That is basically what is going on. At the moment there are some groups/a single rider in front of the pack, but the time up to the people in front is not significant enough yet to make it impossible or even hard for the pack to catch up. Oh and climbs are the bane (or bain, LOL) of these three favourites. They are not as fast as the others uphill. Therefore the riders in front can increase their lead a bit on climbs.

That is the reason for people staying in clumps. Next thing is: If you get more than 10-20 meters ahead of someone, the person behind will have no advantage in sittiln behind you and thus you are at an equal footing. Now the riders know exactly who are the fastest riders in groups and this year it is Cavendish (Great Britain), Sagan (Slovakia?) and Greipel (Germany). Everyone else have to gain a lead before the last ~1 km or it will be almost impossible to win against these three. Because of the huge advantage these riders have near the finish, the rest of the team will use all their powers to keep all people in a clump untill near the finish and hope their sprinter can win. Don't forget Goss (Australia)! And Sagan is Slovenian. I think a real spring classic rider is going to end up with the win. Someone like Chavanel or Gilbert. I have little hope for my fellow countrymen. Boom is realistically the only one that could win.

Apparently, it was a false start, but I didn't see anything odd. A pity, but at least Ryan Napoleon (I believe, can't quite remember) jumped up another spot.

They want to catch up as close to the finish line as possible, and will intentionally slow down if they feel they're getting too close. All britain wants is for everyone to arrive at the last km as 1 giant pack and then have cavendish clean up in the mass sprint.

Korea's only chance at medaling in swimming. He still has a chance at a medal in the 200m free but the 400 was by far his best event. New 400m favorite is probably China's Sun Yang now. To be fair, I think Sun Yang was the favorite this year. He has the best time in the year by 2 secs. Still, it's always sad when an athlete is dq'd for something like that ![]()

That seems like a surprise given that Japan took 1 and 2 in the 2011 world championships It's no surprise when you know that the Romanian took gold in 2008.
