It seems like people talked about it in December last year but I haven't seen it around since, was there any particular reason it popped up and disappeared again so quickly?

Because Flandre was killing bitches in domestic cups, even before Snake's coming to LPL. Since then he evolved to be peeler for fan2fan, so no ad LeBlanc, Fizz and Yasuo. Noone really saw it in EU/NA competitive scene, but guys like YoungBuck played it once and acted like they invented it, it became popular for a week, then died.

Tossing a Mandrake in one of the deeper bushes of the opponent jungle (say, for bot lane, Blue can put it in enemy froggie tribush, Purple can put it in the double golem bush) would be incredibly effective at detecting these types of stealth lane ganks. Sure, it requires a bit of risk or extra map control, but it's completely doable.

Needlessly Large Rod + Aether Wisp + 650g +120 Ability Power +7% Movement Speed UNIQUE Passive: Gain charges upon moving or casting. At 100 charges, the next spell hit expends all charges to deal 100 (+15% AP) bonus magic damage to up to 4 targets on hit. Is it just me or does this sound ridiculously broken?lol

Seems a bit strong, especially for someone with already ridiculous teamfights (looks crazy for someone like Lissandra).

Yeah you're right, that does look better than Deathcap and cheaper.

It's not really a replacement for DFG as far as burst damage goes. Assassin Mages would still rather have a Deathcap. You are trading away 30% extra AP for extra move speed and and the on-spell proc. 100 + 15% AP damage on a single spell. OR 30% AP damage on all of your spells. (That's 120% extra on a four spell combo) It's going to be OP on poke mages (Hello Nidalee) because the break even point for deathcap to be better for a single spell is 666.7 AP. It also provides extra wave clear. While on mage assassins with four damage spells (Hello Leblanc) the break even point for deathcap to be better is only 95.2 AP.

Deathcap is like adding a ratio equal to 30% of your current total ratio. That thing adds 100 + 0.15 to your combo if you rely on that and not spamming spells/poking (eg. in a trade/all-in you only trigger it once). Assuming a 2 AP ratio (most champions with 3 damage spells including ult do that), deathcap is better starting at 334 AP (before counting its passive, obviously). That's about Deathcap + Void Staff + runes/masteries (counting around 50 AP between that and a dring) then another AP component or two. Deathcap is stronger starting at your 3rd item, this one is stronger before. Depends what you want. For champions with high ratio on a single combo (Syndra kill combo, Annie, Malzahar, Anivia, etc.) or long cooldowns (Viktor) it's stronger earlier. For champions with weaker ratios (Malphite) or mainly single-target damage (are there mages like that? Fizz? Kassadin?) then it's better overall damage for longer (not necessarily better on the main target though, see pre-nerf Fizz's ratios). On the other hand it's a NLR item, so you're going to build it on a champion that's going to stack AP anyway, not your Abyssal/Gauntlet Malphite because it doesn't have the defensive stats for these champions. It can also mean you build that item -> void staff -> deathcap if you don't need stuff like Morellonomicon, Zhonya's, etc. and it's not a competition between them. Edit: you shouldn't evaluate it on a "number of casts" basis but rather a "full combo" basis, Ghost. Some champions don't combo but rather continually spam, meaning they'll get the passive more often (and it'll count more than once in a "standard rotation", see Ryze although it's obviously bad on him), and possibly several times in a protracted fight. Meanwhile LB may get it twice if she combos twice in a teamfight, but that's because she's going to do a bunch of running in-between (spell casts give 20 charges atm so if you have 4 spells with similar cooldowns to use like that you should have it for every rotation).

Well, as someone who always hated DFG and felt it was a toxic item, I was happy to see it go. This may not be a strict replacement, but it's kind of filling the same boots, albeit smaller. This one benefits AoE team fights mages way more than DFG did. Ahri will still absolutely want this item (the buffs to her after removing DFG were completely unnecessary, and this will likely send her way over the top again). Assassin mages in general will benefit from the movespeed, although they won't be getting any of the CDR and way less single target burst that DFG provided. This will be a pretty damn good item for most mid champs except for those that are strictly single target. @Alaric - Annie will absolutely love this item, are you kidding?

I'm thinking of its use as AP version of shiv, e.g. I could see how this would work with a bruiser-ish leblanc top playstyle: You can proc it off q to safely get in good harrass without relying on spending W for damage early on. If you can get it before the laning phase is over (i.e. first item), Annie seems like the *perfect* user. Spammable Q means you can charge it very quickly for free (mana reset on minion kill), then use the proc to harrass the enemy until he's low enough to safely all-in. Doesn't have the reliable raw damage of a death-cap all in, perhaps, but seems much easier to abuse in lane against short/mid-ranged heroes (i.e. not xerath).

Idk where to begin though or say on what I might need to improve at the most... What are just things that I should be looking out for at this level to transcend it?
