Before they changed the cost on upgrading smite, I probably would have argued he has potential to be a top tier Jungler. Right now though his first clear just hurts to much. Can't he, like everybody else, just take crab for the extra gold needed? He doesn't even need to start krug side because rupture fucks crabs armor. Sure he can, but I still think that is dangerous as fuck. "Hey lets wander across the potentially warded river at 35% to 40% HP and spend 30 seconds killing a crab." o.o To me that seems like very minimal risk to ward that area same time every game. Free first blood basically.. if other team shows up where do you run to?
You use your second smite on crab, it dies basically instantly.

Ah, fair enough.
I think ChoGath could be a good jungler. Kind of depends on who he is ganking I suppose.

Yes.

Kalista doesn't actually have to dash after an auto. Most players just do it out of habit.

It's like Vayne tumble. You do it a lot because it feels satisfying, not necessarily because you need to.

Chauster is a geniusssssssss. He was really seeing 2-3 years ahead with his understanding of game. Context? What did Chauster do with purple side 3 years ago? The reason they gave was that all their strats were for Blue side only. They still beat SK though so there's that.
I think a major factor that people underplay when they attack the "rose tinted goggles" is that there were significantly fewer champions at that time plus for most roles aside from midlane there were more champions being played at any one time. This means that there was a much higher chance of you seeing one of your favorite champs being played and also seeing that champ win.
I feel like, at that time, it was fairly hard to have no champion overlap with pros so long as you weren't a Poppy-only or something like that player.

The Letmelose post should have been in a separate topic.

People seem to like to bend to the meta rather than play their comfort picks. Eg Gnarvan seeming pretty popular this week and Kalista after her bugs were fixed. It's not like a team has a comp they're going to try playing and can't run Gnarvan or Kalista no matter what.

Some of the more popular meta picks (Gnarvin, Kalista + any good engage support) are more likely to work in pro play and not solo Q, but some of the champions we see banned out are ones that can carry easier/better in solo Q than pro play.
I can only comment on how I see champion pools, and it certainly helps to be able to play the meta fotm champs, but you certainly should have one or two comfort picks no matter what role you are, and some pros don't have them (I've yet to see Hai on a champ I could say is one he's comfortable with) and it can hurt the team sometimes.

Thats actually what I was trying to say. For instance, one of my friends is basically an Amumu/Skarner/Udyr/Shyvana player. Not only wouldn't he have seen a jungler play one of his champions in probably a year, he hasn't seen anything like those guys in the jungle in that time.
I think Jungle is the most extreme example, my brother plays support and loves Braum/Thresh so he sees his favorites decently often. So, that is why I think attacks of "rose tinted glasses" are mostly unfounded. There were as many or more pro pick worthy champions with a champion pool of 20 or so fewer.

Pretty much everyone with regards to Thorin.

There should be an item that provides just attack speed and defensive stats. I'd like that on volibur :3

Then again it'd probably become an ADC item and consequently nerfed out of existence.

Also, Wits before they swapped the stacking MR proc for stacking MR reduction.
