Plus there will be either a lot of stuff that won't get posted here because it'll feel not relevant enough or we'll have a lot of 0-2 post threads. Honestly, lately Pro Evo wasn't just news, it was discussion as well. If we just keep the news there it would be great though, and not too flooded. Isn't discussion what this thread is for? I was thinking about creating some sort of free agency/rumors discussion thread but it could also be a pro scene discussion thread. The old thread's name was kind of archaic anyway, it had evolved beyond just being a chronically of players moving from team to team. I'd argue a chronically of players moving (and Nick Allen fines) would be a rather useful thread to have, especially when we have a whole new forum to fill up with more in-depth discussion

Well I thought this thread was more about gameplay while the other one focused on tournament rulings, roster changes and rumours. Guess we could have a thread for "not very important news" and post important stuff as separate threads :p ?
But yeah overall I just really liked Pro Evo thread, it served multiple purposes.

It was never intended to be discussion though.
I closed it because we want to have every news/announcement separate so that we are able to make a "community news" out of it. Similar to Teamliquid.net

I still think there needs to be some sort of dedicated thread to discussing teams we think are strong/weak, how they performed during a certain week, what they could do to improve. Currently this is the only thread that makes sense for this and a lot of people don't really care about the pro scene so it's nice to post in a place where people actively seek out discussion around the pro scene.

I used pro scene evo as a one stop shop for news as well, but if the new site is going to consolidate that information in one place it will serve the same purpose.

Similar to Teamliquid.net I very much support this, but maybe making a stickied closed thread where you just update the post with news headlines + source for every Community News that is posted would work pretty well imo. And besides that, who says we can't improve on what the other sites do?

I don't mind the removal and giving them all threads now that we're on our own site. It just kinda sucks since no one but me and two/three other people on TL care about SEA or the middle/lower tiers of the challenger scene so it was nice to have an obscure thread to post and discuss news about those places.
|
Well can't say I'm happy about that decision but guess there's not much to be done about it. But I understand correctly that we're going to get a subforum for news sometime in the future? Maybe we'll just start a rumour/small news thread once that happens :p ?

Maybe some sort of "Region discussion threads" could work? Or at least a SEA region thread?

Yeah maybe I'll start a thread to consolidate SEA for those interested in it

We will probably be opening up a non-news pro scene discussion thread if you want to talk about generic things that aren't event - driven.
Call it the "I Grew Up With BW Proleague and LCS Sucks QQ Therapy Thread"

I mean, the reason that Pro Scene Evo existed was because it sort of became a "not GD-kosher" discussion topic given how much it would clutter the thread. In the old subforum format, it would clutter the subforum too much to have individual announcements/discussion in the General subforum, but given how everything's getting split out on the new site, it's perfectly fine to have announcements like that in General as individual threads.

Sucks a lot that my by far most favorite thread has been closed. (Pro scene evolution)
I think it had like 90% of my posts if we dont count the LR threads.

I still think that a thread to keep track of all the posted threads, so to say, would be useful because there is a pretty good chance that once in a while you will miss one. Also if for some reason you don't have internet for a while, finding what happened in the meantime can be a real pain. That's why I think it would be useful in conjunction with Community News.

It makes sense but it doesn't foster the same sort of discussion. There was a lot of good discussion in that thread and now it's randomly splintered into individual post, no place for a long string of conversation.

I think for sc2 there were these "this week/month/etc in starcraft" threads which summed up all important newslinks. If anyone wants to do something similiar it would be really cool, but it's a lot of work.

To be fair if only the people who used the thread the most are complaining then maybe we're used to it and sceptic about change.
Just kidding give proevo back.

So. Who is going to be doing the TL-Lol podcast/talk show? Thats the new thing right?

Similar to Teamliquid.net What about smaller news stories though, won't they quickly get buried within a few hours by ongoing (and now incredibly separated) discussions between 2-3 people in the individual news threads?
The old thread let longer slower discussions all stay in one thread and not clog up the forum. For a news subforum, you'd think you want topics sorted by date added, rather then last thread commented on. Otherwise you could have very old news trumping newer stuff, just because there are 2-3 people having an argument/discussion vaguely relevant to that news in it's comment section.
Also how will ongoing developments work? Will old threads get title updates/op updates if there's new information (which would make comments on the new development hard to find, since they'll start halfway through the thread), or will there be multiple threads on pretty similar topics, some just newer then others (which would split up discussion really badly.)
Just curious as to the specific implementation of the idea as we don't seem to have a dedicated "news" section like the main tl site does.
