's like some players wants to pick on the YT right now just because. If you've read any of my previous post, you should know what I'm talking about. Okay, if you insist, let me put it in neutral perspective then. First since there are three recruiters vs one YT recruiter, neutral's chance of becoming YT are much lower than possibility of becoming other faction. If YT manages to grow unabated, it effectively means that everyone not belonging to YT is literally screwed. This demands two strategy: 1) eliminate YT which is likely to become your enemy, or 2) beg for YT to recruit you. This is up to personal choice, but I don't know, I find first idea rather better than second idea. Second YT recruiter is different from normal recruiter in one thing; they can get killed from choosing faction leader, while other three faction does not have to worry about such things. Third Something happened, and YT leader is out. With him revealed chance of his victory decreases dramatically- wow, playing as neutral, it's time to change alliance! Oh wait, you are stuck. Too bad. Even when you are aiming for faction fight, this demonstrates YT is horrible for your individual survival. And if we are going to play as Town, well, getting rid of strongest cult is obv.

Anyways, who at this point is most likely to be a Yellow Turban? I think for starters we should look at the people who are voting for me. Why me? For starters because a bandwagon started up on me, and second because I indicated I would simply vote off whomever was being inactive. No threat at all to a Yellow Turban, and a great place to hide. That means nothing. I specifically pointed out this four people to see what would happen; I believe faction leaders will be more interested in keeping himself alive rather than uninterested Townie. This is why I removed all those who voted in wrong format from my current suspicion list- faction leaders, while lurking, are more likely to pay attention to development of the game. Hell, if you are faction leader, and you are being targeted, would you pop up or just lurk? Also "waiting for something to happen" could be convenient excuse; he can keep actively lurking for quite a while, saying "lol I'm not recruited yet" when someone points this out.

This is why I propose an alternative plan; Tracker contacted me via PM and stated Radfield was visited by Xelin. He is kind of lurkish and kind of off everyone's radar, but I believe we have better chance of hitting faction leader by targetting Xelin instead of either Tricode or L. This is my plan: we pick one Townie other than me, L, or Tricode, and tell him to NK Xelin. At the upcoming night we can clarify this Tricode-L situation by having Abenson target Tricode- this will definiely prove he is YT. If Tricode does not die, then I'll accept he is genuine in his claim and I fucked up somewhere (lol Caller), and just lynch him day 3.

What does the vig and medic have to do with anything about L's role? Let's say a vig did attack L and a medic did protected him. How does that not make L a faction leader especially if I'm the dt! 3. Who is this Lu Xun and how do you just go believing him over anyone else in the game? How do you know someone is not lying? For instance someone that L recruited last night? Look evidence shows that L is a liar and a Faction Leader. You gain more information by killing him then me. You kill me you just lose a DT and then now you have to kill L who has more recruits to back him up. You kill L and you either prove my innocence or I die like a fucking loser. This won't happen cause L is a faction leader. So answer my questions please before you continue with who is this medic person and who is this VG? These two people have no possible way of knowing or checking L's role. 1. Unless Caller is fucking around with phrase "You will not be notified if someone is hit or checked, nor will your target", I can't see how both of us can be telling the truth. You claim to have DT checked L, but my protection nullifies all night actions. Thus I know you are lying. 2. My protection overrides all night actions- this makes sense favour-wise because Lu Xun was great tactician. It wouldn't make sense for me to only have NK block ability. 3. ~Opz~ got my roleclaim day 1. Thus I cannot be making this up due to recruitment. If you are genuine in your claim, obviously you would survive getting checked by Abenson then we have firm reason to lynch L. So what is the problem?

