The short of it is that you're helping Riot by using your internet connection to send parts of the update that you already have to other users that still need it. When used well (such as with a properly configured BitTorrent client) everyone gets updates faster than they would otherwise (at the same cost to Riot). Implemented poorly (like in this case) you can actually slow down. A large portion of MMORPGs use similar systems but they're almost never implemented in a useful way. | ||
