That's great and all, but just out of curiosity what is more money going to do for Curse? They already have a great teamhouse, and seem pretty secure financially as well.
This is more of an open question than criticism btw :D

Why Nissan why? I mean I love Curse and all; but holy shit after this 0-3 week; they do not deserve a tier-s sponsor.

At least now Curse can actually afford to pay for the alcohol expenses. hue.

Curse is a gigantic general web/gaming brand, Nissan didn't do this for Team Curse in LCS, they did it so they can get their brand on a ton of high traffic gaming sites.

wow shame on you guys! (forgiven though, ghandi, for at least saying it's just a question) first of all, don't misconstrue what sponsors are for - they're not paying players for wins. a partnership with curse is a way for nissan to reach a gaming audience. did you click that reddit thread? did you then click on liquid's tweet? did you then click on his stream? did you see the link at the top of his stream and did you follow that to the nissan promotional event thing? a small % of you did (or will). and a small % of the people that do all that will then buy a nissan or donate $1000 to charity or w/e it was. that's what's known as a conversion rate. companies will want to get involved in esports because we as fans have an extreme loyalty to our teams and will often follow or buy things that they suggest to us, which is awesome for having a high conversion rate. the more outreach a team has, the more potential buyers/subscribers/whatever can be reached as well. and have you looked at curse's outreach lately?
edward has 40k twitter followers liquid had 16k saint has 85k voyboy has NINETY-THREE-THOUSAND FOLLOWERS this doesn't even consider their twitch subs, facebook fans, etc etc.
that's like, insanely high. and every time they tweet "come check out my jungleology guide sponsored by full sail!" that's free advertising pumped right into your eyeballs... and you REQUESTED that ad by following them.
and what's more, this deal has been in the works since before this split, i assure you. possibly since before the first split. it's not like nissan was waiting for curse to break .500 or it all hinged on a single week's games LOL
and about the "more money for curse big deal" question, you just have to realize that what's good for Crs is good for CLG is good for Velocity is good for TBD is good for whatever team tries to make LCS through ranked 5s next split. this just adds another weapon to all of our arsenal when we approach potential sponsors: "nissan sponsors one of our competitors, team curse" has a LOT of weight behind it. why is nissan in esports? is it profitable? is it easy? is it a new trend? it makes potential sponsors ask themselves these questions, and the more time they spend looking at the stats and understanding the growth of esports, the better. so no matter who you root for you should be extremely happy about this announcement! nissan is doing great things for esports
the only time the success of one team is not a success for all teams is when one team has to cannibalize another or directly hurts another team to get their own progress. if you ever have a situation where one team offers to "help" another team with sponsorships but wants a large cut of their own (maybe they've maxed out on sponsor slots), or if you see one team promoting their team in a way that squashes another team, THAT'S when it's a bad thing. but i've not really seen that in league too much, so that's good

I don't think anyone disagrees with that; and yes I was aware how established Curse is. But, really, does it not irk anyone that Curse been on a downward spiral and they get awarded a fatty paycheck?

does everyone on curse get a free nissan leaf or something

it's awesome that esports is getting mainstream enough that huge sponsors like nissan are getting into it. this is a good thing for esports in general~

We don't know how much Curse is getting paid. Just because they have a big sponsor does not necessarily mean they get a large sponsorship award. More big companies should tackle advertising through Esports while it's cheap.

I bet the players would take a spot in Season 4 over some extra cash. Also I don't really have a problem separating the players performances from the brand presence they provide, but then again I'm majoring in advertising so that's sorta what I do.

Maybe the people who manage curse are more proactive at finding sponsors than say the more popular CLG or TSM managers.

The organization as a whole benefits, but given we have no idea the contractual agreements behind the scenes (at least, I don't), there's no reason to assume the players will get a raise, so to speak. At least, not significantly.
