Yeah, medal counts aren't exactly the be all end all.

Still, congrats to Phelps on becoming the most decorated Olympian to date.

It isn't, still this guy has been winning medals at 3 Olympics now.

It wasnt just Lochte though, the depth on the team was insane for the 200. Alot of the other sprinters covered at times in the first 100 but would dwindle. Great race from the US.

If you saw phelps in 08 it's pretty hard to argue. He broke just about every world record at that one event.

So are the medal standings as expected or has there been some upsets? I haven't really followed the build up to these Olympics that much.

Pretty much as expected on the general overview I think

China first, America second.

Then France a way back in third.

A bit of a surprise that North Korea are in fourth currently but that probably won't last much longer since I don't think they're expected to do anything more really?

I know that France is doing pretty good compared to '08.

Our judoka's are doing pretty bad. We've had several pretty good ones flunk out.

well in the history of olympisme france is actually at the 5th place so we're not that bad but yes third specially instead of 5th-6th is a bit an upset(btw it's only the beginning)

The last three Olympics we've come 5th, 4th and 4th, and that success has always been partially fueled by swimming, so the fact that we are failing so far this time isn't promising for our medal haul at these Olympics!

China is stronger at some of the earlier events imo so it's no surprise they are leading in golds atm. The USA will probably try to make up the ground in track and field where they usually do very well and China isn't really known as that strong competitor compared to their other events

I just find it odd that china can do so well in some of these competitions yet trail by quite a margin in their most popular sports like soccer and basketball.
