You basically start with the 10 free week heroes currently on rotation, and build up from that. If you want to get something powerful, consider Alistar, Ryze, Ashe, Corki, Jarvan IV, Sion, Singed, and Malzahar among others imoimoimo (prices vary). The best way to learn is just to dive in, but you can read up on the champs if you really want, as there really are no straight dota ports. e: And yes, no deny. I would just buy HoN then You get IP (game money, aka Influence points) by playing the game, so as you play you unlock more content in form of runes, masteries and champions. Skins are reserved for real money though  | ||

Gives you a champ you know you like who you can always play while leveling up. | ||