Secondly, the vig hit is beneficial because it ensures that vig shot is used in town's benefit instead of having it kill some random neutral. Moreover having both Abenson and BrownBear acting on the night eliminates the possibility of doubt on the ensuing death, since there is no way in hell L could recruit both at the same time to influence their answer (I will in fact be protecting either of these two, so if any recruiters try feel free to join the mindfuck lol). Moreover I asked watcher to watch L, so if anyone drops in to influence the results, we are going to be on top of it. And I love how you keep trying to draw town's attention from the main matter at hand; YT's strength will grow rapidly with increasing days, and would do anything in its power to soak up the lynches. Your lie has been counted perfectly by my roleclaim (which came before yours) and now your argument boils down to how "L will weasle his way out of lynch tomorrow" while any logical player would realize if that you TRULY were genuine in your claim my plan ensures there are no escape route L can take.

Caller Screws Up Again! (really) Watcher just contacted me. He said that Caller just messaged him, telling him he screwed up and forgot to tell him until now that DarthThienan also visited Radfield along with Xelin. Exactly 25 minutes ago DarthThienAn actually PM'd me asking "who visited radfield?" so I think his statement is legit. Looks like L wasn't the only one who was popular last night >.>

But Tricode is likely to be YT member, not YT recruiter- moreover Abenson is going to take care of him in the first place. I brought this up exactly because I didn't want to waste a lynch. And though putting YT in status quo does sound better, we should take a risk and hit suspects such as Xelin (unless no roleblocker counter claims?) or DarthThienAn.

