Your media can't be happy so far.
Magnussen better shave and win that 100m free tomorrow
Yeh Magnussen in particular has copped a lot, and seebohm too for her masses of tears, even a day after she was still in tears :p.
I'm surprised Britain haven't won one yet, I expected you'd challenge Russia for third this time, but I guess you will rocket up once the cycling, rowing finals etc come around.

China is stronger at some of the earlier events imo so it's no surprise they are leading in golds atm. The USA will probably try to make up the ground in track and field where they usually do very well and China isn't really known as that strong competitor compared to their other events
You'll be surprised. They'll still find ways to rake in the golds. There's still plenty of diving, gymnastics, shooting, weightlifting, wrestling etc for them to win yet

Too bad that Cancellara fell in the road race, will make Wiggins' chances in the time trial a lot better. Tony Martin isn't in much of a shape either.
But yeah, UK should rake in some golds with track and time trial in cycling and rowing.
Oh and let's not forget Andy Murray in tennis. Even though the competition is extremely high, I have a feeling that that guy is going to get far now.

Doping can only go so far...
Not really. They have awesome athletes who can be trained easily to mold them into champions. But creating a complete team out of noting in collective sports is a whole another kind of work. It requires more time than money, and China is still new to high level sports.

Bolt is the king of the 100m as it stands.
9.58 in 2009
His performance in Beijing is phenomenal too.
Btw if you need a motivational song for your workout:
Oh and this is for if you want to see which athlete is closest to you in height/weight.
I was closest to a Korean 50km walker. Sigh. Then clicked the low left corner to find out that there's a Japanese female gymnast who weighs 30kg at 136cm. Wtf.

At the moment, Yohan Blake is considered just as much a favorite, defending 2011 World Champion in 100m, and beat out Bolt in both 100m and 200m at Jamaican Olympic Trials. Who knows if Bolt can get back to his 2008 self, seems unlikely. He's still obviously a favorite to medal at least, just don't know if it's gold or silver now. XD
Regardless, I'm hoping Tyson Gay or even Gatlin to surprise in the 100m, since the Jamaicans have virtually no competition in the 200m.

Well, they're pretty good at dota. It's a little surprising a less individualistic culture wouldn't have great team sports.
It's kind of weird China has such good weightlifters. Do they also have great powerlifters? Maybe there's a body type advantage (compared to say long and lean ethiopian runners?), which scales extremely well to large populations.
Also how come their women's gymnastics isn't as dominant?

to have a very competitive team in a collective sport such as soccer or basketball you need either a competitive national championship or a huge presence in the bet championships + getting all the coaches and co is really hard for your own championship when you start from scratch. some might argue that tactics are way harder to get than technique, i'm personnaly not following this one.

Their success didn't happen overnight though. even if they seemed like they came out of nowhere to dominate. Give them time and they can catch up to those sports too since its caught on fairly recently.
Basketball I can see eventually, I'm not sure if soccer has enough support even today. Chinese don't really seem interested in it yet imo. Perhaps yao ming of soccer can turn that around.

I think as far as womens gymnastics goes its not that the chinese arent as good (although this year they certainly dropped quite a bit) its more that the rest ofthe world has more interest and infrastructure in womens gymnastics espescially the us. Lately male gymnastics has fallen off quite a bit in the us tbh.
