He's a good player that doesn't understand how to win with a team. "We don't need a coach, we need the team to click." - Right, and one of the main priorities of a coach is to manage the team's players and personalities. Guide players into successful roles and help them accept their place on the team. You don't just spam scrims and hash it out with your teammates after the game. It's not 100% impossible for it to work, but generally one of two things will happen. Teammates are going to either clash, or passively accept things that they don't agree with in the interest of keeping the peace. Neither of those are acceptable outcomes for a team that wants to succeed. The role of the coach is to be the objective voice of reason. The coach is the guy that's allowed to call out a player's mistakes so his teammates don't have to. Ya, an ego gets bruised, but then your teammates are there to support you. Coach's help to deflect the negative feelings from being called out. They become the target of the player's ill feelings rather than the player's teammates. Without a coach, who tells the truth? Shiphtur? Let him tell a teammate they played a shit game and watch what happens. Ever give advice to one of your teammates in SoloQ? How well did that go? How did you feel after you lost that game you could have won if that idiot hadn't fed/afk'd? And without a coach, who gets to keep Shiphtur honest? So his teammates go 1/4, 1/2, 0/6 in a game and he's 12/0 and they lose. Without a coach, Shiphtur gets to make claims like "See? I'm doing so well and you're all letting me down!" You think he's going to listen to his "shit" teammates when they point out all the ways he failed to help the team win? Hell no. That's what the coach is there for. To say "Hold on a minute, look at all these moments you abandoned your team to preserve your precious KDA, you need to smarten up and help your team." Anyway, this post is already way longer than I had intended when I clicked reply. And I'm not trying to imply they should just pick some bum off the street to be a figure head. Yes, you need someone that understands the game, communicates well, and has the confidence to make hard decisions (Hey, kinda like Scarra last season when they were doing really well), but man that little Twitch-cap set alarms off in my head.

Makes me wonder who Dig has lined up to replace him. Never hurts to see new faces get a chance at LCS experience, even if it's with a team that won't necessarily perform the best!

At least CoreJJ seems like he can speak a bit of english, but iirc their top laner can't really speak english beyond a very basic level. What was Odee thinking? Maybe he had a plan, but you need the infrastructure to backup making a multilingual team. If you don't have a coach or translator lined up it would have been much smarter to just grab a challenger ADC like Keith or Stixxay and then someone like Rhux for the top lane.

My opinion and Odee's on the issue are a little bit different, but we both agree that if we can actually find a competent head coach, we will recruit one. E-sports is a pretty closed industry, and I believed that by tapping all the resources I knew I could find someone competent and I would be on stage at maximum for a week. This didn't happen though and, combined with the issues, I made the call to post it publically. I put a lot of weight on this and said that this has to happen. Odee and I go back and forth on whether a head coach is necessary - but what's VERY necessary for Dignitas is a unified voice that puts the team moving in one direction. I cannot be that voice because of my lack of game knowledge, and while I can help individual players be successful - that doesn't create a great team, a team needs to synergize together. I am also not at all interested in a career or position as a head coach, my fascination is in what makes peak performers effective, and I already have a successful career outside of this industry teaching that. I'm just not set up for it long term. So nothing really changed between yesterday and today, we made the decision to make an announcement a few days ago but internally we've been looking for a coach that meets our requirements pretty hard. Hope this helps clarify everything. Odee also came on Trash Talk, Richard Lewis' phone-in show, to explain the situation but I don't think the VoDs are out yet.
