Am I the only one that thinks CTV's coverage of these Olympics took a nosedive from the 2010 games? According to American media the USA came top in Beijing. the bigger tragedy is we almost reached the point where Russia was going to pass China in the standings since we traditionally do it by total medal count. All week NBC's medal count has listed Russia ahead of England even though they were behind as much as 25-12 in the gold medal count, but Russia won so many bronze and silver medals. They finished only 5 total medals behind China even though they are 14 golds down. Had htey theoretically earned 6 more silver/bronze medals, NBC would have ranked Russia ahead of China

Had htey theoretically earned 6 more silver/bronze medals, NBC would have ranked Russia ahead of China I fully support the SpaceDominator way of doing things with a system where gold is 3 points, silver is 2 points and bronze is 1 point. Realistically it is nonsense no matter what, but gold first is clearly bad in terms of representing the best overall, total medals is a lot better. Combinations win hands down... Next thing would be to start differentiating gold medals by values, since shooting shotgun and winning in basketball has different difficulties, but then you are getting all googled.

I would say total medals is just as bad as gold exclusive tables. Weighted would clearly be the better system, no idea why it isn't used.

It shows depth of athletes from each country more accurately.