Lu Xun was sitting on his table, looking out of his mansion's window. The sky was painted in magnificant red as the sunset was approaching- he did not need to be expert of horoscopy to realize that it signified the soon-to-follow battle, prelude to bloodbath that will determine the fate of the China. Will the revolutionary forces of the neutrals prevail, or shall the warlords end up triumphing? Being an tremendous intellectual, when power vaccum was created by ascension of Yellow Turbans, he realized that this could be an opportunity to break up the terrible cycle the country was stuck in. The Emperor system was outdated, he knew. It might have been quite effective means of governance, but it also ensured that long period of chaos and bloodbath would follow whenever the central government became distabilized. There was Qin Dynasty, which lasted only fifteen years until it collapsed leading to long period of disunion. That period also boasted all manner of warriors and deceptive politics; romance of two heroes- epic battle between Xiang Yu and Liu Bang. To Lu Xun he was seeing samething about to occur. Han Dynasty was discredited beyond belief as it suffered under corrupted officials. It will collapse. And many prominent leaders will rise up to seize the empty position of Emperor, unwilling to say in the long run his dynasty too also will meet the same fate. As the Han Dynasty sent up posters calling up for reinforcements, Lu Xun also immediately launched counter campaign, spreading words between intellectuals. Many observed his movement skeptically, some thought it could not be done. But Radfield had seized the reign of the movement, and leading the combination of donated armies from those who believed in the revolution, crushed the Cao Cao sent by the government to quell the flames. It was an good beginning; Lu Xun immediately commanded the warriors to collect intelligence on their enemies, and bring out any significant information open. He had known not that his very plan will be his own downfall. -------------------- L, Sun Quan laughed as he read the status report on the so-called neutral revolution. The rebellion, which rose up simulatenously with Yellow Turbans exploiting the crack formed by them, was making itself clear to everyone that it had been underestimated. Being an warlord, he knew the movement could grow in power exponentially if Cao Cao's defeat encouraged many warriors to believe in plan's success. And it angered the intellectual side of him. The bastard knew if he was recruited, his own plan would mean his demise- couldn't he see such possibility? The soldier he called up arrived. Not have been given a reason, he was clearly nervous as he spoke up. "You called me, master?" "Yes. I heard you know the residence of Lu Xun's family?" -------------------- Lu Xun was returning after having visited johnnyspazz, having given him advice on how to increase security of his residence. He could have chosen to watch over the prominent individuals who seized the reign, such as Radfield or BrownBear, but he thought detectives and vigilantes is likely to poke around there, hoping to discover whether there were truly genuine in his cause or planning to betray them secretly. It was deep night. He would need to rest up for upcoming days. Entering his residence he noted that there were message lying on the front, and he was glad to discover it was news from someone in neutral army. Considering the mechanics of this game, I don't think I'm putting myself in too much danger by writing this and you seem like one of the few people who I'm semi-confident in sharing this with since you appeared obviously neutral friendly (too obvious maybe?...well, don't want to bother figuring all that out). Anyways, I have a watcher role and decided to watch radfield and found out that he was visited by Xelin. Don't know if Xelin is another neutral role like me (possibly another watcher?) or if he's a faction leader and chose to damn the wifom and recruit radfield (in which case it worked since he was the only visitor). I was wondering what your thought on this situation might be? I thought it wouldn't hurt to post this in the thread since this doesn't seem like something I'd be killed over, but I wanted another perspective just in case. If I end up not posting this in the thread, I'll probably still share this with someone else on the off-chance that you're not what I thought, and I find myself dead by tomorrow (hey, you can't be too careful in this game right? for all I know you got recruited too) Pondering this piece of news, he neared his room and froze. The light was on and he could see the silhouette of someone sitting in the room through the paper door. Someone inside the room also seem to have noticed his approach, as the dark humanoid shape stood up and slowly started walking toward the door, growing large... large.... and- Sun Quan revealed himself with a smirk. "There, you got something to lose by fishing. You're about to die a horrendous death. Sup, I'm your leader sun quan. I kinda hate sun quan. I figured it would be hilarious if you lost due to following your own plan, though, because it demonstrates exactly why you wouldn't want to have said plan. Anyways, if i get lynched or night hit again, i'm dead, and tricode wants to kill me because he actually IS a dt. Trezguet or whatever used a night hit on me and says he wants to co-operate with me, so maybe that'll work out. This is going to be a fun day if little else." "...What?" "I got your family, so you don't have say in this by the way." Lu Xun crumpled down on the floor. He thought nobody would dare to recruit him and even reveal himself publicly, considering that his strong anti-warlords position no one would dare choose to associate him in their forces. It was gambit, he understood, but he also did not anticipate such thing to occur so early. Just as the movement was taking off, he would need to decide between his honour and self-preservation. Self-preservation won out. "I have a plan." "Hmm?" "I am acquitance with Lu Bu, and he is aware of my ability. I will claim exactly this and say I protected you instead of johnnyspazz. Fortunately I did not meet with him directly and only advised his servants, so he cannot come out to contradict. Since this is day 1 claim vs day 2 claim, my claim is more likely to deserve credit- especially because it is true. Moreover I just received contact from watcher stating that he saw Xelin visit Radfield. I could propose third-party player to lead the army against that player." "That's a pretty good plan.” However, Lu Xun was already planning out an escape path. As long as Sun Quan doesn’t get attacked today by neutral army confederation, there is way for me to live. I will encourage town to find faction leader as soon as possible- and with everyone coming clean it will be much easier for me to figure out who the other two faction leaders are. Then I can secretly contact that leader and tell him to recruit me; this is desperation gambit, but my complete nullification ability is indeed pretty useful and he might find himself satisfied with getting me tonight since all other stronger abilities are likely to be covered by watchers and so. And you, my dear sir, I will ensure I personally arrange vigilante to take you down. -------------------- So it goes. The plan was successful, and Lu Xun had minor suspicion that BrownBear was following his own agenda - maybe there was some interaction going between them BrownBear and L he did not know about? - and will choose to kill someone other than L when the moment came. There was also several conflicting roleclaims, so what he just needed to do was to decide who the faction leaders are. But he was slowly beginning to doubt the benefit of following through his claim- even if I succeed, will other faction leaders manage to overpower the neutral army with all the investigation that is currently being raised? It was easy to distinguish leaders from neutrals; they had two night lives, and also lurking somewhere were watcher, trackers, and DT. Also what will history record me as? A selfish fool who did everything in his power to preserve his life, stomping on the very ideal he helped create. Had not he been full of ideal just yesterday, willing to break the history where the greedy individuals fought for rule only to fail? Breaking his train of thought Lu Xun returns his gaze to the falling sunset. The sky is quite beautiful, and exceptional today, Lu Xun thought. Long time passes as he simply gaze out the red sky in state of nothingness. Then, he grabs a piece of paper and starts scribbling. The sky and getting dark; the time is short. ================== Whatever, I am going out with the bang. Screw you L. And shakes fist at Caller for not letting me protect myself (though I can see how powerful I can get if I was able to do so). From now on I will return back to neutral camp for remaining hours, though I personally don’t know what I can do to help anymore. I also apologize to everyone for intentionally acting to damage the town.

