As much as I respect Xpecial's play for TSM, I feel like he isn't incredibly consistent lately. He's definitely shown that he can compete at a world level when he's on point though. Hai and Meteos have great synergy, and it makes Hai look better than he is. I think Hai is close to being world caliber. Not quite. Hai also gets a lot more respect in NA than I feel he will get at worlds. Korea seems really confident from their interviews when it comes to foreign competition, I don't think they care all that much about the record C9 has left in NA. They're aware of the record, but they don't think of it as a sign that C9 comes in as a favored team. Personally I think SKT T1's style will run all over them. C9 plays very similarly to KT B except KT B's players are better at laning and Meteos doesn't give much attention to his lanes. I think Meteos not giving much attention to his laners is a bit simple of a way to put it, personally. A lot of this was explained in a video that was posted recently, and it said a lot of what I was thinking when he said that Meteos affects lanes in waves. He ganks mid a good amount and then lets Hai snowball the other lanes, like dominoes. Also, one point that the video brought up that was big was that Meteos always hits very quickly with his ganks. He doesn't wait too long, he just does his job and gets out, and goes back to farming to get ahead in cs. His much clearer picture of where and how he's going to gank is a big factor in his larger farm, so I think not giving much attention to his laners is a bit of an illusion. He also has two weeks to alter his playstyle.
|
If you watched Kakao's style it was very similar. He farmed a lot more than he ganked, but every time he tried it was already too late. Kakao would have a lot more CS than Bengi but Bengi was just pressuring lanes much more often. Not just that but Bengi was very aggressive in the jungle and counterjungled a lot to disrupt Kakao. Perfect example of this is game 2 where they warded Kakao's red and just wasted his time there making him unable to take it. Pair this with EVERY single lane winning for SKT T1 and you've got yourself a situation where the jungler isn't really able to help any lane that much if they have good vision which SKT did.
Then there's the fact that C9 was apparently LOSING scrims to TSM when they didn't ban vladimir. I mean, sure, they can ban it but I don't think it's a good sign of losing to an inferior team just due to 1 pick which isn't even a champion that's inherently overpowered.

I'm really interested to see how Najin sword does at worlds. I think they can go far just through pure mechanics. Expession and Pray/Cain are extremely solid and may just grab an advantage in laning phase and push it to victory. Win lane win game!

So you're anticipating Thresh/Blitz/Naut support games from Cain?

It's not just the style that C9 will lose to. SKT is just far too good, especially Faker. Barring some extreme jungle pressure, Faker has proven himself to be able to consistently beat other S/high A class mids, and dumpster any mid below that level. Also SKT has one of the strongest duo lanes in the world. It's going to be really, really hard for C9 to recover from 2 lanes that are losing.

I heavily doubt with C9's game knowledge that they'd be foolish enough to lane 2v2 lanes, I'm almost positive they'd get 1v2 lanes and just do some heavy pushing early on, and allow Meteos to try his best to get his bot lane on a good start. By that time if Hai is already in deep shit with Faker it'd be tough to come back, but the first 6-8 minutes of the game will be pretty important as if C9 can keep it even then they have at least the possibility of swinging a game in their favor.
A lot of ifs and maybes though, the likely scenario is an NA team doesn't win a single match at worlds.

Like, even though T1 came back in their OGN finals performance LLWWW, I really don't see how you'd call KT B's performance choking.

Hold me to this:
NA will not win worlds.
Do you REALLY believe in 'murica?

I love how people try to defend NA by saying that it's possible that Koreans are simply worse at coming from behind and give up easily.
Like holy shit, how could you ever say that after watching EITHER region's games? Spellsy makes a comment later on saying "i did a similar analysis like this back for week 1 superweek NA, and they had a 40% win rate after getting first drag lol" That's called not knowing how to press your advantages. NA has stepped up their game though since week 1, but I consider everyone but C9 a wash.

Hey, I was playing with boes and he said he started lagging after receiving a font size 100'd message in game (html seems to work to whispers in game), and I just messaged a friend in game with size 100 font, and he said he started lagging immediately after. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or it's actually caused by the messages, but I recommend against messaging your friends that are in game with html tags.

For world's, I think we'll see 40-45 unique picks, out of the list below. I'll probably miss a couple of picks, but that's to be expected. Not quite as diverse as TI3, but I guess that's to be expected.

The lack of donger on that list rustles my jimmies.

Fine I'll make a longshot section, for possible, but unlikely picks.

And this is why I do nothing on r/lol except read headlines. I think you lose brain cells every time you scroll through the comments section because there's a large, vocal, unskilled population.
