There is no reason to build damage on Skarner past the secondary effects of good defensive items (CDR on Locket, Shurelya's). You would have really, really hard time justifying even Wit's End.

idk wit's pretty easy to justify especially with negatron items being complete ass now, mr + aspd for passive.
the problem with muramune aside from the fact that Skarner does not need damage is with the toggle on it consumes mana, if you are on a target you will get a lot more use out of Q spam and W on cd than running out of mana doing extra auto attack damage.

There are more good Mres item's now than before.
Before it was Aegis
Now it's Aegis (+Aegis upgrade) and Mikael's Crucible (40 Mres is a lot).

Not only was it pretty damn borderline before pre-season patch, but it got nerfed this patch (costs 50 more gold, provides 10 less (!!) Magic Resistance), but with the presence of Mikael's Crucible that works both as a mana-source, Mres and generally awesome item, there is really no circumstance when you'd want to get it.

runic bulwark gives a lot of MR, and all of its components are cheap, and it has loads of other good tank stats
like it's better than old FoN, I'm pretty sure, due to the health (and armor) on it
