Won't respond to the criticism regarding the groupstage/iG as I have posted about that already. We will be looking into different kinds of groupstage-modes to prevent these kinds of three-way-ties.

I will however comment on the rulebook issue and the "admins favouring CLG" complaint:

a) The rulebook is being send to each player of each team before the event and we have at least one copy to look things up at the event with us. IG actually asked about the tiebreaker rule before the third game in their groupstage but appearently missunderstood it. Xpecial saying that he never saw the rules for gamescom means that he gave us a wrong email as I sent it to him and his team. Chaox even replied to that email...

b) The LoL teams are seated in our player's area which is quite crowded (you can see that on stream). Any team that finished their match is asked to leave the area so things don't get too crowded. They can still see the games on flatscreens around the area or on the mainstage which is quite close.
In that particular case that I believe people are bringing up CLG simply set up for their semi final match and got to look at the WE vs. Ehome match from their seats. Ehome and WE on the other hand hat to leave the area after their match (as described before).

Really? Good to know as I was about ready to head out for dinner, guess I'll stick around.

You should just go, it will probably be delayed an hour like all the rest.

Ah, fantastic, so you did send the rulebooks to the players. I thought that was pretty standard but the iG scenario confused me because they obviously didn't know a pretty fundamental rule, i.e. how a tiebreak would be resolved. I trust what you've said is true and I don't think ESL is to blame for any of the drama that arose yesterday.

/humble myself

Sorry for jumping to conclusions, will remember not to take Xpecial at his word in the future.

But yes, definitely consider doing other formats for group stages at future events. That would be awesome.

The 3rd place match for League of Legends between SK Gaming and eHome will be played earlier on Thursday, at 10:00 CST. This was decided to ensure that the whole tournament day will be on time as possible for the fans, viewers and players.
Due to the closing time of the Ani-Com & Games at 17:00 local time and the possible length of League of Legend matches we want to make sure that we can finish Thursday with its deciding matches in Counter-Strike and League of Legends on time.

The final between CLG and World Elite remains scheduled for 14:10 CST. Make sure you tune in to the live coverage of the day with Joe Miller and ZenontheStoic on ESL TV.

Rooting for WE! I don't really like CLG as a team even though I like most of them as individual players. Probably just bias against HotShotGG. Or maybe it's because I want a Chinese team to win!

... GO WE!

That confuses me further. Is there a European time zone that is called CST?

China standard time obviously ^_^

To clarify further what Shawn was saying: you can EASILY see the full screens of all teams from outside the area. There was never anything secret there. Also, the rules not only lay down the tiebreaker rules very clearly, they also rephrase in the clearest language possible: you should strive for "short wins and long losses". All teams that were possibly affected by a tie-breaker were reminded of this before their matches and indicated that they had understood.

The tie-breaker was super close and as such of course a little random, but game length is BY FAR the best indicator of closeness in a LoL game. This is not a random ESL ruling; this is something we lay down for our own Season 1 Championship, something that the entire eSports group at Riot is totally behind: a win is better the shorter it is, thus a long defense is also worth more than getting steamrolled in 15 minutes.

We're about to get started with the match for third place, and to close this topic let me just say that iG deserved to be here every bit as much as EHOME or SK, but in the end their results were just that little bit worse (I heard one minute 50 seconds?) This is eSports and we can't all be winners.
My modesty is awesome.

Hi Zenon, great work casting so far.

How likely is it that we'll have double elim groups in future events to avoid this kind of scenario?

Meh, I really think a switch to msl style groups would just be the way to go about it. Much more fair, even if its possible that a team might not play everyone else.

I agree with this, The one thing I like about the Double Elim format is that I don't HAVE to sit down and watch all the games just to get a sense of what might happen before we head into Bracket Play. Plus then you don't have half of your Viewer Base up in arms about how irrational your Tiebreakers are.

I agree that a tiebreaker based purely on time is unfair, especially when DCs add randomness to the games.

Still, talking about it now doesn't do anyone any good. As zillions of people have said by now, LOL needs a client with observer mode, lan, a pause feature, and a replay feature. Without these functions the game is squandering its chance to be one of the most successful Esports around (certainly outside of Korea).