No, L used up one of his night life. He only needs one hit to die- he bullshitted about medic, of course. I don't know if there is going actually any since I am buffed medic of sorts. L claims it was Trezguet who PM'd him about the hit. This is why L think either one of Trezguet or you must be YT, because if both of you had NK he would be dead.

I wonder how overpowered I could have been if the lore in the PM was true -_- (being privy to information about all actions performed in the night.) Hell, allow me to protect myself and I would have been nearly indestructible unless by dayvig/daykill. As the very powerful role, I am very proud to have also brought into fruition the very overpowered neutral faction rofl. Honestly, it was impossible for Caller to expect loyalty from us with these two factors in the game: 1) Almost unfair power in the hand of recruiters that discouraged most neutral players from idea of being recruited/working for a faction. 2) The fact that you can change alliances like you could change breakfast; this system encourages individual play, and hell, if you consider what is in best interest of you as individual it was easy to realize you should prefer to stay as neutral until the other factions began to over-number neutrals. Why put your fate in the hand of the leader while you could take initiative yourself? Personally if there were no neutrals at beginning of the game, with all players distributed to their respective factions, it could have gone the way Caller had anticipated. Statement number two nullifies why argument "mafia should work for mafia" is invalid. The faction in the end was mean to your victory, not source of your victory. To be more specific it was like all of us were Survivors: priority goal, stay alive, secondary goal, make sure you defect to dominant faction and aid your faction only should this not be possible. Absolutely no basis for 'loyalty' since you alignment could change any time (like me lol). It's like you work your ass off for faction A putting it into dominant power, only to be recruited by once-powerful faction B. Still, I did almost everything in my power to keep L (thus me) alive for another day before surrendering, so I wonder how it would have went if I really had roleblocked L. I would still have ditched him for another faction as soon as I could just because he is such an big obvious target - it's like he magnetically attracts investigations and attacks, statistically proved by night 1 To be honest faction leaders needed to act REALLY fast at day 2 to have a chance against neutral rebellion. That is have one of its recruited members publicly claim (preferably me in that case), and have all other faction members PM me so Yellow Turbans, Liu Bei, and soon-to-be-dead L could set up temporary alliance. And even then it would have been stretch. I am still surprised at how terrible some leaders turned out to be when fake-role-claiming.

Yellow Turban, because its members could not be recruited, was closest to the actual cult and could have been very powerful had not Trezquet23 drew so much suspicion to himself. If you knew you were going to get checked I would definitely have sent him PM in advance that I was recruiting him. 'Appease' is key word here- when idea of neutral victory got dominant the power balance between recruiter and neutrals got reversed. There seem to be plenty of opinions who said this was not the game was meant to be played so if you were nice about it, I think people would have been acceptable. Hell, L even said "lol your plan sucks b/c this" and I still tried my hardest to save him before giving up for moral victory. I am especially curious after knowing Fishball's ability why he gave up- Fishball was seen as pro-town by day 2~3, so if he worked to keep people away from suspecting his true ability, BC could potentially have lived just enough to make it. My 1) Have the recruited members contact me or L. Set up an alliance whose conduit will be recruited members so that faction leaders identity can necessarily be kept secret. I had idea about using anonymous quickboard. 2) Role-claim wisely. I did it several times as Mafia and it isn't that hard -_- Almost all leaders got caught because of that. Fishball also needed to fake-role/nameclaim so BC's strength became that much stronger. 3) BC publicly claims himself as faction leader, or deliberately give off an "scumslip". Use all three faction members to spread ideas that BC must be lynched. BC survives. 3 people recruited night 2, L is protected (by me) and BC is immune.
