In pro Magic: the Gathering prize splitting is perfectly normal. Traditionally though you leave a little something left over for the cameras in major events. Like play for 1/10th of the money and split the rest, or even split the money and just play for a trophy.

You NEVER turn the pro scene into a joke like this.
Only the weak link is strong enough to break the chain.

Given MLG's past responses to obvious splitting, I'll be curious to see if they come down hard on dig/crs.

What if they don't split haha. It's like 8k more for 1st place? That's 1.6k for each player + tax and sponsor fees and whatever else they have to pay. I don't think it's THAT big of a deal for them I don't know.

What.... it's obviously a split, you think they'd troll instead of playing serious when there's an easy 1.6k?

Well considering they could get banned from MLG for splitting that's why I'm saying maybe it isn't a split. They aren't that stupid I'd hope.

Guys it's a video game. I know on this site we want esports to be like real sports but it just won't happen. People play video games to have fun. They're obviously enjoying themselves, just let them be. It's like FBH troll dancing on stage. It's not professional but it's really fucking funny.

I guess you might be right, Shake, though I don't see how troll dancing has anything to do with it...I mean...post-TD dancing from football players?

These people practice and play the game for a living. It is the definition of "professional".

Allowing this is incredibly "unprofessional".

I guess part of the issue here is Riot's 'Circuit Points' model since neither team cares about the results of this particular tourney, but it really shows the immaturity of the LoL e-sports scene in general. Do any of the other major sports or e-sports get away with this type of thing, or hell, even attempt it?

Naniwa says hi.

How is this even remotely close to what Naniwa did, this is the finals?

In both situations someone really didnt want to play the game since it had no influence on outcomes of the respective tournaments and things beyond so they dont try. IMO what naniwa did was worse since he didnt even try to have fun with it while dig and crs are smiling and laughing about it.

this.

also these teams obviously have spoken to riot or mlg or SOMEONE, they're not risking their careers as professional gamers on something like this.

I guess nothing similar to this has really happened but it's kind of annoying that people are being like "I lost all respect for these teams!." "I hope they get banned forever!"

It is a bit silly though lol.

Probe rush (cheesing) =/= two teams essentially colluding and not giving a fuck about either their viewers or the tourney organizers/Riot.

It's sort of comparable to the two GSL players that got banned for a short time after they decided to match fix. (was that CoCa?)

Yeah, was thinking this. Is it Curse and Dig's fault that the structure is such that the result of this game is inconsequential? Nope. So it comes down to if they should value the current tourney more than the season 2 finals...

Would it hurt either teams chances at pax or s2 significantly if they played balls to the wall all out in this game? Iunno.

Naniwa was not cheesing. Read the history. He never microed his probes. He threw the game because it meant nothing to him. That was the entire controversy. The only difference here is that its both sides and not just one not playing seriously.
I hope Plexa's sig is right.

Are you serious?Naniwa threw a game that should have never happened in the first place in GROUP play.
This is the finals for a decent sum of money. If you think this is even comparable to what naniwa did your pretty fucking dumb.
"And Naniwas was worse because he didn't try to have fun",WHAT LOL?
I bet savior had fun throwing his games so his shit was less troublesome than this according to your logic.
